How is cycling perceived in your country?

I'll begin:
>Japan
Cycling is "weird", but only because it is considered inconvenient and dangerous. It's said that only dumb people do it. Nonetheless, the ratio of cyclists:cars on Japanese roads is quite high (maybe 1:2), compared to Western roads (maybe 1:35)

Also, people here use "cycling/サイクリング" to refer to recreational cycling, instead of using the word as a general term for riding a bicycle.

I get the dangerous part (same goes for motorcycles imo) but what is inconvenient about bicycles? You don't need fuel, are far less likely to get stuck in traffic and have a far easier time finding a place to "park" your bicycle. Granted, crossing elevations can become a pain but there are two simple solutions to this (get /fit/ or get an electric bicycle).

cycling through off road terrain is cool
cycling on roads is cringe

Mostly seen as a hobby/recreation. You need to have balls of steel to ride a bike as a main mode of transportation because of the extreme heat, shitty roads, no bike lanes and drivers that are itching to murder you.

I follow all the traffic rules, ride as far to the right as I can, use hand signals, and still car motorists throw water bottles at me because they feel slightly inconvenienced that they have to move a foot to the left to pass me. Many motorists don't even seem to understand basic hand signals or the law that cyclists have to ride on roads and shared paths, and can't ride on sidewalks.
