Study perspective, composition, and the mannequin- you are doing far too much for someone at your level. Master simple, easy to read, and clear environments and figures before trying to do things this complex- or if you do, at least plan better.

There are some ideas I like, especially the robo feet, but I think this showcases how composition, gesture, and values (in that order) are the most important things in an art piece, as many texts mention. Lets say the rendering is perfect. The overall work still doesnt look that good because it's cramped and stiff, with little indication of whats happening, and that comes straight from the source. I would recommend studying composition. With the amount of illustrations you are pumping out, I think you would see great gains. Good work, keep going!

>>8063956
The colors are stunning. You have a good eye for color (even if you were to say the colors were color picked, it doesn't take away from the execution). Honestly, I would nurture that skill and recommend doing still lifes for a while. For drawing, since you seem to like furry art, choose a character and draw it over and over, preferably one with a big muzzle so you can practice perspective.

>>8063979

Saw a vid about focusing on values/tones instead of detail.
Tried to follow.

I didn't know what to do with the reference, but tried to shade the main area (a triangle in the middle), then darken and lighten wherever appropriate.

Tbh, the process felt more random than anything. Darken here and there and then smudge.

Share your thoughts/critiques. Any advice is greatly appreciated, since all I find anyway is just "draw the fundamental shapes."
>>
>>8064120
before values you might be better knowing how to separate light and shadow into shapes using simplification and abstraction in a binarization process know as notan sometimes. if you still dont understand what i mean search images for "photoshop threshold effect" in google. an anon suggested a time ago this "lowkey photography" but he said "highkey" instead of low, so search for it too.

i was gonna have the harkonnen cannon the thing she was carrying but later on i found it would be to big and would not fit well with what ive already drawn o algo so i just gave up on it

im still working on clothing folds and stuff but if anyone has advice for how to draw with weapons and drawing knees because i still find it hard to draw them while the leg is straight

also design the shapes to look simpler and more appealing. the hair looks like a mess because of all the random shapes.

4-3k pixels on the longest side should be fine, as long as your device can handle it. more isn't better if it starts lagging, especially with more layers. stuff gets downscaled on most platforms anyway.

That doesn't happen.
Nobody cares in X/Facebook/Instagram. Alternative social media such as Bluesky or Tumblr are filled with lunatic troons that will get yo banned for bullshit. Discord requires ID verification and most servers are utterly dead or are just like /beg/. Pixiv isn't for critiques and is more for /int/ artists and above. Other chans are more dead than this one.
Not to mention that just receiving a "it's good" or "it's bad" is, more often than not, good enough as a critique because you can know whether to look for flaws and observe intently or just leave it as is and be satisfied with your work.
What sites do you recommend for critiques?

Alright, well, I'm not sure I'd call it very appealing right now, but there's definitely some, I like the expression, the eyes lashes, even if not perfect.
I can tell that your style will be appealing when you work out some of the flaws (Like the neck anatomy, the ear being too close to the eye, the shoulders and breasts look inanimate, and everything being a bit too rigid) and get better overall.

Unless you want to finish it, personally I'd say it's fine to move on. I think you just need more mileage, more attempts.
I recommend specifically studying ear placement, as well as the chin/neck/jaw and where they all sort of meet and how. Knowing the side of the face, where the ear sits and where the jaw begins will help you more than you believe with the whole face, even the eyes, nose and mouth.

I thought about it haha, you could demonstrate it better by adding a rubber like stretch effect around the forearm,
make it more bend on entire arm lenght.
right now only upper arm is stretched and sience its behind a figure it gives a bit confusion at first glance.

Unless the sky/water are meant to meld together for effect, maybe a bit more of an implied horizon to make it less abstract, like subtle hue or brightness shift, or some distant surface reflection coming to an abrupt end.

Yeah I think I have to go back to grinding studies there are lots of gaps in my knowledge
I've been drawing without doing any studies this entire year because I finally reached the point where I'm not instantly repulsed by the result and I can draw for fun and it was great and all but I'm starting to realize I'll be stuck in permabeg hell if I don't change something going forward.

Ohh ambitious very nice. Like seeing more than voids around these parts.
As for crit of the figures, I'd say that they feel a little weightless or contrived. For the bath, it doesn't feel as though her arms really supporting her torso.

