I took a long break from drawing (around 1–2 months) and came back to it today. Ive noticed that my drawing ability hasn't regressed, since I mostly did observational drawing before. (Ill admit that I'm much better at copying drawn objects and things than drawing from life) So, I'd say my strongest skill is copying. On the topic of 3D space, what's an alternative to Drawabox? I took that course around January this year, but I didn't feel like the lessons were sticking with me, so I quit due to a lack of improvement. It's not that I got tired of it. One of my goals is to be able to draw like the OPs image
>>8067043I would never say that a long break is GOOD and I don’t recommend it, but they won’t always cause a big regression, and in fact you might find after a break that some things clicked subconsciously for you and are easier now.
>>8067043theres not really any perspective in pic related. maybe one large book where you can see both edges bending to a vanishing point. so yeah, not really any.now, you can demonstrate space in lots of ways, but even the figures have nothing to foreshorten.and check the lamp, that may as well be 2d technical drawing. book stacking maybe gives a bit of 3d as the planes get a bit thinner, but that could simply be due to smaller books as you go up.here ill give you a practice. copy your pic but change all the books to flower pots. see what happens.
>>8067090I have zero knowledge of 3D forms or how to rotate them, which includes drawing flower pots from different angles. i mean, i could use references, but I cant really rotate the objects myself
>>8067203you dont have toevery square contains a circle for example.and if thats what you dont know, well, now you know what to practice
>>8067043BTW I'll post my work.
>>8067811Drawn using the basic unit method. Idk how to simplify things using geometric forms, so it took me around 3 hours to finish this
just draw nigga!!!
>>8067043The main tool there being used to generate space and depth is its seperation of values and information density, which allows the singular source of light to look like it's "filling the room". The actual perspective on display is not actually that sophisticated, but Girls Last Tour pushes the background further away by contrasting the darkness of the wall to the midtones of the books and the protagonists, and the only pure whites are the planes exposed to the lantern's light. So it's really just the lighting doing most of the work in conveying space.I don't know any draw-a-box alternatives for this, but I think you're after a methodology thats more value driven, so a course that teaches value control and composition might be what you're after. Hope that helps.Copying is a good skill to have too, you can use it to pick up stuff from other artists, and you'll have an easier time learning from references, and if you ever get more interested in drawing from life, the skills are probably more transferable than you think, and you might find yourself understanding space easier since you'll be translating from 3d to 2d, rather than 2d to your own 2d if that makes sense.
>>8069208I don't want to tear you down but your copies are good but not quite there, if you're nearing proficiency with copying by eye then a simple drawing like this would take 10 minutes or so
>>8070241If you dont mind, Id like to see the process you go through when copying a drawing. I know it might sound tedious, but id really benefit from seeing your process if you dont mind sharing it.
>>8070241>10 minslame ass shitposter lmao
