In my country, people pay taxes so that individuals can attend universities for free, does that happen in your country?
And when I say that anyone can go to university, I mean anyone... you could be very wealthy, very poor, or middle class, it doesn’t matter.
You just have to: 1) get admitted by passing the entrance exam, or 2) be content with a regional university, which is also free.

Yes, but there’s also an implicit IQ filter for uni applications with our high school tier system.

no i took loans though i plan to move for work and never repay them

can I

while the institutions and academic people are paid by the taxes all the service workers must be paid by the student which is like 100-300 euros per semester so it's still pretty cheap
>I mean anyone... you could be very wealthy, very poor, or middle class, it doesn’t matter.
that tho is a lie since there is a pretty big correlation between whether your parents attended uni or not and you doing the same
>>

How does that work?

I’m not sure if it’s similar to this, but in my country’s capital, when you finish middle school, you take an exam. If you pass, you get accepted into a high school that functions as a branch of the city’s major universities. If you maintain a grade point average above 9, you gain direct entry into the university, which gives you a significant advantage over those who didn’t attend that type of high school, or those coming from other states who have to take an admission exam where only 10% of applicants are accepted. That said, the system is somewhat controversial.

>>225869483
no, but a lot of people get subsidized by the state, so the fee is only about 500-600€ per year depending on the major

Literally, yes; in fact, there are public online universities that accept foreigners, it’s just that everything is in Spanish.

the actual IQ filter happens in the 1-3 semesters
>with our high school tier system.
also thats not true anymore, considering most states got rid of the classic hauptschule-realschule-gymnasium split and now allow parents to choose to which school the kid will go to (in case such split still exists in some shape or form)
>>
>>225869483
same over here but the exams are quite difficulty so only upper middle class or above manages to get into top tier university.

That’s true, but in theory, no one is denying them access to education. They can enroll, try to pass the entrance exams, and if they succeed, they’re in, without having to pay anything. This applies to the country’s top-tier universities.

For second-tier public universities, they simply need to enroll and complete an introductory course, which is much easier than a formal entrance exam. If they pass that, they’re in; from there, it’s just a matter of passing their courses to earn their degree in four years. No one is denying them an education; it is open to everyone.

The entrance exam in Mexico is extremely easy like you need to be retarded asf to not get at least 95% of answers correct because it’s only algebra and reading. High school entrance exam was way harder
>>
>>225869847
It depends; the entrance exams for medicine and engineering at UNAM, IPN, UANL, and UdeG are a slaughter.

Why so americans worship apple products?
>>
>>225869825
all that fake meritocracy is pretty gay tho, since in the end you're selling a lie to most of the people and make them feel bad if they can't achieve it all while theoretically they could
>>
>>225869847
I know people who wasted almost a decade trying to pass the medical school entrance exam.

Gag is, if med schools weren’t extremely selective they would have even higher drop out rates

No but yes but no. We have a loan system but it's very different to a normal loan.
Any resident in England can apply for a tuition fee loan and a maintenance loan. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are different.

UK universities can charge UK residents up to about £10k per year for tuition for a Bachelors degree. The majority of universities will charge this, and the tuition fee loan covers this entirely. This is paid directly to the university.

The maintenance loan is supposed to cover accommodation, living expenses, and course materials. I think this can be up to £10k per year. This is paid to the student's bank account. The amount you get depends on your household income, and if you live at home or at university.

You accrue interest on the balance borrowed when you first receive it. However, you only have to repay once you graduate and earn over a certain threshold. You repay 9% of your pre-tax salary regardless of how much you earn over the threshold.

The loan doesn't go on your credit file, but the amount you repay will be taken in to affordability calculations when you apply for credit like mortgages.

If you haven't repaid it after 30 years or you die, it gets wiped.

And that is how you ensure that locals pay the minimum, while foreigners who wish to study in your country pay full tuition without any financial aid.

Everything looks very american idk why you think so

because the avg lecture hall in burgerstan looks like picrel, also if you look closely at the keyboard i in the front you'll see an european enter-key and some umlauts
>>
>>225869520
Is it true that in europe every university and each department has its own entrance exam?

If it is like that it's great because here it is very stupid. There is only one exam that you can enter every year and there are questions from every lectures in high school. Biology, physics, science, math, turkish language, history, philosophy, geogrphy, religion. You have to solve all of those questions correct to get a good score and then you choose what university and what department you want to study.

One in every five pounds received by UK universities in 2022 came from international students which is pretty mental x
