how do you bait the enemy to walk toward your machinegun/minefield/airdefense range if they care about their life?
Make it approachable, put it in a place that's accessible. People are lazy, they don't want to have to ford rivers and climb over logs to get to a place when there's a perfectly good paved road leading straight there. So that's where your entrenched positions should be. Minefields are area denial, so they should be along treelines that would otherwise allow the flanking or bypassing of your MG nest.
