Beyond all the fuckups like leaving gear behind, the mission was not right for the seals to begin with. Fuck their bitching, they should have inserted outside the valley and gotten there on foot. Position multiple units under cover of darkness, etc. Go in loud and hard and call in helo extraction and gtfo. Pretty much perfect for Green Berets, Marine Raiders, or Rangers. They had too few numbers, at least a few squads. Embed some Delta or GB with Rangers Black Hawk Down style if you want a security/'fight the bulk of the forces' team while the GB goes direct for the HVT. IIRC it WAS planned for another unit anyways who also planned on inserting not fucking right over the target. The real tragedy is the QRF that got killed from this. I'd say the biggest issue was going in loud enough that it put the entire place on an alert readiness level that fucked the chances from the getgo unless they got retardedly lucky. Spending extra time on a quieter insertion on foot with a more combat focused group like Raiders or Rangers even just to secure an LZ for SEALS to go in would have been so much better.
