I did some maths.Per DCAS, 4,368,000 served in the Army in Vietnam, and there were 30,963 hostile deaths in the Army.Per the National Archives, ~125,000 served in the Philippine–American War, and per pic related, there were 1,004 hostile deaths. That's 0.7% of those serving Vietnam getting killed to 0.8% of those serving in the Philippines.
>>65623679>through experience soldiers learned to be marginally better fighting against pygmies with horrific gaping maws
>>65623679Boomers are delusional and mostly full of shit about Vietnam because of brainrot from watching TV and Films. Most of them were too young to ever serve in Nam, and their only exposure to it was afterwards through pop culture mainstays like First Blood which created the myth of veterans being spit on (there is literally no reported incidents of this ever happening).2/3 of those sent to Vietnam, and the large majority of those in combat roles were with volunteers, not drafted. Most of those were were drafted during the Vietnam era were sent to Korea, Japan, Thailand, or Germany. For those who were sent to Vietnam, they were overwhelmingly in non-combat roles, and the biggest problem they faced was drug addiction.
>>65623753Baby boomers served in Vietnam, not the boomers you're referring to, which tells me you're the exact boomer you're referring to.
>>65623679But in Vietnam you'd have far more soldiers in non-combat roles. You should find numbers of soldiers in combat roles in both wars and recalculate.
>>65623762cutoff for baby boomers is 1964, which means there's a TON of them too young to have served in Vietnam
>>65623753>Most of them were too young to ever serve in Nam, and their only exposure to it was afterwards through pop culture mainstays like First Blood which created the myth of veterans being spit on (there is literally no reported incidents of this ever happening).Virtually all junior enlisted Vietnam vets are from either the very late Silent Generation or very early Baby Boomers (basically men born from 1940 to 1950). Very few Vietnam vets were born after 1950 and virtually none after 1955 except for those who served in the final days such as Marines who evacuated Saigon.
>>65623679>that many murders>that many suicidesWTF was going on with them back then?
>>65624750"Murder or homicide" is just a weird way of saying they were killed by Filipinos in civilian clothing in attacks in rearguard areas.82 suicides isn't too bad given they were in a disease ridden tropical shithole with awful terrain in an era before modern medicine and fighting an off-and-on counter-insurgency with no air support.
>>65623679Over time more of the army has become support roles rather than combat roles, so for Vietnam only 15% or so of our personnel were actually combat troops.
