/biz/fag here. Made 120K this year from trading, so I bought a Wacom Cintiq Pro 22 for 3K. I have never drawn before but I want to get into it. The endgoal is to retire and become a Manga artist full-time as a hobby.Have I made a mistake? Is an expensive tablet a good way to learn how to draw?
hahaha
>>8067037why start with tablet and not pencil and paper?
It’s good if it motivates you since you spent a lot on it, but usually not. You’d get the same results off of a 200$ tablet , also 3k is a bold purchase for only making 120
>>8067037learning on paper is (a bit)easier cause you don't need to learn how to use the drawing program at the same time
I learned to draw with a screenless tablet, I already knew how to use photoshop so that wasn't a big hurdle for me; a screen tablet translates a lil bit better if you want to move to traditional later on. that said, I still struggle a lot with trad every time I try it. I'm not even talking about oh you can ctr+z all you want, you can flip the canvas, you can use layers etc etc, all those things have analog alternatives, It's just has a different feel to it. If you want to draw trad draw trad , if you want to draw digitally draw digitally, that's all there's to it. Either case you'll need to learn how to use your tools plus the actual knowledge to make a good drawing. it's up to you, but I would recommend doing both at the same time from the very beginning
>>8067037It’s a terrible idea for reasons that are hard to explain. When you learn to draw the tactility and the resistance of the medium are constitutive of the learning process. On a digital tablet it’s all smooth sailing, and you can certainly get quite far but there will always be something missing. Moreover, plenty of artists will be able to tell that you didn’t learn traditionally
>>8067037you have paper and writing implements lying around the house, money or the things it buys was never an obstacle to learning to drawyou'll spend the money and then lose interest within a month and then do mental gymnastics as to why you're not drawing, probably shitting up the board in the process
>>8067037So you're just tracing AYE EYE huh. Well good luck.
>8067240(you)extremely low effort bait
>>8067299Not bait at all, honest opinion , what part came off as bait?
>>8067037>>8067199This ^But also, digital is deceptively very difficult. Layers are easy, true. Undo is easy, true. But actually getting a drawing to not look like complete dogshit is a lot harder than it looks. Traditional does a lot of sanity checking for you by forcing you to stay within the bounds of the medium. A pack of good colored pencils will give you good colors and texture with no effort from you, all you have to worry about is making the lines. In digital all that has to be done manually. If you don't know where sensible bounds are meant to go, you're going to have a very very bad time. You'll only improve if you can recognize what knowledge corresponds to an objectively better drawing. Digital traps you into everything looking terrible until you have enough well-rounded knowledge built up that you can use to leverage it's strengths.
>>8067344You can skip past all the digital looking hurdles if you have good taste, but it's hard to tell of OP will have it or not
>>8067240Seems so
>>8067037You know AI eixsts right?
>>8067299>first timer artist>"want to get into drawing">but somehow you have a nice looking proportions with doodle level artlineI ain't baiting but I'll call a spade a spade. Or it isn't even OP's picture, so whatever. But if anyone's into tracing, then whatever, it's their decision. They'll get bored over it though and will just directly slop eventually. So good luck.
>>8067444what are you sperging over, anon, tracing is the great way to get comfortable with a tablet
>>8067037lol huion kamvas gen 3 for 200 used all day has double the pressure levels than this 3000 dollar tablet same color gamut as well, why are you paying all this money? To learn? Just a waste of space and cash
>>8067037ixy learned to draw on a drawing tablet and dude is doing ok
>>8067037A couple of days ago, I also started learning to draw using a tablet, so far it seems like a good idea.
>>8068552ixy traces 3d models though.
>>8067037what trades should i make if i want to get rich quicki need to escape my shitty job asap
>>8068675Don’t, just put in Roth , put Roth in voo and let it do the work , left over money put in etf as well
>>80686751. find a better job2. don't believe people on fucking 4chan when they claim they're not: a) unwashed neets or b) wageslaves with the shittiest tier job imaginable
>>8068643now I know you dont watch his streams
>>8067037lol extremly similar situation to me, except that was two years ago, the 140k money was from lottery though I almost doubled it by trading since then. Your progress will heavily depend on how dilligent you are I am a lazy fuck with a day job so I am mediocre at best still.I also started with a tablet though I would reccommend the occasional trad training arc to make sure you dont fall into some digital pit falls like eternal turd polishing or always staying zoomed in too much loosing the overview. Then you are stating of a lot better than me.
>>8069200I just got $56mil from my uncle and it's kinda pointless now that I can just pay for the best AI lmfao.
>>8069209sure you did rajesh. Winning money is all the more reason to pick up a creative hobby free of financial burdens. why would you waste that on AI? Even if you are convinced AI will kill digital drawing there is still trad art and there are plenty of other creative outlets that wont be replaced by AI anytime soon. I made a few simple modeling clay figurines, kinda ass but cute. Also thinking of picking up sewing to make some cute outfits for my ball jointed dolls. Even if you just care about the end result not having fun creativly commissioning an actual artist is always the better choice.
>>8069214Literally you can hire someone to paint you your AI painting idiot?
>>8069231why the fuck would you do that instead of commissioning original art? Thats like intentionally telling a baker to put sawdust in your bread.
>>8069036I watched his course
>>8069239Because it's yours from your mind and your taste and skill, then some loser just does the physicality of it, like back in the good old days of the renaissance. Which you wouldn't know because your from a shit family with no money.
>>8069323you gotta pick a lane, man, bait doesn't work like that. amateur shit
>>8069325Bitch too poor to give your AI to a famous painter to paint and then fuck with him every day while he's doing it and then sign yourself on it lol.
sad
>>8067037So for people with that Cintiq Pro keyboard extension like in OP's pic, what keyboard should I buy that WON'T just slide off the keyboard extension?
>>8067195You suck baylego. You keep butchering the faces and torsos by making some elements too long.
>>8069261and what did he say about tracing 3d models?
>/biz/you're fucked no matter. I'd sell the tablet and buy a cheap hooker instead.Drawing is only for the mentally strong
Very interesting to read these totally wack comments lmao
>>8067037>a Manga artist full-time as a hobby>full-time >as a hobbyJust like how you traded full-time as a hobby?
>>8067050>3k is a bold purchase for only making 120Why?
>>8067037Bro, just buy pens and printer paper. Aren't you guys supposed to be frugal?
>>8069462You don't, you buy one of these babies insteadThank me later
