    advice for dealing with frustration?
used to have a lot of fun trying to clear extra in 6-10. ever since SA extra, i've been finding myself getting more or less pissed off when playing
i've already taken breaks from vidya to focus on work, but my skill and mood doesn't change when i come back to play
    >>
how do you consistently capture Raiko's Death Drum "Land Percuss"? the shaking screen always messes me up, especially when i barely have any room to dodge
    >>
What happened to arena dev? There wasn't an update this weekend.
    >>
    >>51350898
Move to a different Extra or goal, practice in different ways (Thprac).
I've postponed several of the clears I wanted until my overall fundamentals had grown. It's a slow and steady build, but maybe it'll suit you.
    >>
    >>51350898
For me what works it setting a clearly achievable goals for each run, "I'll get past this attack" "I'll have at least 2 extends by the time I get to the boss" etc.
And occasionally I'll just do a run for fun, one where I don't care about making any progress and I'll just play however, I think that's pretty important for not burning yourself out.
    >>
    >>51351108
    >burning yourself out
ah i believe that's the phrase that describes what i'm going through
despite already clearing DDC's extra with ReimuA and B, i'm aiming for a clear with all shottypes, which has been incredibly frustrating since raiko is a shit
i'd like to move on to impossible spell card, but i like the feeling of completion
    >>
    >>51351117
Do you only play one game at a time?
I really do think that is not a good approach, I would've burned myself out a while ago if I did that.
I'd recommend having at least two or three games that you cycle.
    >>
What do you guys play with, keyboard, controller, stick?
    >>
    >>51351211
    Keyboard of course.
    >>
    >>51350901
Can't remember but I think you're supposed to position yourself between the waves close to the previous one before the shaking starts, and once it does keep an eye for the bullets that gets boosted. I'm not sure, never captured this fucking card in a run, only spell practice.
    >>
    >>51351211
I use a wired Xbox 360 controller. I am still playing Double Spoiler and just realized that you need to complete 52 and 58 scenes to unlock Extra and Spoiler, so I have to go back to previous levels to complete scenes. Currently made it to level 8 which has become a big filter.
    >>
    >>51350910
i believe he stopped working on it because he got bullied off of /vg/
    >>
    >>51351402
For clarity, it was just a couple guys (probably from /v/, the thread has been infested with /v/hu fags in the last week) lashing at him and him just leaving even though others were supportive of him. The shitposters were shitty but they just did the usual thing you could expect from this website, it looks like the guy wasn't really fit for this place unfortunately.

    >>51351211
I use a Retro-bit Saturn pro, its dpad is the best one I've tried so far, although I really wish it were matte like the M30's.

I did get shoved around a bit, and a person who was following the project closely did make a prescient point afterwards, which you're also making now: even though I've been on this website since 2009 or something, and should be acclimated to it, I'm just not really built for receiving that sort of... negative feedback, I suppose you could call it, because I get very emotionally attached to my projects. Maybe I abandoned it in haste, the /jp/ threads are far more supportive, but then it makes me think I was just fishing for compliments all along, which gives me pause.

I could keep working on it, but like I said in that post, the goal of the project was just to put you in a PoFV match in the browser within two or three clicks. My way of adding to the game would be developing characters with interesting gimmicks, but the schism is that maybe most people just want balance changes to the original cast instead, nobody really cares about playing as some overpowered new character with a unique scope style or a level 5 spellcard, it just dilutes the original pool of characters.

Anyway, if you were looking forward to the project, I really do apologize and thank you again for the support. It was the kind words from this board that got me to continue it when my courage was wavering early on.

Why not delegate that task to someone else then, if you don't want to do it?
Would you consider making a github repo?
    >>
    >>51351617
    >the goal of the project was just to put you in a PoFV match in the browser within two or three clicks
That's cool and all, but you don't need to reinvent the wheel. Easier netplay for the existing game would be much better received than a lackluster imitation with whatever changes you wanted to make e.g. holding Z to shoot. Years ago someone was working on a matchmaking client for PoFV ala Fightcade. I wonder whatever happened to that?

I don't want to make the repo public, it has a ton of unencrypted folders and well, ZUN's assets and all that. Nothing too bad'll happen but better safe than sorry.

I put the project in Google Drive for anybody interested though, should go under the radar that way:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bMyUAu9qj3ErhO0ew-1beBsIu3xTjVgT/view?usp=sharing

(the .7z file doesn't actually have a password, just hit enter when you open it)

It has all the commit history, the version of Godot I used, Touhou Toolkit and Truth, and some personal memory files which you'll want to modify depending on how you like to develop with the agent. It doesn't include any of the game folders or "data depots" as we called them, which is just the game files decrypted by Truth. The file would be 20+ gigs otherwise. Pic related is all the different games and depots that populated the game at some point or another.

Get it, modify it, tear the parts you don't like out, do whatever you want to it. You don't have to give me credit, it was never mine to begin with.

It doesn't really matter. It's not even their fault for bullying me. Someone put it best on that thread, you need thick skin to be in the business of making videogames, especially with AI on the table. Better to get my rude awakening now than coast along until it gets ten times worse.

    >Years ago someone was working on a matchmaking client for PoFV ala Fightcade. I wonder whatever happened to that?
First time hearing of that, not sure why they couldn't bring that into fruition considering it probably would have been a GUI wrapper for adonis, rather than a new netplay tool from the ground up. I also remember they tried to integrate IaMP into Fightcade, but that plan also fell through because of mere lack of communication.

Speaking of which, someone recently made a new netplay client for PoFV with rollback netcode and public matchmaking. Haven't tried the latter yet, but so far that's looking promising at least.