For the second, The girl can have a lot more arching in the back. Think about gravity, if she's being supported from the crotch and the top of her head, everything between those want to go down. Here she maintains a neutral position which would take more effort than hanging around. The man should have his hips driving forward, almost as if leaving his legs and torso behind from the force.

There's lots of directions you can go in. I personally like the look of straight legs a lot.

I can't monetize my stuff, my thought process is too disperse. My "comics" are just stuff that comes to me on the spur of the moment and goes away in a few days (or hours lol). And the things that I want to draw are too niche and "cancellable". Too much crossing fetishes cancelling each other, like BDSM, damsel in distress, NTR, random comics?, furry?, simpsons?, monster grills?, weird shit?, even blaxxxplotation, out of that mess I would get maybe a couple of faithful patreons that won't hate me at the end, lol.
I did that piece above instead of doing the inktober one, and now I'm fried. So if I do the inktober one (I will) I have to leave the "daily" comic page from Gary's thread for tomorrow. I have 5 hours a day to draw whatever the fuck I want, and can't mismanage that. You can't keep that high level of artistic dopamine all day, you end up having SERIOUS mental breakdowns like many artists have. It's preferable to have a totally different easy going job to shut your mind and relax. Creative work is hard, when it goes beyond the playful recommended time it becomes soul crushing. That's nothing like doing any other "robotic-like" tasks, like installing and formatting Operative systems while you browse the web, or cleaning servers and building PCs, or doing basic maintenance. 60% of PC issues get fixed by spraying WD40 lol.
Trying to have an artistic career can be a deadly trap. If all you want is the freedom to draw whatever silly shit you want, my belief is that you have to "pay" for it, you have to finance your own artistic whim or desire. No one is going to pay you for drawing whatever random shit that comes across your mind forever, or at least it's getting harder and harder.

If you're wise with finances, you can draw for a living then use your free time to draw what you want (which you can either not upload so as not to ruin your career, or you can upload to an alt unconnected to you).
That's what I plan to do, anyways. I know that I'll probably have to draw furries, futas, and other things I would rather not, but of course I won't be drawing that 100% of the time. I'll be drawing beautiful works of art as well.

if you ask me there's nothing more based than an artist that embraces their depravity and funnels it into their art, especially if they become pro level just to draw their gross gooner shit. that's true artistry right there. hell look at r. crumb. he's a massive deranged sicko and one of the most beloved counter culture artists of modern times. just draw what you like and tell naysayers to fuck off

Daily slop. Gray from yesterday, green from today. Motivations dipped again, but not completely unsalvageable.
Artwise, I've been completely stagnant. I think I'm too afraid to take risks, I havnt even done anything besides sketches for months. My brush is holding me back, its fine for quick stuff but it cant handle anything in detail. Might honestly go back to using the default g-pen, might solve my commitment issues.

>>
>>8067322
I never said that; in fact, my message was directed at you (or at the "clapping seal" who wrote such nonsense). We should be objective about whether or not there is any evolution taking place. To be fair, I don’t see any major development—certainly not the kind you claim to see—but there is a normal level of progress. This implies that this anon, like everyone else here (provided they keep drawing), will reach whatever level their persistence in the subject allows them to attain. Finally, I believe your attitude regarding whether someone has "talent" or "the right rhythm"—and so on—is actually harmful to this community. We ought to focus on answering questions from those seeking guidance in a particular area, rather than fostering false hope or inflating participants' egos by comparing them to others and making unsubstantiated claims.

>>
>>8067357
Pfff, that’s my reality sometimes; it’s a matter of inertia. My solution is simple: just start drawing while cutting back on your exposure to "junk" content—games, videos, movies, and so on. Or, if that doesn’t work, I’ll spend a little time on those other things and then get back to drawing. The thing is, at first, drawing can be painful for a few days—until it starts to become enjoyable. At that point, it develops the same kind of inertia that those "time-wasters" had before. All you need is discipline and the ability to endure a bit of discomfort to master it.

I use two apps, Simple Time Tracker and Loop Habit Tracker. This has allowed me to spend more time reading books and drawing than procrastinating.
If that isn't enough, you should consider anti-procrastination apps such as Curbox, DetoxDroid, LeechBlock-ng, etc.

Cool work, but I think you're missing a lot of colors, like reds and blues. I'd suggest:
1.Make a gradient map of the colors you see. This is handy later when you learn about mixing colors on canvas, since you can see where each color goes.

