Every time I get a commission my mother gets a serious disease. It's like the Universe doesn't allow my mother in a world where I'm a pro artist.
Am I just misinterpreting this? She always wanted me to go down the traditional path. Add emotional neglect and enabling my father's outbursts, and now I should pretend to care? Maybe this is the wrong board for this... Any thoughts on this?

I'm in the same messed-up situation. I get a commission, and sometimes I wish I could help my dad pay for things; he tells me it's not necessary, but I can't stand seeing him work himself to death. I'm just a loser who barely makes a dollars trying to help him. I understand your point about your mother, and I send my condolences for whatever illness you're going through, anon; keep working on your art, because good work does pay well (mostly for furry art...).

No, we aren't. Your father chose to work himself to death. My mother got an illness.

    >I send my condolences for whatever illness you're going through
Thanks, she had ovary cancer. She recovered from it last year, but I suspect her unchanged environment and her constant worrying brought it up again.

    >mostly for furry
Fuck you, I'm not going to draw that shit.

To end the conversation, I recommend going to /adv/. I don't know if you'll get a quick response, but it's useful for asking for advice on personal problems, family, and complicated situations. You're welcome.

And I'm not going to answer about my father, but you're right.
