I had a Bangladeshi roommate when I studied in America, and my mom would unironically call me asking if he was doing anything bad or suspicious.Later, I moved to another apartment where a Sri Lankan couple lived. The husband was quite racist but generally polite because I helped him do assignments. The wife was absolutely batshit racist. She saw African/Black employees working in the McDonald's and said "These blacks, why are they here? They are so rude". Later she said "We don't want people to think we are Indian because Indians have such a bad reputation". Once I wanted to sublease my room to another Indian student and she started making remarks about his accent and how he "looked dirty" even though he was much cleaner than both of them. A lot of South Asians think the racism against Indians doesn't apply to them so they are quick to join the bandwagon of hating Hindus and Indians. India is the only secular South Asian country that has made by far the most progress in LGBT rights, more so than Sri Lanka (officially Buddhist state where same sex activity is illegal).