2.Use the RGB sliders to mix and find the colors you need. Think in terms of RGB: does it need more blue or red? If you need yellow, that means you need to remove blue from the color.

3.At least try the first two exercises from How to See Color and Paint It.

a quick example, I'm bad at quick painting so take it as an example only.

In my everlasting quest for figuring out why my art looks so retarded, I decided to take the main color and shading that I normally use when drawing anime girls, and compare it to the main color and shading that artists I like use.
This was somewhat eye opening; I always used a more pinkish tone for my skin, and assumed shading must be blue-ish. But it seems a lot of artists I like tend to use a more yellowish skin tone, and rather red shading, for the most part.
I'll make sure to use this yellowish skin with red shading in my next drawing, and see if it looks closer to the works of these artists.

It's good that you are studying from other artists, but color is contextual, skin color should depend on the colors and lighting in your work. For instance if your bg has redish tones, then yelow skin shades will look really yellow as if the person has liver failure. And if you want to draw a person in sun light then you can go with orange skin. I'd advice first come up with rough colors for background and only then decide on skin shade. Also keep it on separate layer so you can easily change it in the later stages. I usually tweak skin color as one of the last steps.

>it selects everything again for some fucking reason
Why? Because it had a high threshold for some fucking reason.
>want to color only a portion of the lineart
>go to lineart layer and use contiguous selection tool
>it selects more than necessary for some fucking reason
Why? Because it has a high threshold and if the threshold is a single point too high while the line is too thin, it ignores the whole fucking line and selects everything.
>lower threshold
>try selecting again
>selects everything again
Why? Because there is one tiny gap between the two lines.
>increase close gap option in the tool
>it selects a tiny portion of the actual total portion between the two lines instead of the entire fucking portion
>finally get it to select the portion I want
>fill the portion with color
>it leaves a white outline between the lineart and the color for some fucking reason
Why? Because the threshold was too low. And don't you dare increase it too much either or I'll just ignore all the lineart. You need the exact perfect amount of threshold, no one point more nor one point less, because fuck you.

It is so fucking irksome. Compare this shit to the "fill without gap" tool in CSP. That shit is like magic in comparison to this.

I don't think they're that wobbly, but I draw with relatively low stability because Krita is shit and lags a lot if I increase the stroke stability.

God, this shit is so ass. Gave up at the end. Part of my soul shrivels in on itself whenever I see the final result. Its just really hard to think of shit and then implement it. Dialogue is really hard too, especially fitting it all in. I should probably do it with characters interacting in the same scene instead of floating heads.

They’re too complex for thumbnail sketches. Like go even simpler than you already are. You’re too focused on communicating like facial expressions, gesture, and things like that-focus on the IDEA of what you’re trying to draw, even if the drawings look bad- so that the final result can be better.

I posted my drawing in an art group and got completely ignored, not a single reaction, chat was dead silent and after my post people just immediately started discussing unrelated things like I got them to open chat but my work didn't register in their brains at all, they couldn't give less fucks.
And then 20 minutes later some guy posted simlpe chibi scribbles and got flooded with heart reactions and positive comments.
There's no point in improving technical skills, it's all autism propped up by high int, terminally low wis assburgers who historically flock to image boards. The only thing that matters in art is soul and the wast majority of people here including me are soulless golems with no spark.

That's a good point, thanks for the advice. Just asking, is it true that if I draw the skin with a base color, I could also match it to a background later with special layer filters or other color adjustments?

you should take more time and try to catch the shadows and shapes right. quick studies wont get you anywhere at your level. take your time. draw the shapes and angles correct, erase, redraw, till its close to correct. theres lots of reference points in that bale picture. try this slightly edited version where you can see the shapes a little more clearly in order to make measuring easier. dont draw stuff you dont see, draw it how it is.

Sometimes I imagine what would my progress be if I ever got a japanese mentor. And every time it's clear they would overly politely ask me to not waste their and my time and to not pursue art because I have no talent, no eye, no sense of style, aesthetic and appeal. For some reason it's only westerners who love to delude themselves with fairy tails of how hard work beats everything. Asians are very down to earth, realistic and red pilled in that regard, they know some people are born with brains to pick up art faster and better than others and a hard working average person can will never beat a talented one who bothers to put in at least some work.

