To just never get over someone. To think about someone just about everyday for 8 years? I feel so pathetic, I try to keep it close to my chest but I feel like everyone I know has heard at least once about my ex wife. So I guess I don’t do a good job of it, but still. Thoughts? It has me feeling mentally diseased.

    >Is it normal?
    yes

    >>45183136
it’s the sign of someone with underlying trauma

Like from the relationship or just in general?

took me even longer and now that I'm alone and got my heart broken again she's back, in my dreams and waking thoughts constantly
    >>
    >>45183233
Same. I dream of her often and wake up thinking about her, hence why I feel mentally sick as a result.

typically from an unfulfilled childhood: abusive parents, endured a traumatic event, not held enough, etc.

I’m armchair psychologist in this: i would assume you’ve developed an attachment in whoever you’re with in order to not feel abandoned or alone. So because you had such a strong connection with your ex, you’re not willing to let it go because it’s familiar and what gave you comfort, when in reality you either need to find the ability to be comfortable by yourself or have the capacity to let them go and focus on the present.

If you’re really ugly and have low social status and can’t meet someone new then yeah it’s actually very normal to obsess over the one person you ever got with and cope by pretending it’s “true love” rather than desperate attachment

yes. im over him now though (10 years later)
