Looking for books that go into the topic of grandparents and parents blowing their money on cars, houses, boats and golfing and whatever instead of supporting their children financially, emotionally and morally etc.Is this simply a modern day problem? Did this occur in most white nations prior to WW2 or WW1 ? In the 1800s? What about even further back? Its like most do not care to teach their children how to suceed, or to even help chip in on their car or rent etc.I suppose there are all the kids that get cars and have college paid for, so maybe im just too poor and surrounded by poor idiots to notice that some grandparents and parents are actually somewhat caring and intelligent?
Boomers don't hate their children and you need to stop falling for propaganda that is designed to make you hate your own racial kinsmenThey grew up in a time where it was really easy to ascend to middle class (and beyond), so they've incorrectly assumed that it would be just as easy for their childrenIt's no more complex than that
>>25614736Tacking "looking for books on" to your pol trollpost doesnt make it lit, discord troon.
Sorry but the boomers are not going to save your from your future of sharing a 2 bedroom apartment with 3 other broccoli heads little zoom zoom. You're on your own.
The notion of immolating yourself for your children being the only moral and therefore obvious choice is pretty much boomer brain shit born in American post-WW2 abundance. For most of history your kids were a source of petty labor until they became old enough to function as your retirement plan, and were expected to conform blindly to whatever inane self-serving justifications for the desired situation that the parents had themselves inherited to press along You feeling like your parents didn't love you enough is a feeling a lot of people have and had. Your notion that this is unusual or piteous is what's new and goofy. People have always sacrificed for their kids, don't get me wrong, but their motivations for doing so are more often self serving or even villainous than they are altruistic. Some day you might have kids and at some point you'll have a discussion with your partner about whether or not the boys will make a disgusting mess jacking off if you don't say something about it. Parenting is a lot more about practicalities than principle once you're actually stuck doing it.
>>25614768>>25614751Snivelling cowards, if you aren't trying to plant trees in this life so that others can enjoy their shade you have failed as a decent human being.
>>25614785Sounds like a personal problem.
>>25614785The trees are my nine children that I will try to coerce into wiping my shitty ass and feeding me and cleaning up puddles of piss from under the chair they keep me in when I am old enough to start getting away with it, as it has always been.
OP hereI will also include this question>Why do so many humans only care about their personal gains and life and do very little to support the community or or help those in needHave any psychologists or philosophers spoken about these topics ?>>25614752Ad hominem>>25614751>assumed it would be easyYes so is this an intelligence issue ? How do they fail to check their assumptions for reality is what I am wondering, and wondering if there are some decent explanations written into books or essays etc

>>25614880It's a much better post than my post, I will give up posting forever, no one will miss my posts.
>>25614736I will address your post as if it is made in good faith, but most of your answer lies here>>25614751Boomers lived through the most complicated changes in all of recorded human history, and were raised by a generation that survived the second most complicated series of changes in human history bookended by TWO armed conflicts of apocalyptic proportion. The period between those two armed conflicts was populated by one of the worst epidemics in modern history (Spanish Flu), and a phenomenon that the world had literally never seen before and no precedent, a complete global stock market collapse. The second and more serious sociologically of the conflicts was brought to an end partially by eldritch science manufacturing a weapon capable of destruction on a level previously thought only to belong to God himselfThe closest thing you get in function is something like the Tulip Crash in the Netherlands which is neither comparable in scale or relevant in the resultant expansion of government that the world decided was the solution to the fact that 20-30% of all men were unemployed on average in all developed nations. 1 in 7 men in Germany alone were disable as a result of the first World War, and everyone was playing Debt Collector's Chicken with the war loans and government bonds. The insurmountable bullshit the average person would have had to deal with and the immediacy with which their agency declined can't be understated, the world went dark for the entire first half of the 20th century.Relatively speaking, the boomers were young when shit was that terrible, but the ramifications on the people who raised them meant that many of them were regularly beaten because the world they were born into was devouring individuality in anything not plated in 80mm of hardened steel plating and shitting out misery on an industrial levelPsychology as a true field of academics and not an eccentric cocaine addicted gentleman's hobby is only about as old as the Boomers themselves, so we're quite lucky they're not a bunch of cannibal tribal warlords to be quite candid about it
Day of the pillow soon
>>25614929>historically illiterate retard accidently betrays the narrowness of his historical perspectiveWhat a retarded post.
