It's an interesting idea if your goal is to create a fully fleshed-out world but just having magic vs guns isn't actually that interesting on its own. Normal high fantasy already has people killing each other mundanely (bows swords etc) and not just with magic.I think Deadlock is/was going to be a game based on this idea but they sort of just gave up on having any sort of cohesive setting or tone.

As we have discussed MULTIPLE times whenever this thread comes up, the use of small arms tier magiks are a complete waste of time and energy. Why bother using fireball to wipe out an infantry squad when you can fly around casting stupor on entire battle formations? Fuck up any targeted individual you want? Wizards would be busy scrying battle plans and and transfiguring into dogs to go assassinate people. Even buffing your own troops would be a better use.

There are plenty of pretty reasonable ways to do that as well, straightforward elemental magic is basically just normal physical effects with a paranormal cause so it's a bit more grounded than other forms of magic, and you could also imagine that magic just has a pretty short range, with projectiles created by it flying further but wizards unable to directly affect things more than a few yards away, or whatever.

The thinking wizard or witch knows that there's no reason to spend whatever scarce magical resource you need for spells on the equivalent of a bullet or explosive of any kind.The best magic spells provide indirect effects, improve information gathering or stealth and deception, then from a position of advantage, you use the most effective weapon to eliminate the target, better yet if you can use summoned minions to do it for you.
