Has this board gotten deader lately or it it just me? Seems like the only threads that consistently have people posting art are /beg/ and /draw/
what with idiocy spam in the catalog lately
>>8065332what do if bad at drawing
>>8065472if bad why draw?
Is semen a good substitute for gesso?
Is there a name for this artstyle
>>8065675Ugly as fuck
>>8065675why not look into the artist of that piece and their inspirations instead of trying to look for a blanket term?
I usually draw lying down and I find I always have trouble with perspective while drawing like that whereas it comes easier when I draw sitting does that make sense
>>8066389No.Also, stop it.
>>8066403>Also, stop it.Why?
>>8065332How do I capture the essence of this facial expression?Even when tracing it doesn't look angry at all
>>8066468you're missing the flared nose and the iris barely/not touching the top eyelidyou can look at cartoonish styles (disney etc) to see what parts of the face really make an expression readablea clearer reference might also help
>>8066717I feel like there's some aspect to the mouth I'm not getting.
>>8066733
>>8065339It did. I can't say how it was long ago since I'm a newfag but it was extremely activ in 2020s and now after the shit threads, ai threads and the sharty hack, most have stopped coming here. But everyone tends to come here ever so often after a while so it you post drawings then others will too
>>8066468With complex refs like this go to base 1. Use this website https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/skull-for-reference-719c274b35264ebbb906981298121955Draw the skull from a similar angle as the ref and then try tk place the features with the skull in mind. I’ll probably do a drawing for you when I wake up
Thoughts on the kamvas 22?
Cumvas lmao
>>8066840Wow rude.
How do you use microns for inking? I bought some because I want to refine my graphite sketches, but I have no idea how to use these things. People always say to do long stokes, but I see people online petting their lines to get where they want to go. I've tried imitating them but my lines always look shit. How do you use these things?
would it be feasible to find a mentor;;;im a beginner artist and rly bad and overwhelmed and unsure of where or how to start. i think having a good(ish) artist help me along the way would be so cool but im really worried that ill disappoint them :<
>>8066468>>8066736You're right it's hard to capture. Probably of no help to anyone, but I tried
>>8065675The figure top left reminded me of that gay artist who draws those muscular males which became a sort of meme
>>8065675There's no name for that style, because it's exclusive to that particular artist. He's obviously inspired by Frazetta, Brom and Vallejo, but he made it it's own thing.Dota 2 period Valve artists really are something else and all doing their own thing. They enlisted a bunch of soulless ex-popgame artists now and it's really shifting into the comic-book territory (insulting)
>>8066468Once again à problem I see on this board time and time again: lack of planning and understanding how to simplify. Before jumping into the drawing, take some time to break down what you’re looking at/trying to draw. What’s the perspective? Your eye level is below the subject and you’re looking up at it. What forms can you use to simplify the face in this perspective? How does the face look as a skull? What’s the shading pattern for the hair? Once you establish these simple questions, THEN move on to the final drawing.
>>8067411pfft
>>8067411It's the pressed mouth I wanted to focus on. You got the perspective but it does not look like she's fuming. One half is the eyes. Her eyelids should be invisible as she's spreading them open. The other half is that damn mouth. Maybe it's because we've gotten used to stylized mouths with no lips, but it doesn't read as pressed with anger. How do you show the muscle tension there?
>>8067411Hahahahahaha, begs can’t give advice or they wouldn’t be begs case and point
>>8065332ok got a question for anyone who uses an airbrush. i'm going to get a vortex mixer as a gift for christmas, but I want a small mixer now, i'm going to get a cheapish one that can double as nail polish shaker for family once I get the good one, what i'm wondering about is are there any good cheap bulk small containers for paint I can buy, i'm thinning acrylic paint, putting a retarder into it, so I make small batches atm, just wondering if there is a good thing to buy for this or if I should consider a different method.
>>8067507I understand that. For stuff like that it requires more knowledge of facial muscles and how to manipulate them. What I drew was more of a basis for how to approach the problem initially.
>>8067511Begs are the only ones left willing to help even if theyre hopeless
When the /ints/ have abandoned us begs. What else is there to do but lend a helping hand to each other?
>>8067555beGODs always have your back
>>8067511Looks int to me though.
>>8067511I’m just giving advice, it’s not like I’m making a whole piece. The point of the advice is to show them what concepts to apply when approaching the drawing, that’s all.
my artstation account has laid dormant for like 3 years at this point.Yet occasionally I still get a random follower now and then. It's probably bots, right?
Is it bad to use ai references? I get why its bad to pass of ai art as something you drew but I dont think it seems bad to reference it especially when you can generate the pose / outfit / body you want without having to spend hours photobashing
>>8065332How can I avoid the fate of arbiterwolf?I am bad at observation/copying/spatial recognition how should I train those?Should I do croquis and draw boxes?
