Anons, I need some solid advice. So I’ve got an AR. I’ve also got a 7.62 AK parts kit. I’ve never really been a fan of my AR. I mean it’s cool to me. It’s an A4 clamshell with a fixed stock. I like it for what it is, but I’m also not crazy about it.On the other hand, I’ve got the AK parts kit I wanna build. I flip flop between building it and not building it. I still need a lot of parts, and I came close to buying more parts today, but I’m not sure if I should go through with it.If you guys could give me some solid advice, what would you say?I live in the US, so it would make more sense to just live with my AR, but at the same time, I like simple. I’m also not a fan of aftermarket stuff or cleaning my gun aside from oil and a basic wipe down.I mean if I just had a ton of money sure I could build the AK anyway. Or I could just buy ammo for my AR. Please don’t bully me, anon.
>>65622127Goddamn it anon.
>>65622127Why's apu holding a duck
>>65622136he like ducks.>>65622130Don’t blaspheme God, anon.
>>65622173Theoretically that duck should be holding him since he's a frog (small) and ducks are big
>>65622127OK, I'll play along. You will almost certainly enjoy the kit build more than an off the shelf gun because you have more of yourself invested in it. Plus, it's a good time if you have the original barrel. I have a 1984 WASR and a 1986 Bulgarian with 16" barrels and they are great, but I wish they had the original 14" barrels. What parts do you still need?
>>65622249Thank you for responding anon. That’s incredibly kind of you. >You will almost certainly enjoy the kit build more than an off the shelf gun because you have more of yourself invested in it.Yeah, I can see that. Makes sense.Parts I need->barrel>front trunnion>receiver>rivets (not all are there)In terms of tools (assuming I go with a 100% receiver)I have a jack stand but I still need>jack>bolt cutters>rivet jaws>go gauge (I have a no go)And of course something to press I. The barrel with. From what I’ve found, I can do that with the press, or either a barrel press tool. Pic rel.
>>65622249Anon, I just bought bolt cutters.
>>65622249>original 14" barrels???
>>65622291This is so frustrating because I have access to at least half that stuff at work.Make friends with a machinist or mechanic, I guess. What are the bolts cutters for? I haven't studied AK building in years. Anyways, the key to custom gun building, whether you are doing it yourself or having someone else do it, is patience. It's not easy and it's even harder if you don't do it right the first time.
>>65622291That barrel looks fine BTW
>>65622531That’s not my kit. I just posted it to refer to the tool in the picture.>>65622526>What are the bolts cutters for? I haven't studied AK building in years.Crushing rivets. Pic rel.>whether you are doing it yourself or having someone else do it, is patience. It's not easy and it's even harder if you don't do it right the first time.I appreciate that, anon. I kind of figured I could just buy one thing at a time, and eventually I’ll have all the stuff and be motivated enough to do it someday.
Asking for myself >>65622291Considering all the parts I have, does it matter if I get a polish receiver?Like if I got a polish front trunnion, receiver, and rivets, will it all work together with everything else I have?
>>65623942Stay away from Polish parts, many are cast and will not last.
>>65623942I don't tend to pay for getting my stuff polished but if you know a good gunsmith it can be worth it.
>>65623942Also, be aware that "Yougoslavian" patern rifles are different in a lot of ways.
>>65623947>>65623964>>65623997Thanks anons. I appreciate the feedback. On that note should I do a flat of just search for a 100%?I have access to a mig welder, and a press.
>>65624579I've never built an AK, but I imagine that a 100% would significantly simplify your build, especially the trouble shooting.
>>65622127>I’m also not a fan of aftermarket stuff or cleaning my gun aside from oil and a basic wipe down.I haven’t cleaned my AR in thousands of rounds other than just putting some oil on it and wiping it down >but at the same time, I like simple. So you like the AR? The AK is immensely more complex to build than an AR, sheet metal is quite literally an art that has to be learned over decades of tinkering and working with it
>>65623942Polish parts are good as long as they’re from WPB or FB Radom. Don’t buy mystery meat Polish parts because they’re probably Pioneer Arms pipebomb components. >>65624579Get a 100%. Recreator and Childers are both good, Childers does some kind of basic finishing on theirs before they ship them, I’d still finish over it though.
>>65624596>>65624630>Get a 100%Thanks again, anons.
