What is your plan to connect to the internet if power or internet cables get cut? What is the modern equivalent to a ham radio in 1945? Starlink? Cellphone modem with directional antenna? How do you stay in the loop?

    Photo unrelated.

    >>
    >>65615243
It's anything that fucks with electronic sensors and communication, this could be an IR lamp that blinds IR seekers or a jammer blocking radio comms.
If you have ever been driving and heard two different radio stations at the same time on the same frequency that is accidental jamming, deliberate jamming just shits out static instead of music.

Ham radio is still the way to go.
Frequencies operate differently at different times of the day.
NVIS will always be a thing at frequencies 14mhz and under. Which means you can local coms inside a 200 mile circle no problem and foxfinding isnt effective.
Jamming a range of frequencies again, only functions if your near enough given certain conditions. Ft8 cw and ssb are all still functional relatively locally.
Ft8 and cw especially directionally long distance at 10 wats. Vhf uhf for local coms is non issue.
Its not worth worrying about how to communicate. Nerdy hams have had it figured out for ages.
Alternatively theres always LoRa meshtastic shit.

    >>65615243
broadly speaking any military activity against an adversary in the electromagnetic spectrum is EW, including detecting, decrypting, interfering with, spoofing, jamming communications, search efforts, target engagement and so on.

some of the more common actions like using radar to search targets or using encrypted comms aren't generally considered EW despite fitting the definition because they are so commonplace rather than being a specialized task but everything relating to supporting or interfering with those is.

Do they have new digital stuff, like i can connect to some long distance wifi or some kinda low data rate alternate internet? or are you talking about taping out morse code, cuz morse code is dumb.

    >>VHF / UHF, anything else is cope.
just like red dot frequency stuff? I dont find it useful. Better off with an ordinary am radio.

    >>65615557
I'm trying to find out how I can get access to internet sites like bb-c, rt, aljazeera, sabanet, etc to see their perspective/take if someone starts taking out internet lines and jamming/bombing ISPs and what not. I assume the cable internet and cell towers will be the first things taken down. Either by the enemy or our guys. Like, I got three generators and a solar system, i got power when the grid goes down but what about information? I assume all the local radio channels will be saying how great Trump is and we need to bow down seven times a day towards washington or something if were at war.

This meshtastic seems interesting but i'm not sure if i just local stuff, or i can get to some place across the world.

This is the article that got me thinking. I agree with the tin food part but it says they buy radios, but what good are they if it's one directional and most of the broadcasts are propaganda.

Anon you are confusing HAM radio for telegraphs. HAM radio is just regular ass radio, like a CB a trucker or a divorced dad would have.
    >>
    >>65616092
    >Do they have new digital stuff?
Yes, absolutely. There are tons of digital modes on HF and VHF/UHF bands that all have unique functionality and uses and some like FT8 can go global on HF. Packet radio and something like AREDN could be used to make a line of sight packet radio network akin to (but far more limited) to internet as an example, although it would be like a city wide internet rather than world wide.

    >Morse code is dumb.
There is actually a lot of use for morse code even today but I get that. Most radio these days is going to be voice on HF and VHF/UHF, or digital mode radio

Also to sort of clear up the other anon who replied. CB is a different thing than ham radio. Line of sight, limited channels. He probably knew that but kept the reply short.

    >Do tehy actually call it Ho Chi Minh City, or is that just the usual authoritarian propaganda bit of renaming a place for Dear Leader?
The commies split it both ways to keep the peace.
Downtown is officially called Saigon (as a suburb), the city is called HCM City.

It means that if you get pedantic about calling the city Saigon, people think you mean the suburb and get confused, so you give up and call it HCM or find some other way to signal your opposition to Hanoi.

Stop bullshitting, as a Vietnamese person, I can tell you that neither Northerners nor Southerners call it Ho Chi Minh City in everyday conversations or on social media. Even the most hardcore communist nationalists still call it Saigon. You mostly see “HCMC” used in official government media, not even regular media. “Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh” is just fucking awkward and too long to say, and Saigon just sounds cooler and is easier to say anyway