    >>51350898
I really recommend taking breaks as often as you need, pushing yourself while near burnout will only make things exponentially worse. Last time I tried that in these games I ended up dropping STGs for like 4 years before I had any motivation at all to play again. Granted, I was also pushing myself in a category I didn't really enjoy in the first place, so if you are at least playing a game you enjoy then it shouldn't be that bad.

Having more goals is also good, if you are not enjoying a particular stage then you might as well practice something else in the meanwhile, until you eventually get better and/or have more confidence to tackle your original goal.
    >>
    >>51356680
You could have at least let the game running there, anon, even with no updates it was already pretty fun to play.
    >>
    >>51357062
You can tell me if I'm wrong, but I really want someone else to adopt the project. I still see a future where a hundred people are having fun with the game at the same time. I think leaving the old version up is counter-intuitive to that, nobody's going to want to take ownership of the project while it's there.
    >>
    >>51357119
It's not completely wrong, but it's also not the best way to go around it. The best way would be to keep it for a few more weeks with a banner on it stating that it's going to be removed on day X and that someone should carry the project if they want people to keep playing.
    >>
    >>51356809
    >a new netplay client for PoFV with rollback netcode and public matchmaking
    Where can I procure this?
    >>51357119
Pretty wishful thinking from the same guy who won't make his repo public, jussayin'
    >>
    >>51357286
I'm not sure I follow. I gave away every single file that's on the repo already. You can start your own repo using those files and the result would be an identical copy of it. Is my original repo that important to the process?
    >>
    >>51357307
Yes, you did post the files. In a Google Drive. The link to which is here and presumably nowhere else. You declined to post it to GitHub because
    >I don't want to make the repo public
    >the project (...) should go under the radar that way
You purposefully limited the exposure of your project. Now you want someone to somehow find the project and continue it in your stead. Can't you see how your actions are contrary to what you hope to achieve here?
    >>
    NOBODY CARES FAGGOTS

Love how you put it this way when you've got another anon levelling the same criticism but with some honeyed word and another one browbeating the guy into making the repo public when he has said he didn't want to (due to stolen assets).
You're worse than the /v/tards, at least /v/tards don't pretend to be righteous.
    >>
    >>51357337
Dev was not showing off the project anywhere besides /jp/ and /vg/ as far as I'm aware. Making the repo public does nothing then. It's a bit of a long shot, but the intent must've been to have someone from here pick up the torch, where it was being advertised.

are mechanical keyboards overhyped or what
i had a broken membrane for most of my playtime and i just got one for the first time, it's nice but not the drastic improvement people said it'd be and i play about the same
might be that i got a shit one but meh, i was told it's like going from 60hz to anything higher but it's not even close
    >>
    >>51359248
It's more that mechanical keyboard don't ghost, I'm using a pre 2000 membrane keyboard myself but it doesn't ghost unless I hold 3 keys or more at the same time in the same area, so it really makes no difference for SHMUPs.
    >>
    >>51359248
    >are mechanical keyboards overhyped
No but they might be... overtyped.
    >>
Is there a mirror for the fan translation of Gensou Narratograph? They took it down because of the official release being announced. Absolutely cucked.
    >>
    >>51351211
this would be neat with focus on fire enabled
    maybe auto-bomb via thprac
    >>
    >>51359248
Kinda depends. I've used membrane keyboards that were really good, and mechanical keyboards that I disliked.
You certainly *can* get a mechanical keyboard that will be much better than any membrane keyboard you can find, but you're not guaranteed to find a perfect match for you if your choice is just a shot in the dark (I certainly would have been disappointed if I just followed the common advice without first getting a switch tester, huge difference for me).
Objectively, no limits on key pressing as >>51359273 says is the biggest difference. Any speed difference will probably be minor if not imperceptible unless your previous keyboard was particularly terrible.
    >>
    >>51359248
    >are mechanical keyboards overhyped or what
kinda? I have been playing touhou all this time on my laptop's membrane kb until a couple of months ago, when I decided to try out a mechanical one with magnetic switches. it took like a month and a half to get used to it since I was trying to play with 0.1mm actuation force
at least it is much easier to do micro taps with this kb but you are better off just sticking to whatever you are used to unless it sucks

    >>

Keyboard. Lack of 360 degree movement on the controller joystick makes it less desirable than the precise taps of the keyboard.
    >>
    >>51361024
That's why almost all controller users use the dpad instead.
    >>
    >>51361530
D-pad down is more awkwardly placed than the down arrow IMO, also you have to use your left hand for it.
    >>
    >>51359248
Could be coincidence, but when my old membrane keyboard ate shit and died, I bought a mechanical one and got a 1cc the next day.
    >>
    >>51359248
I play with a mechanical at home and a membrane at work, and while there doesn't seem to be a difference in score, the feel of the keyboard itself is much better on the mechanical one, so even if my game doesn't improve, my comfort does.
    >>
    >>51363111
    >D-pad down is more awkwardly placed than the down arrow IMO
For me it's the opposite. You just need to keep your thumb angled by 45 degrees and every button becomes easy to press, even the diagonals if you keep the finger curved instead of flat on the dpad.
On the other hand, the down arrow requires you to bend your middle finger to press it, which can take a fraction of a second too long sometimes, especially if you've got long fingers.
    >also you have to use your left hand for it
That's just a matter of habit and preference, I've always preferred to have the movement buttons on the left.

But that's what makes it good, though? Most games can be cheesed with bombs, SA acknowledges how OP they are and make you pay a steep price for them.

That said, 1 bomb per spellcard and you're good to go there too, spellcards give almost your entire power back anyway.
