Am I wrong?
For both instructional books of decent quality, and ones that are hugely acclaimed like toshi's animator books, and even courses from famous artists, I feel like the text/spoken portion is very limited, and most of the gains you get are from drawing by reference anyway.
In that case, rather than autistically completing a full textbook or course, wouldn't it be better to compile a list of sakugabooru frames you like, or manga pages you like, or paintings, portraits, sculptures, whatever - to make "your own textbook" and study from there instead?

A simpler TL;DR question you could answer is: "Should I just not autistically waste time on 400 page textbooks like top left in picrel"

Yep. Better to build a collection of references to study than to use a textbook. A textbook/course is really only meant for experienced artists.

What books are those?

1st one is picrel
2nd one just search toshi animator art book on google
I got into coursebusters and got some books from there (there's also a lot of books on /ic/) but i'm seriously questioning their utility after now having completed 1 or 2 of them last month

Teaching art is very hard so most of them suck ass. Most are lazy cash grabs to trick beginners that don't know any better. Only the great ones are worth copying completely. For the rest just pick and choose the parts that are good.

Could you share a few of those?
I copied all of the first part of draw a box and a Hogarth book and those (I, as someone between /beg/ and /int/ I'd say) I would consider as part of that
