How many artists are using AI now adays to just draw over? I feel like I see alot of artists on twitter that have really awful lineweight, and have a style looks AI adjacent. Usually press on their account to find its like 5 months oldPicrel unrelated, I was gonna post some artists I thought were tracers, but thatd be mean
actually fuck it i will post one guy, pretty certain this guy is an examplehttps://x.com/AbiBocchi/status/2098200871897063738/photo/1
>>8069844>How many artists are using AI now adays to just draw over? There is a lot of scum.
Why even draw over it? If you want to achieve a certain look, ai can also do that for you.Why even trace ai and not actual drawings?
>>8069846could be AI trace. But I have similar style and I don't use AI.I just never figured out lineweight, but have middling understanding of anatomy and perspective, so it would look both amateurish and passable at once.
>>8069882many people want to draw but cant. they must like the input of tracing and coloring and rendering themselves.unpopular opinion i dont see a problem with it as long as the ai art base isnt blantantly copying a real artists style. it doesnt seem much different to the abundance of artists who trace clip studio head and body models that tell you where everything is.
>>8069844There are a bunch, but I would call them failed artists. They only care about easy recognition/money. What is funny is that there are some that never were artists and just want to cash out. Their traces are so fucking obvious it hurts. You can't remove the slop look easily so it's not too hard to find out whether they're tracing. If you want to know if an artist is tracing or not, link them here and I'll check it out.>>8069846He's not tracing, but it does look like he's overly referencing slop. His skill without reference seems piss poor.
>>8069902>never figured out line weightmake lines thicker towards the viewer and thinner away from the viewer, make lines thick when they join against another line.congratulations you have figured out line weight
>>8069902Lineweight is impossible on cheap screenless tablets, I don't think it proves anything
I think at this point AI is one of those things pros use but Twitter drawfags don't, like tracing, photobashing, using 3D models and the like.Give it a few years and you'll have AI assisted art be as common as scraping some cosplayers Instagram but right now it's probably something like 2% of Twitter artists and 60 of industry artists.
I've noticed a couple artists very obviously tracing/painting over AI, but not too many. I tend to avoid slop, though.Even still, a lot of the artists who seemingly don't use AI seem very influenced by AI styles, which isn't any better. But it's nothing new, I guess. Pinterest is the worst thing that has happened to art on the internet.
>>8069846This is such a wierd fucking image. like why did he leave the opacity layer off on the background? You're telling me he can chicken scratch a decently proportioned muscle girl but he doesn't know how to use a paint bucket tool to fill in the background?
>>8069844What's the friggin point of doing this cope? Use a lora and be done with it. You're only wasting your own time "tracing AI" just to feel like you still belong as a manual slave. You either draw or you AI.
>>8069920lmao do you really believe this? holy cope
>>8069941But I can't understand why they use it. It's not something they drew if they generated and traced over it. It's not art at all.
Why is this a bad thing? I'm not asking in bad faith. Plenty of artists from the amateurs in the west to pros in Japan and Korea trace over 3D models. They arrange compositions using 3D models instead of imagining perspective and position by themselves. They photobash and copy exactly that. AI referencing/tracing, perhaps only to me seems like the next step on from that. If you have learnt your fundamentals and can draw what you are tracing freehand I see no issue with it provided you are using a mix of LORAs and not stealing someone's exact art style. I know I'm not the only one who feels frustrated with sketching and composition. It's something I can do but I would prefer to skip it to get to what I do enjoy, rendering. It's a tool of efficiency and anti frustration for me to use my own LORA and reference the output. If you are taking payment or chasing clout without disclosing your tracing I agree it's bad but if you're just doing it for fun what's the problem? I also understand being opposed if you are an artist who values the immense technical skill to get good at the craft, but many digital artists online are not in it as a show of skill they are in it for enjoyment. To draw characters they like, to aid them in making fiction and as something to relax. So many digital artists would be excluded from that definition of artistry because of the amount of shortcuts and " cheats" there are in digital art. So in conclusion I can't understand why people view it as an affront and antithetical to fully human art or art as a whole if you are using it as a base to manually reference, maybe change a bit but do all by hand. It reminds me of traditional artists and their dislike of digital art and what they considered cheating features like eyedrop tools and undo buttons.
>>8069977Literally me.Maybe it's time to learn the software instead of "just draw".
>>8069916You know the version where shadows have the think lines and the parts in direct light had lost libes made more sense to me... yours seems like an idiosyncratic stylistic choice that shouldn't be the mark of good or bad drawing skills. Also tablet sensitivity is hard to control. Matching line thickness would take hours. Pointless. I'd rather render at that point

