what literary inspirations and themes does MGSV, or any of the other metal gear solid games, embody in it's writing? Do these games warrant the praise of their writing and worlds? what the fuck was kojima thinking when he made these games?
>>
for mgsv, dogs of war and habermas
for the rest - idk, never cared about them
>>
>>25613782
V is heavy handed with the moby dick references to drive home the basic bitch revenge plot (never finished, shit game)
i remember the tapes in peace walker name dropping perpetual peace (kant). probably hobbes and rousseau as well
>>
>>25613782
idk but guy on the right is HOT, like a manlier Jacques de Bascher (who was very /lit/ btw)
>>
>>25613782
I read Kant for the first time after playing Peace Walker. Perpetual Peace was ok.

I am curious if anyone has read any of the novelizations? I know they arent literature but could be some good popcorn kino

Burroughs. Language as a virus. Directly plagiarized. But there are other burroughsian tropes there as well, the Outer Heaven is basically a pirate utopia and that's a concept Burroughs explores in Cities of the Red Night (extremely hard recommend, the best WSB book in my opinion) and Ghost of Chance (sort of mid short story but meh, decent enough to read in one evening).
>>
How has no-one brought up Tom Clancy?
There was a heavy influence in both metal gear games as well as metal gear solid.

He's written a book on his influences. It's essentially a book of reviews but you'll get a glimpse of what your after.

It's more of a review book. He wrote for 2 different magazines between specific years and it's just a collection of those reviews sandwiched between his take on 'memes' in the introduction and afterword.
This is his 'media list' (index).

Structurally yeah
>charmingly idiosyncratic characters
>stilted dialogue that prioritizes clever period and regional references over decipherability
>heavy reliance on technobabble just familiar enough to reality to sound realistic to a layman
>>25615100
Only by the broad stroke of also being military fiction, the simple fact that metal gear is extremely character-driven makes it far less clancy inspired than something like ace combat
>>
>>25613782
Kojima literally carbon-copied 'Genocidal Organ' from Project Ito. Actually a good novel.

>>25615510
Strange take when a lot of the game plots have tons of similarities to Sum of All Fears

I thought it's themes were alright but too overratted in a sense because basically every person out there says how it "predicted everything"

Gamers will look you in the eye and insist there is nothing performative or ostentatious about this image.