>>8068035Depends on who you askIn a bubble I personally think it's fine to create a perfect reference for yourself. In the grand scheme it aint worth destroying the environment for, but we're too far gone past that point as is so fuck it.
Should I give up I’ve been drawing since 2019 and I still suck ass at it I wish I was dead.
>>8068039Arbiter's problem is that he fell for the constructive drawing trap (draw boxes!) and thought tracing contours would result in growth. He completely skipped gesture and didn't even learn perspective right. To avoid ending up like Arbiter, you need to work on your observation/copying/spatial recognition. There are a few ways you can get better at this:>grind at least two week's worth of shapes and simple forms>as a daily exercise, draw overlapping continuous lines, arcs, (and shapes) >find simple references (Kirby, Pokemon, Mickey Mouse) and trace them, making sure to break them down into simple shapes and forms>take a reference and observe it for as long as you want: then hide it and draw it from memory, then take out the reference and make a copy before comparing the results>do timed gesture studies from line-of-action or other sites>draw your surroundings from various sitting/standing positions
>Draw object >Draw another object in front of it>The lines of the background object are now inside the foreground objectIs there a better way to deal with this that isn't just erasing the lines everytime? I waste so much time doing this shit.
I recently started using Krita - litterally 30 seconds ago. What the fuck is this shitty workflow?Selecting something is horrible, transforming is horrible, deselecting is a pain - why is the shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + A to do that?Erasing is tied to the brush you are using, so if I make a mistake - I need to increase the size of my brush, then erase, the select E again to turn off erasing (Not B to go back to the brush), then reduce the size of my brushAm I using it wrong or something? No way people can enjoy this tortureI've used photoshop, CSP and even drawpile and none of them have a workflow setup like this - it's totally unique and gay
>>8068303You have to customize it to your own taste. You'll get used to it.
>>8068303Krita has erasers if you don't want to hit E
>>8068303FOSS devs always want to do things differently instead of following the standards of similar software. you have to customize it. some basic things will need plugins or digging around in the menus.
>>8068035yeah, it'll make your art look like AI and you'll copy AI mistakes.
What's everyone's daily and/or when you have time routine? I usually doodle for a bit after waking up, read something related to art or how to draw books, lunch then do some studies e.g. watercolor practice, inking, anatomy etc. until dinner then maybe draw whatever before bed. How do I maximize all this time? I feel like I should be doing more or allotting time for something specific each day.
>>8068303Go into the setting and change the shortcuts to whatever the fuck you want, why are you being a crybaby?
What does it mean when someone replies to my art with this sticker?
>>8068753It means an orange hit my eye and I have a big red blister on my cheek
>>8068303every time i hear someone bitch about krita its always the same shit>what the FUCK the shortcut to do this incredibly specific thing is DIFFERENT?! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??!!?!!?it takes a day max to pick up a program's workflow especially when you can rebind commands. this is the most autistic shit in the universe and i can only imagine its nodraws finding any excuse to put off working
>>8068303noobboy uses Krita fine so this is a (You) problem
>>8068856selecting a brush/eraser or selecting / deselecting is a "very specific thing" damn go back, sorry I poo-pooed your big daddy kritaMultiple people have suggested above that the shortcuts are bad and need remapping>>8068859>noobboy uses Krita fineKrita users are ESL confirmed
>>8068695>What's everyone's daily and/or when you have time routine?Smoke 2 cigarettes and go back to lurking for hours maybe have a fap. I just draw sometimes when I feel like it.
Do you ever feel like you got lucky on a drawing and made something way above your skill level and will never make something that good again?
>>8069179My skill level is high I just don't live up to it the overwhelming majority of the time
>>8069179If you feel this way you don’t draw enough
>>8069179Literally always. I have to iterate several hours in different days to get something almost good.I either luck out or have to give up the drawing.
>>8065339it's a double-edged sword. good news is that a thread can stay up for weeks, which means more engagement. a thread will be buried in 10 minutes on boards like /v/ and /b/, and i've noticed a lot less sloptards on /ic/ lately too>>8065332why does krita's "color to alpha" tool not work on some colors (like the "lineart green" from the presets) when set to a sensitivity of 1? i'm a pixel artist and i like to be able to use the "color to alpha" tool to selectively remove colors and fill an underlayer with a different color for easy replacement and editing of certain elements. makes no sense to me why it hates a few select colors.i also want to know if it's possible to modify the elipse tool to actually draw symmetrically. i'm guessing it's an issue with sub-pixel precision which i really don't need.
Is everything really done by hand in 3D modelling, like every corner every bevel? Or do they have equivalents of foliage brushes?
>>80695323D modeling usually involves just making one asset and duplicating it over and over, if you wanted to make leaves. you can also randomly place objects with an algorithm, like in blenderguru's donut tutorial (you do the same for fur or hair).
someone posted a few youtube videos on here from a JP channel with auto-translate, talking about how mere copying won't improve you. I lost the tab and can't find the thread again, does anyone have a link to the thread? It was from the last day or so
What makes someone an artist? I can only heavily reference other art or photos and need models. Does this make me an artist if I can't imagine and envision from my mind? Ain't got a problem with no being one because all I do is anime art and I would consider that a lesser form of art if I'm being truthful but I'm wondering about where artist ends and non artists who engage in drawing begins.
