I don't know how big that is, how much is it in football fields?
>>

its 1 hour because it takes 10 minutes every time to cross the road
>>
>>225855423
3 miles/h (4.83 km/h) is standard walking speed for a normal person.

Grid systems can be walkable. Planned cities are alright.
>>
>>225855870
I don't think that's right. I've always heard the average is 6km/h and in my experience it is (assuming you're not stopping at a right light every two minutes)
>>
I have kinda similar distance but I live in bumfuck nowhere village
>>
>>225855365
I walk roughly that far to the supermarket, but I wouldn't want to do it in the desert heat with a backpack full of groceries.
>>
>>225855365
use a car...
>>
I have, within a 3km radius of me, 6 different stores that are larger than 1500sqm. It's ridiculous. I have no idea how they can all stay in business.
>>
>>225855423
The walking speed is set for americans.
>>
>>225857248
6km/h is definitely above average. Not saying it's above the possible pace for a normal person, but you're pretty much striding at that point.
>>
>>225857663
For such a short distance? Inconceivable! Cycling is the logical option.

I walk exactly 2.0 km to work. It always takes 20-22 minutes depending on how much I haul ass. 20 minutes is a fast pace, 22 is more strolling looking at phone and stuff. I usually pass others and are never passed the average is more like 5km/h I say.
>>
>>225857596
this is bumfuck nowhere nevada so that tracks
> inb4 "erm ackshually this is las vegas!"
this is 20 miles / 30 minutes at highway speeds away from downtown. it is literally the last development you reach before you hit hundreds of miles of virtually undeveloped desert. of all the cherry picked examples this is the most disingenuous.
>>
3 miles is not that bad, we have much worse here
>>
would be very weird probably, they would think that some homeless crazy guy is in our suburb

I'm walking, so it's just a matter of time until a friendly police officer shoots me.

Why would I walk when I can drive? also that's clearly in the middle of nowhere

Everyone has the freedom to not live in a Vegas suburb
>>

car is the ultimate freedom

I think the gag here is your zoning laws. I live in a suburb too but it’s sort of organically sprawling out of a center with the grade school, food shop, pub etc. Like when was.the last time you saw a group of kids walk to the store to buy candy with their allowance in a place like this?
>>
>>225863610
I don’t think really understand this and are conflating different things regarding American urban planning. Zoning doesn’t have that much effect on our suburbs, the main effect of zoning is making it harder to densify neighborhoods in the center.

Zoning is the reason there’s not a corner store in this outer Vegas suburb, a corner store just wouldn’t be profitable. For one it’s low density, and in low density areas businesses have to be auto focused to be profitable. Secondly it’s street design, if suburbs were built more grid like and without every artery roads being basically a 6 lane highway, then you might have more ‘organic’ suburbs, similar to the one you live in. But when developers just want to build a few houses on a single road that feeds into the artery, you’re not going to get that. There are master planned suburbs where a developer plans what is basically a new suburban town that is similar to this. And for Vegas specific reasons, the weather is horrible in the summer and the people who live at the edge of Vegas are all old and don’t care about any of this stuff. There aren’t many kids in the OP neighborhood because the kids of these people are already grown up.

It looks a whole lot denser than where i live. I’ll concede the climate and Vegas culture point.

our zoning laws exist because we can't send blacks to separate schools so if you zone for low density blacks can't move into your town

i have a car
