How do religious people reconcile with predestination Especially monotheists where it's necessary to fulfill Gods omnipotence and omniscience. If God doesn't know where you'll be and cant intervene then that's not a God. Both cant coexist unless you're willing to admit God is unjust and can just do as he pleases and so should you Buddhists also believe in it indirectly since the cycle of suffering makes you end up in point 0 of being a gigacunt who will reincarnate yet again as a small time criminal in a delapidated slum
"Might" is not "all-mightiness" imo
>>225903198yeah but that iyo not what the scriptures say
>>225903056Yahweh is an evil god
>>225903056is that something muslim people believe in too? I thought it was only Calvinist protestants. No, i believe in free will. thats the whole point of the adam and eve story. god made us to be able to reject him, we must choose to walk the right path.
>>225903470That's all abrahamic sects and arguably all monotheistic religions as well and any religion that believes in cycles and a beginning and endAdam and eves story is about corruption and avoiding temptation, it doesn't prove or disprove predeterminism/predestination or else islam and judaism would have rejected itUltimately god is the one choosing whether you'll be born to become a believer or hell dwellerYour average muslim is in a state of dichotomy where they believe in destiny but when brought up the way i put it in Op they also believe that god cannot be unfair to his creation and that free will and predeterminism can coexist somehow. Another stance is brushing it off smugly since they believe god "preferred" them over others by making them muslim and it doesn't matter what happens to the others, this is no different than christian arrogance over "salvation"
>>225903056>how do they reconcile?religion and theology is basically just the art of stretching the meanings of wordsxey will just make up whatever bullshit fits xeir narrative, since xey xemself want to protect it at all cost, so questions like this are kinda pointless desuin this case the argument probably is that either Xe does some shit but you cant notice it, or that Xe has no reason to do shit, but there are definitely
>>225903714>Another stance is brushing it off smugly since they believe god "preferred" them over others by making them muslim and it doesn't matter what happens to the others, this is no different than christian arrogance over "salvation"Oooh. I hate that. I really loathe that shit. People who think they're going to heaven because they just so happened to be born into the "One true faith". As if you dont have to be a good person and a million other things. As if every religious doesn't think they're part of the true faith. They act like total dicks always.
>>225903056>religious people>cope with predestinationThey don't? The Thirty Years War was in part over a rejection of determinism, particularly the Calvinist strain. It's a conflict that set off the entire reformation. There's nothing about monotheism that implies predestination for most of history they stopped at earning grace and that was it. City of God/City of Man was almost entirely the invention of Manicheans and Augustine.
>>225904450>There's nothing about monotheism that implies predestination for most of historyYes it doesn't need to imply it when all scripture says it
it's simple - abrahamic religions are totally wrong about what they think god is
>>225903056It's all might makes right with God. If you go to hell, you're predestined for it. This is what I believe.
>>225904497Do you think people were going by scripture prior to the reformation or tradition? The Catholic church banned people from reading scripture, everything was good works and grace.
>>225905213See this is why it sucks to discuss religion. God says x in the book, that's theology and that's what's being discussed. What people do or do not is their own fabulation, the moment they claim to follow a religion they're liable to what it says to do
>>225903056In Islam, we have the concepts of qada' (decree) and qadar (measurement). It's too long to go into the details but basically humans and djinns are given free-will to decide their ultimate fates at the individual-soul level. I.e., they can decide to be a Believer or kuffar and as a good or bad person. However, at higher levels, (society, country, continent, planet) it is already predetermined (qada). E.g., natural disasters, wars, plague, floods. How you the individual deals with these fated events will count towards your ultimate fate. Think of it as the pre-programmed scenario in a RPG or RTS game. Qadar oth is the "amount" of "rezeki" (bounty) that you will receive in this life, e.g. how much or little money you will ever accumulate or the number of children you will have. You will receive exactly the "written" amount, no more, no less. What you do with it will impact your ultimate fate. Think of it as the resource points in an RTS game mission.
