The center of Santiago looks really bad, and it's full of people using drugs, graffiti, unfinished construction jobs, and homeless people

What the fuck happened?

Wasn't Chile supposed to be like the Norway of South America or something?

It wasn't that bad tbqh. I liked Santiago when I was there 7 months ago. The only shitty part I visited was the area around Estacion Central - everthing in the center near the plaza de armas was clean.

I loved the south of Chile. It has to be one of the most underrated tourist destinations, I felt like I was the only tourist there. Puerto Varas and Castro were my favorite cities.

I’m glad you liked it.
You’ve surely visited other Latin American countries like Mexico
in your opinion, what differences did you notice between other Latin American countries and Chile?
>>
>>225868970
Most capitals are among the worst places in a country. Humans shit up everything they touch and city centers are truly human environments. So naturally living there will drive you insane. We are toxic even to ourselves.
>>
>>225872674
Outside of Latin American capitals, nature is no safer; the only safe place to camp is Chile.

which is why we shouldn't put millions and millions of people all in the same urban district, cities like São Paulo or New York shouldn't be even half as populated as they are

Estación Central (a total shithole) is just one part of downtown Santiago, there are other areas you can visit

I want to start a tourism company in Patagonia.
My plan is to offer personalized vacations for people from the developed world—a professional, safe, and high-end experience.

The trips will take place on uninhabited islands, featuring lamb, seafood, and barbecues, paired with wine.
Guests will have access to jet skis and kayaks, and the locations are equipped with Starlink.
They will be able to land on islands, build campfires, camp, and get drunk—all safely.
We will also provide instruction in scuba diving and drone operation, as well as guided visits to caves.

an experience to show off on Instagram all year long

t. It wouldn’t hurt to have an American partner who could promote us and bring in clients—someone who could even act as a sort of intermediary, making the connection smoother by virtue of understanding the mindset of their own compatriots.

The only big Latin American cities I've visitted have been Rio, Sao Paulo, Bogota, and Juarez (this is basically an americanized mexican city so shouldn't count).

Santiago was definitely cleaner and more organized than all of those. It doesn't feel "European" but it definitely has its own unique vibe that doesn't fit with the ones I mentioned. I was recommended to not stay there for more than 2-3 days, and I tend to agree, I don't think it offered much to stay more than that but I could be wrong. I stayed for two nights and felt like I did a lot and saw almost everything worth seeing in the city. I visited San Cristobal hill, plaza de armas, the precolombian museum, went on a vineyard tour in Macul, the street markets around estacion central, and visitted the costanera shopping mall.

My favorite part was the vineyard tour. I don't typically do stuff like that and thought visiting vineyards was girly and snobby but I actually had a good time and got a little hammered with all the free samples.

Chileans overall have a different character to Mexicans and Brazilians (who I think are more similar to each other than either is to Chileans). Chileans are definitely more quiet/reserved, but they're not snobby/cold. Once you talk to them and show interest in Chile you quickly gain confidence and they become more talkative. Chilean highways are amazing btw, I had a pleasant experience driving in the south.

I think Chile is going to blow up as a tourist destination in the next few years. Patagonia aside, the south (auracania, los lagos) is super underrated and has so much to offer.
