the biggest difference between japan and the west is discernment. they've embraced it wholesale while everyone else has varying degrees of when to use it and how much.
like in art or film for example. i think about how their directors put so much attention and care into crafting those movies that people still nerd on about like kurosawa, but then you have people just generating shit and they're totally ok with it

one thing i've learned is that japan's fake autism acting (which we call neurodivergence now) is working off cliches from 20 years ago. they actually toned it down from their version of "the good doctor" but here they spiced it up a bit but you can tell she's a normal person acting like an autismo
not impressed, but the japanese audience don't know any better so it works out
    >>
    >>51345424
I think she's mostly just copying the performance from the kdrama.
    >>
    did anyone watch Romantics Anonymous?
    >>
    >>51345454
yeah. i guess they (japanese and korean) audiences don't really look at the meta-commentary side of it and only view it as a cute quirk in this series because in the kento version, his colleagues and the patients often question if he's really fit to ethically treat patients while having savant syndrome level of autism. then there's the ameko jdrama where it's not as serious to the point where she needs those ANC headphones - she still functions normally, just without tact.
i'd personally be a bit worried if my fate is in the hands of a girl who can't get on an elevator by herself or does the weird 'tism shit with her hands or walks like a toddler.

I’m genuinely worried about the future of Japanese dramas. Instead of investing in their own actors, writers, and original productions, Japanese networks seem increasingly focused on collaborating with Korean companies. Japan has so much talent and potential. I wish its networks would invest more in developing and promoting it internationally.
    >>
    >>51346254
it's a double edge sword. I'm primarily a watcher of kdramas, been watching them for like 15 years, and the only thing international popularity has brought has been worse shows with shiny coat of new paint so no one else really cares as long as they look "modern".
    >>
    >>51346254
    >I wish its networks would invest more in developing and promoting it internationally.
Why? It means pandering to the West and being less Japanese.
    >>
    >>51346254
TV J-dramas have already been dead since the very beginning of the covid. What we're seeing is the aftermath of multiple events; the BPO's stricter and ever tightening regulations, foreign appeal and influence through the form of compliance, the rise of korean pop culture among women(the target audience of dramas), and the lack of interest in TV because young people just don't watch this ancient medium anymore. For the last point, tv is simply a dinosaur in the landscape of modern entertainment especially since you can just stream everything on your phone. J-dramas have no place on tv and should all move to streaming if they want to create kino like back in the day. At least Wowow productions have been consistently good.
    >>
    >>51346267
This. Anime has already been compromised
    >>
    >>51346254
It’s the same situation with their idols who act and sing like korean whores or their recent vidya output which fail like FFVII remake. Those boomers behind them can only follow trends instead creating new one.

i was very anti-k-culture in general because i thought they were a soulless copy of what japan perfected. i was very wrong.
korea somehow injects their own flavor into this crockpot of japanese+chinese+american style of production and it looks superb. it's just feels so clean and serious. they set a minimum standard for what they put on the screen so while i still feel they're still very by the book, they understand what their viewers want to see.
i've more or less given up on new jdramas and instead just watch the 1-3 good movies that comes out every year. maybe an anime here and there.

the difference between the j-culture boom of the 00s and the current k-wave is that the koreans know how much their stuff is worth. i remember japan had a stranglehold of east asian media with jpop, anime, games and movies and they did pretty much nothing with it.

For nearly 15 years, I followed Kdramas (romance), which used to be incredible, between the OST, the aesthetic, and the romance, everything was perfect.. But since 2020, they’ve become normified, gay and judaized. The romances are as superficial as can be, and the female lead, who used to be consistently cute and shy, has transformed into an insufferable boss bitch , even hypergamous. This is the case in absolutely every K-drama now, so I’ve stopped watching them. They’ve become completely Westernized; what was once content aimed at both men and women is now geared exclusively toward a Western, feminist female roasties audience.

So, here’s my question: are J-dramas worth checking out? Since I’m an incel filled with rage, the slightest sex scene drives me absolutely furious; I want a only pure romance

some positives jdrama has is that it somehow feels intrinsically japanese. series made for the japanese by the japanese means that you know they're not selling out to foreign audiences even if they're shooting in paris or mongolia.
the japanese slice of life dramas and movies has always been top shelf shit. they combine the beauty of the country, the lifestyle and the people in a nice and neat package. that also means you see less foreigners. a level of japanese purity and sensibility is maintained throughout....but it does feel like it's changing.
for example, in fune wo amu they introduced a gay character and devoted an episode for him and his gay rights. alright. then you have sex awareness, autism awareness, koreans, etc. and while these are serious topics, they are just not ready to broach them.

I don't really watch these kind of shows for realism. My favorite korean one was called "Voice", where the entire premise was that our star, a dispatcher (but also police woman) has extraordinary hearing that can pick up minute details from an emergency call that normal people wouldn't. It was all very silly, but took itself (mostly) seriously, which made it better.
I just want to see some criminals be scum, and for them to get apprehended.

    >i mean, i'm not even mad
I doubt that since you seem to be obsessed by TK getting a pass for whatever retarded reason and seem intent on defending this shitty drama and the ugly girl in it.

telling you to stop being a bitch isn't settings the rules on what can or cannot be posted

    >since you seem to be obsessed by TK getting a pass
again, no. see, i like kitano and i like the TK-anon so when someone asks for suggestions and he hamfists a kitano movie in, i chuckle because i know it's coming even if it's not what the original anon wanted.
the difference is that when this anon posts screencaps of a currently airing drama you suddenly think it's spam. it's not.

don't worry I'm used to it we have morons like that that freak out in the korean drama general any time I post park bo young. they like to pretend they're being objective or some such nonsense but they only ever freak out when it's certain actresses.

So I finally get the answer to this question
    >What causes a man to wake up one day and start shilling a mediocre actress with average looks?
It was just your typical /tv/ mental illness.
    >>
    >>51359537
you're a self-hating incel and i don't think this should be our problem. i'm just here for jdrama and jmovie talk, not freaking out about made up /crossboard/ wars.
    >>
    >>51359537
yes, you're acting just like the mentally ill /tv/ posters that I described.

The ending to OP was so weird, not "the pay and treat your crews better" speech that's like whatever, but the final episode being whole play that is a 1:1 of what happened to him.
Felt odd to end a humbled narcissist arc with him doing a theater piece all about himself. At least fictionalize some of it.

I'm not a big fan of high school jdoramas, mainly because the actors are often in their 20s but are made up to look younger - why are they so popular? Is it because people miss their high school days and want to relive them through a drama?
    >>
    >>51366153
When was the last big high school drama? People who want to see upcoming talents as the students or fans of the actor playing the teacher(s) may watch it

rewatched the first season of code blue and it’s just as lame boring dogshit as it was 15 years ago but i forgot how fappable the actresses in it were fugggg (didn't find any S1/S2 pics of them together so here's a S3 pic)

i feel sad that manami higa received less recognition than gakki or toda, her acting is good imo

Mackenyu is now using his real clan name Maeda instead of a manga character.
    >>
    >>51369346
He should have done it from the start but it was probably his former agent who chose it He used Mackenyu at first and he could have switched to 真剣佑 instead of alphabet. Some models turned actors switch to a proper name when they want to be taken seriously, like Iura Arata used ARATA for years, he probably thought it was corny when he got older. Koyuki kept using her modeling name but she's a woman and not as active anymore.
    >>
    >>51369346
    >>51369378
he did it because he was looking to doubletime hollywood and japanese tv, but it turns out that in current times people are totally okay with remembering your full name no matter how difficult it is