>>25614929Boomers in America had parents who returned to the only undamaged industrial economy in the world, who could buy a house with a couple years of uneducated factory labor without their wife working because the only factories left were here and every country in the world wanted to buy. All navel gazing about the atomic bomb and CIA psi ops is fine for a comic book, but the incredible ease of making a living, getting an education and having free time and security in your youth was the real overwhelming force of the era. It's where the summer of 68 came from, all the money and leisure and free time, not some psychic revolution. There is no generation in human history with a less complicated, easier course through their lives than the boomers. You talk about the changes during the formative years of their lives as through they were traumatic when almost every one of them was at least anaesthetic, if not outright soothing. You're being ridiculous.
>>25614959>>25614980>Human beings receive access to or invent the following within the last 100 years>The Radio>Flight>Atomic Weaponry>The FDIC>Social Security>Unemployment insurance>The Federal Reserve>Synthetic Rubber>Plastics>Analog Computers>Transistors/micro capacitors>Lasers>Rocketry>Desegregation>The fucking Invention of Nitrogen fertilizer, legitimately quadrupled the global population over the course of their lives>The Internet>AIDS Crisis Yea actually you guys are fucking stupid and there is no point in pretending you are here to have a discussion, having a good job and access to a home doesn't prepare you for the complete reorganization of the global economy headed by five thousand 0.0001% net worth stock market trust fund yuppies snorting more than the last 3 generations of your family's combined gross income up their noses
>>25615255>Lists like 15 life improving, ease increasing changes the boomers benefitted from, and two negatives>Asks us to pity them and understand how hard it was for themThey're also the generation that dealt with the least income inequality between the 1920s and now. We don't really need to have a conversation with you. For some reason you are making our point but standing up for yours. Truly a rare trolling method if that's what you're doing, but, as far as traditional argumentation goes it doesn't make sense. My dad was a big ol centrist and he used to say things like "If you talk about those people that way they'll never come over to your side" which is true. Is that what you're doing? You can't actually say all the stuff you're saying and then pretend like because computers were invented humanity would have gone insane but for the backbone and stoicism of the magically wise boomers.
The Brother's Karamazov is sorta that? The father figure is financially irresponsible and chases women he can't possibly satisfy, and has two sets of offspring from two broken families. What I dont understand is why the silent generation was so dogshit poor relatively speaking. I theorize only the years 1983 to 2006 were good for making money, and unless you were established in your career then you didn't make it.
>>25614980The 60s and 70s weren't that good. They were highly socialized years of stagnant cruising for most of the west. Then ended with stagflation and oil shocks. The true golden age was the run from the 80s to 2006, that was the age of never suffering economically. Boomers hit that sweet spot right in their prime income earning years at middle age, when they are liable to be saving the most. The people that shill the 60s and 70s as easy can't explain why the silent generation died so poor. Even in the Simpsons, a 90s show, the grandpa is in a retirement home out of elder poverty and has no spending money. There was no stereotype of rich elderly people in the 90s.
>>25615421But yeah, actually talk to boomers and you'll find out they basically fucked around as itinerant semi functional alcholics in the 70s in a flat or hippie van. None of them really saved for anything for the first ten years of their working life. Then around 28 to 33 they stumbled into their first house purchase and bizarrely built 70%+ of their equity from that.I think overall young people now are unironically better savers. Boomers of course worked harder, but considering they had a 25 year bull market at their best years, if they're not at least a millionare they're a loser.
>>25615255Social Security is a pyramid scheme, probably not the best example.
Boomers and BBoomers and Gxboomers didn't know their parents because everyone was dead or traumatized (dissociative) from WW1-Depression-WW2-Nuke-Cold WarAll GENx are autistic, it's actually hilarious. Every single one of them have Aspergers. Or amoral alcoholics.
>>25614768>But why again does this extend not only to men but also to animals? Because they too have an instinct of immortality. Even in the same individual there is a perpetual succession as well of the parts of the material body as of the thoughts and desires of the mind; nay, even knowledge comes and goes. There is no sameness of existence, but the new mortality is always taking the place of the old. This is the reason why parents love their children—for the sake of immortality; and this is why men love the immortality of fameNigga you even read? This is a reading board.
>>25615590Neither fame nor progeny reach anywhere near to immortality. Some men are driven by their fear of death to have children, some men are driven to get high off of fame because of the fear. However no animal reproduces because of this, and most men reproduce as animals do which is accidentally, drawn along by a flash of pleasure and out of it being something available to do. The point of the Plato passage you are posting there is not to deliver the truth. It is to show that a dialectician need not be ashamed of his optimism. Part of what he does is performance, and it is nice to give people a story with a happy ending. It isn't even fully dishonest when your performance is superficial enough to let the cracks in the argument show through so clearly, for then you sooth your listeners that cannot think for themselves, but do not insult your own intelligence in front of those of your listeners who know better. That's the literature side of Plato, which philosophers can easily lose sight of. This is a literature board.
Finally someone posterizingly dunked on the soft n word poster