Maybe if I have to autistically measure angles and sizes to draw something resembling a face after 3 years of drawing, while some 13 year old just wings it and makes perfect faces every time without even engaging consciously, maybe that means I just biologically don't have what it takes for art. It's always so red pilling seeing good artists childhood sketchbooks. Back when they never opened a single book, didn't study, didn't get a single art lesson yet. And still they never had to think twice where a line should be to convey perfect shapes. Everything comes naturally, like fish in water. They became good artists by 15 and then when they got to studies they progressed into a great one. People here think they can do the same without foundation. If they just study birds and wing movements hard enough and jump out of the window they will totes fly like birds.

Copying is a completely different thing from imagination drawing, even a monkey could be taught to draw a portrait from a reference. The measure of skill is whether you can draw a good looking head from imagination only. Humans are hard wired to notice the smallest issue in faces. Unless you have talent, faces from imagination will always have something off about them.

even if this was true we live in the time of instantly accessible references so it doesn't matter and everyone can talent fraud and 99% of twitter artists exclusively draw with references so it's already the standard. drawing from imagination is a useless skill with no real purpose in the modern era. just photobash your refs and copy, no one cares
>>
>>8068982
Anon is right. If it's as easy as being reference dependent, just be reference dependent. Every popular artist is already doing it, 3D models, tracing, paint overs, brush sets for hair and textures. Just do what they do and it won't matter.

Using references isn't idealess noise, just combine different references to get your idea across. 99% of artists you see who are doing this even ones who seem "original." They're just blending several references at once rather than drawing a fully original image.

>>
Where does this idea that you can't draw anything that doesn't have a 100% exact reference if you can't draw something 100% accurately from imagination? Most artists use references that are vaguely or closely similar to what they already want to draw, that they imagined in their minds. They already used their imagination. The references are to prevent mistakes from happening and avoid wasting time fixing mistakes.
Why do these people believe that artists only look for reference and then draw instead of imagining what they want to draw and then looking for references that closely match what they already imagined?
There's nothing new under the sun. Drawing completely from imagination won't make you special. It's an unnecessary burden, like drawing with your feet when you could have perfectly used your hands instead.

You're good at photo copy references. But can you draw literally anything without photo reference?
Can you make something unique? Can you change and rotate the pose? Can you change facial features, exaggerate expressions, change the clothes or hair style? Or is copying black and white photos the only thing you can do?
Anyone can get good at realistic photo reference drawings, but there's a reason it's such a niche avenue of drawing.

My opinion is that the appeal of this type of cock worship images and illustrations is that the woman tends to have a strong emotion. Typically the female is either completely ecstatic and happy, or very shy and embarrassed, or extremely furious and crying, or utterly tired and exhausted.
Your drawing has the woman completely emotionless, maybe somewhat surprised, and thus it isn't very appealing.

I mean, how many hours in total have you put into rendering in all of your time drawing? Spending 8 hours on a piece you're not satisfied with sounds about right if you only have 100 or so hours of painting/rendering experience in total. Regardless, the first and major thing I'd like to suggest is putting more contrast between light areas and dark areas. It doesn't have to be a crazy amount.

Secondly, I think you may need to take a break for a few hours (or even coming back to it tomorrow) so you can get a fresher perspective on what does and doesn't make sense with the lighting. Her right calf should probably be getting at least a little bit of rim lighting, the shadow on her left thigh could probably use some midtones to give it roundness, her breasts seem to be receiving light from the top left whereas her arms and legs are getting lit from somewhere on the right, and her right breast should probably be a little darker than the left one since it's a bit further from the light. Things like that you only really notice once you look at something after not looking at it for a few hours. I personally draw for about an hour, two at most, and then take a 15 to 20 minute break, then repeat. And if something's not working out, take an hour long break or come back tomorrow.

it keeps getting sloppier and sloppier. Do I even have the will to draw? 7 hours of freetime, less than 20 mins of actual drawing. People do these little figs as warmups, not the only thing they ever do. Whats worse is that I cant do them from imagination; I should be able to shit these out gatling style but I cant. I'm half convinced its a mental block.

Yes, they serve many functions in an artist's creative process. What do these "warm-up exercises" mean to you? If they don't hold any meaning for you, then doing them won't make sense either; your brain might simply perceive them as a waste of time.

Drawing from imagination is something we are all capable of, don't you think? Unless someone has suffered a serious injury, I don't believe there are people who are truly incapable of imagining. Imagination is, at its core, a form of prediction—a way to test something out before committing to it. Wasn't imagination a survival tool at the dawn of humanity? Planning anything requires the use of imagination; therefore, the problem might not be imagination itself.