>>8065332It's been a while since I've been on this board, which generals are actually good for constructive feedback on painting? Is a watercolour/oil painting general something that exists and if it doesn't, how much demand do we think there is for one or does everyone just draw digitally now?
>>8069965for watercolour/oil painting. there is the /trad/ general. proper crit is few and far between. you have to ask a specific question or get lucky. show effort and people are more likely to engage. ignore any unrelated comments.
>>8069912Personally (warning, this is some abstract philosophical bullshit), I think the difference is that an artist is one who responds to the world with their art, whereas someone who isn't an "artist" but has the technical skills (like say a draftsman) sees the work they produce in a more material sense. That's not to say there isn't an overlap between the two, I'm just saying someone who isn't an artist but can draw or demonstrate technical skill is one who isn't expressing something personal through their work."Something personal" is a really broad concept too, it can just be like, your own personal attachment to a certain rendering technique, or what you choose to focus and show in your composition because for whatever reason, you found it personally inspiring. Doesn't have to be deep or profound, just something that you are personally interested in.If you've ever held an emotional attachment to something you made through a creative process, I'd say that makes you an artist. That doesn't automatically make it good art, but it's art nonetheless.
At what point is it worth it to make a colored illustration out of a sketch? That's what I always wonder. I'm never sure if I should polish something and color it so I just end up doing sketches.
>>8066468Probably something stupid that's keeping me from getting this expression just right but here's my best shot at it. What I'm seeing and chose to exaggerate with the mouth is it looks like she's got a bit of a pout going on. Her lips are also puckered/drawn into her mouth to the point of being barely visible which I think you noticed with your tracing there. The actual mouth shape is kind of an upside-down check mark and her entire lower face is sorta scrunched towards the left of the picture which I think gets lost if you just trace the darkest lines of the face.
>>8068021I wouldn't say so. It's the internet, someone will chance upon your stuff years after upload especially if you've tagged it well. I favorite old art all the time.
How bad is undo spamming. Should I like, make it a more annoying keybind or unbind undo and force myself to use the eraser for a while to curb the habit.
im wondering which brushes to use to get a result similar to the one in the right, im using CSPthat and i was wondering how do you guys know which color to use for flats? i often see that people use a darker color that the one is used in the finished product, thanks in advance.
My screenless tablet is dirty as hell. What should I use to clean it?
I'm finally graduating from drawing with a mouse and Ms Paint to using a drawing tablet and a real art program. What the fuck is pen pressure and how do I use it? I don't feel like I grasp the concept at all. With a mouse, lines were fully and solidly one color. Now everything is an ugly muddy inconsistent gray. Also what art program should I use? My potato computer isn't strong enough to even run Team Fortress 2 smoothly.
>>8071601I use a microfiber cloth with warm water
>>8071715Pen pressure on opacity is only good in my opinion, max 10-15% variationI.e. at the softest pressure you're at 85% at full pressure you're at 100Same with size variation, it doesnt need to be zero to big, just limit the sizeYou should have a pen pressure setting somewhere in the paint program and on specific brushes
What are the best CSP brushes for ink wash style paintings?
>>8071715PaintTool SAI 2 runs great even on potato PCs. pen pressure settings are personal preference. experiment a lot to see what feels good to you and gets the results you want. plenty of pros just use the standard default settings, others have extreme curves. turn on the "force proportions" settings if it's a screenless tablet too.
>new watercooler talk when
What exactly guides the drawing process for other people? When I look at or imagine a subject, I can't figure out any way to mentally transform it into a drawing. I also can't even imagine a process that would result in the creation of a drawing of it. As such, my efforts are completely aimless, and I can't tell if anything I'm doing is wrong or bringing me closer to my goal because I don't even know what I'm trying to create. My current "process" can be summed up as spending 20-30 minutes agonizing over what I should be trying to mark with lines before carefully placing each one, and after many hours of work eventually ending up with some weird squiggles that don't look like anything.
What#s the point of drawing if you never will be able to draw like kim jung gi?Why even try if you are essentially a baby on training wheels because you need construction to be able to draw anything remotely decent?
what's the point of eating if you're gonna shit it anyway?what's the point of drinking if you're gonna piss it out?why live if you can kill yourself?
low iq people are annoying
How do I test how my image is going to look on twitter?? The fucking retards locked my side account that I used to do that AND forced me to update my app to the shitty version and asked me show my face to verify it, so I had to get rid of it. I can't even appeal because the email was randomly generated + it says "Valid data is required" for some fucking reason. Fuck I'm so frustrated with this tedious privacy-invading bullshit.
