Is this book better than drawing on the right side of the brain?
They're both celebrated books. Take a look at them and decide for yourself. Have at least little critical thought.
>>8065124I read both books. Keys to Drawing helped me A LOT more than Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. The latter book kinda gets lost in the sauce whilst Dodson's approach is to draw without fear and accepting the scribbles.
>>8065124You need the folded 50 times version
>>8065175I dont want to be that guy but the example on the cover looks exactly what I need on the thing japan version.
>>8065124Nobody on this board finished any of them. You need real people to pose for you to do Keys to Drawing so it's useless.
>>8065124sure, kid. this gay boomer book is better than that gay boomer book. your gonna make it.
>>8065124I found Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain completely pointless, and gained absolutely nothing from doing the exercises. Keys to Drawing was even worse because it gave me some crippling misconceptions about how to approach drawing, and I regard it as the single worst instructional resource on any topic I have ever encountered. What I actually did find helpful were Mark Kistler's books, The Art and Science of Drawing by Brent Eviston, and Arthur Guptill's Sketching as a Hobby. I will note, though, that unfortunately what you find helpful is likely based heavily on your starting skill level, what you happen to find intuitive, and your existing preconceptions, so your experience won't necessarily mirror mine.
>>8065127>Have at least little critical thought. But I feel lost if people don't tell me what to do.
Why would you draw on the brain? Wouldn't it damage it?
I've been reading Keys to Drawing, and though I'm not far int he book, I appreciate what it's telling the audience. In the beginning it talks about contour, using your eyes to draw what you see. It tells you to be okay with your art, because it's just lines on a paper and with time will become better - detach from your drawing so you don't get discouraged. It talks about copying master studies, etc. It's a good book that teaches you different ways to draw and understand, and I enjoy it.It's been over 10 years since I've read drawing on the right side. I can't remember much from it except the upside down drawing, which is a very interesting in and of itself.