Some people see art as just another form of work, using anything they can to make the final product easier. Some see art as something sacred. I remember someone who had to cancel their comic/manga because he was caught tracing REAL PEOPLE, this is purely retarded. Imagine that you need to deliver your product on time but can't use said technique because it would hurt the feelings of social media "artists". This is why most artists are insufferable and aren't taken seriously.

It's going to happen again, and it's going to keep happening as long as there's money to be made.>>8070423As someone who uses AI for programming, it's pretty much the opposite of creative. I use it because I'm really fucking lazy and don't feel like putting effort in. Having an idea isn't creative. Ideas are worthless. Creativity is in the execution, it's the problem-solving process involved with turning an idea into reality with what limited means are available. I'd call the AI itself more creative than someone prompting it.
>>8070434>it's pretty much the opposite of creativeSo basically if you put out a piece of software and I like it but I find that there is a feature that isn't there I can basically ask Codex to implement the feature without your permission. Therefore, I just used my creativity to make your software better for my purposes. I would not call that a "lack of creativity from someone prompting it". It's like the Japanese who took the toilet and amplified it by a thousand. Same concept.
>>8070256NTAThey care more about what sells and will do anything to make the ideal desired product that will be bought en masse
>>8069882AI explicitly generates what you ask for, so you don’t have to settle for copying something you don’t actually want as you might have to do with drawings by real artists.
>>8070437It's creativity in the way that if I'm hungry, I creatively make the choice to open the fridge. That is to say, not very. Your only creative input here is in choosing Codex to be your tool, and I would consider it a tool. But the tool does the rest of the creativity for you.
>>8070441>But the tool does the rest of the creativity for you.I'm using the tool that was created to be a means to an end for a bigger goal. Why are you stuck on the tool being the end goal of one's creativity? If I want to put out animation, the animation is the end product, not the tools that were used to get there which the tools are there to make the process of creation not only quicker but entire pipelines paid out to teams of 100+ consolidated into solo productions. The only thing stopping someone at that point is their on individual ambition. So I'd say the important thing here is not the tool, but >do you have anything worth sayingbecause there are no more excuses left
>>8069844almost all
>>8070444>Why are you stuck on the tool being the end goal of one's creativity? The process is the creative part, full stop. Creativity is the process of creation, not the creation itself. If you click button and get the ends you were looking for that's great, but the ends have nothing to do with creativity. You are not clever simply for using the tool intended for the purpose to do the exact thing it's meant to be used for. And yes, that includes the paintbrush.
>>8070451Why do you think there is no process of creation with AI? There's bad AI imagery and video and then there's really good imagery and video. If it was so easy, there would be a ton of people really good at making good AI content. That isn't the case, now is it? Because AI creation >CAN< (just like anything else in this world) take a lot of effort. It's up to the individual to put in zero effort at all and expect the world vs someone who takes what they do seriously.

But no brushstroke the AI makes is your brushstroke, even if you told it to do that.