Perhaps you lack a solid, compelling mental model of the human figure that would allow you to draw quickly from your imagination; or maybe you lack the training needed to strip away details and capture the essence of things; or, quite simply, your expectations might not align with your current skill level.

>if I manage to muster up the will to do them
Of course you can! You just have to compel your brain to do it—since it currently views the task as a waste of time (or perhaps it would rather go play, watch a movie, etc.). It’s much like going to school, doing homework, or heading off to work on a cold, rainy Monday morning; your brain has already grown accustomed to "suffering" through those kinds of situations.

Don't rush it. Try to do everything the book tells you and assemble the proper rig for each project if you're not already doing so. The color spotter is incredibly useful. A round soft brush works well with the book. Keep going.

>>8069398
incredible progress anon keep going

>>8069405
You're doing fine. With time and mileage, everything else will come by itself. You're making steady progress. Maybe a self assessment of what you're practicing and how, would help, but don't be selfloathing.

anime pin-up girls? what is your goal, i dont understand? money? you want money with art? are you stupid? a sewer worker eans more than your average artist lol.
>>8069039
>but there's a reason it's such a niche avenue of drawing.
portraits are of a higher value than any of your pin-ups or desk jobs as artist. 500$ up to several thousands a piece is not uncommon. even other trad art sells more than your digital doodles. what is your goal? praise? merit, money? tell me.

This was my progress after 1 year of drawing. It's an old study from 2023. I don't think I ever did portrait copies after that. I'm not gonna pretend I mog you, your 2026 work is stronger but it's not the point. Skill to copy references mostly does not transfer to imagination drawings. Training to be a xerox, seeing angles, relative sizes and values in the corners of nostrils is a separate thing from being able to pull a simplified but convincing head shape from imagination at any angle. Back then I trained mostly precision and could copy core angles and outlines of the portrait from reference with 90%+ accuracy in first try. But when I tried to construct head from imagination my mind was completely blank. Only after I stopped thinking like a xerox and studied heads differently and did a lot of dogshit imagination drawings I could even begin to draw something resembling a head without a reference.

I'm not great at it yet myself (see >>8069067 )
but it honestly seems like the most important parts are the simplest and most obvious. Getting the right areas lit and with the right balance of soft and sharp edges seems to be like 50% or more of the battle, and those are exactly the two things I see the most inconsistencies with in your piece. I have some tips that I've picked up so far that seem to be working though, but keep in mind that I'm still an amateur like the majority of people here, so do your research and watch videos on all of these topics I'm touching on so you can internalize the advices from an actual professional.

First would be to familiarize yourself with the different types of lights and shadows and how they look and feel. Occlusion shadows, core shadows, terminators, cast shadows, bounced light, highlights, etc. Things like how occlusion shadows happen in areas where surfaces touch and light has trouble reaching and are usually very dark, how the terminator line is often times darker than the core shadow itself, things like that. Bounced light is often very useful for realism from what I've observed, but you have to make sure that it makes sense, like red ambient light if the subject is in a red environment, or a soft and very light blue light if the subject is out during the day, things like that. Another cool thing that can look very good is subsurface scattering, but I have a lot of trouble with selecting the right colors and values for that myself so I can't really give you any advice in good conscience, but feel free to look into it after you've gotten a good grasp on the rest.
>>
>>8069747
But I imagine this is the case if your account isn't already tagged as NSFW, right?

>how’s this coming along?

It's very stiff. Why is she holding that ball object under hand as if she were curling weights? I feel like she would be holding it as if it were a lantern.

The cloth looks especially stif near the crotch area, you should try more of a 'c' curve to smooth out that janky area.

The lighting is kind of all over the place and I'd recommend that your brush strokes follow the foorm more near the legs so it can emphasize what direction they're going. Also the fog magically not touching the shoulder armor is a little unsettling. Work on the knee armor more it's design is too simplistic. What you did with the torso armor is good because those leading lines emphasize the form . Also really measure and nail the thing on the back to make it look more professional, it's a bit wonky and I don't think the grey straps would look like that.

Lastly the helmet hair, maybe let the hair flow with the wind to make it more lively. I like the vibe though she seems strong and determined and your precise shading on the face really helps that mood shine through, this piece has great potential hope you finish it.