I do. In general there're 3 types:- People that do 100% AI generations with not shame, clearly AI for the little trained eye, but NOT for the common person, so, they rely in the low IQ and knowledge of art that most of the population has to sell product so higher prices. You can find a lot of example in some places that gather cases, like on reddit search r/isitAI , there is dozens of people being scammed easily because they lack of knowledge, that's just the normal thing when a new tech is evolving, a lot of people is left behind because they refuse to learn, natural selection you could call it. -If you are a mid tier or higher tier drawfag, you have the chance of train a LoRa of your style, easy to do since the only important part is to have a consistent style and a bunch of images, just pick 100 of your drawings and train the style, done, (if you have less than 100 drawings sorry i can't even call you a drawfag). Then you can do paint-overs, use the image as 1:1 reference, etc. This only works if you are not doing commission of OCs and your main theme is fanart or a generic topic that doesnt require much control from your part.
>>8070997-The third type it's where i am. You use the AI to generate images too, but, your style is still not built in stone, so you still have plenty of range to improve and become a high tier, so, you use the AI to speed up the job while you improve. Since you can't really train a specific LoRa with your style because it is constantly changing, you mix artists tags to get closer to some ideal visual goal, and work on that. The method is quite simple you just text2img basic shit to post if you want faster things, then copy that by looking, if you skill or style is flexible enough you can just trace over and adjust as you are making the lineart and paint, since it will not look like the reference anyway, 0% chance to spot AI with that. You can also do img2img for commissions since most of the people provide an image, i could say that at least uhmm..... 80% of the cases with commissions is people that go like "i want this characters on this pose of this particular image", so most of commission works is copying that pose and replace with the client OCs or franchise characters, and you can easily do that in img2img, since you are not tracing the image 1:1, you just get as close as you can and with your own skill you put the key visuals of the characters, since most OCs are generic, is also easy to the models to make most of the things, you are still drawing all yourself so you correct anything by hand in the normal drawing process. ¿What's the difference then? is that is way more faster, because you dont need to think in the planification part, and in the refined sketch, and the blocking, and how to put the lights-shadows, you just produce a very close 1:1 reference and with that you can improve speed at least x2. Most people will never ask for complex perspective if you are not making that, so yeah, is very easy to the models to do shit. If you have regulars you could train models of their characters, but is a waste of time since most OCs are super generic.
>>8070998A lot of people do that, but you will never know, since there is 0% of spot that, unless you are very beg tier and in also retarded enough to rely heavily on the generated image. Curiosly that's the only way you can find the image people that use AI on the internet, because they fail so fix those details, or they are using the image 100% and not drawing at all. If your style is already super development to the point you are making good money, AI is just gonna help you to work less, if you are mid tier like me, will help to have more money, and give you time to develop your skill as you are getting clients. If you are beg yeah you are pretty much fucked you will gain nothing with AI, since you can't even draw correctly, is that same idea of people that trace 3d models and the drawings look fucking horrible because the models are fucked up and since they are begs they can't notice with their underdeveloped sense of aesthetics.
>>8070775>it's easier and probably cheaper to just buy a slopbot subscription and vibe code it yourself.Again, what's the problem here?
>>8070998Do you not feel dirty scamming people like this? Most people who commission art do not support AI. You are essentially lying to them. I don't know how you don't feel bad.

For many people, artistry is like a magic trick. They want to sit there and wonder how you brought the thing to life, but they don't want to know the actual answer. If you successfully bring the thing to life, it doesn't matter how you got it there. So much of art (not just illustration, but also music and film) came from experimentation and serendipity. However, I am not the kind of person who is okay with referring to prompted images as "art." You have to try a little harder to make it your own thing.
>>8071985>If you successfully bring the thing to life, it doesn't matter how you got it there.>You have to try a little harder to make it your own thing. So you're saying it's not art unless you tried hard. But the people who are good at drawing make pictures effortlessly. You might argue>they had to train hard to get thereThis isn't always the case. Many people are simply gifted. You and I already know the so called 13 year olds that xmog 3/4ths of /ic/. >For many people, artistry is like a magic trick. Many people also don't care they're watching AI korean dramas. This is a question only other artists ask when they see your work, not the rest of the population. >came from experimentation and serendipity.Do does AI art.
>>8072028>So you're saying it's not art unless you tried hard. Not quite. What I'm saying is that it's not art if you have very little or no creative input. If you just tell someone "paint me a scenery and make it look cool and have good composition" you didn't really create anything, you told someone else to create something. Now if you got in there and started moving things around while the person is painting, and directing them, you become a director, which is its own kind of artistry. I'm sure many promoters imagine themselves as directors, but there's a pretty big difference here when they're simply rejecting the final delivery over and over again until they get one they want with different instructions. Is being an annoyingly persistent and difficult to please customer an art? Maybe, I don't know.
>>8072082>If you just tell someone "paint me a scenery and make it look cool and have good compositionThat is no longer how AI video is made. Maybe by amateurs who don't know any better, but not serious creators like myself. I'm directing every shot every step of the way. Serious AI creators have to, because it costs money every time you hit "generate". I can see you think AI art is some Cashinado slot machine where the people who use it are okay with dumping endless money for an iffy result.
