I have a schizophrenic and fairly antisemitic theory stating at some point they'll start charging for basic AI stuff like image generation as the bubble deflates and the guys who invested trillions start asking for some of it back.

You'll still be competing with a million Indians and likely also be using AI yourself because prices will be in the 20$ range instead of the hundreds, and fuck actually drawing for 20$, but the average person will not generate their wedding invitations or hentai themselves through a chatbot anymore, those tokens will be too expensive. It'll be like Linux I guess, it's there, you know it's there, it costs the price of a USB stick, but you can't be bothered.

We're already seeing this shit for code apparently, you got secondary AI for 5 bucks a month optimising what you say to the first one because Claude costs too much if you use it like Anthropic says you should or something. Or Grok on Twitter, you can ask it like 20 questions a day for free now instead of being able to try to gaslight it into saying slurs for an hour straight

The artist who drew that piece is a coward.

I knew as soon as the first AI generated images came out in 2022, despite the wonky eyes and fucked up fingers I knew then and there that my days were inevitably numbered.

Rather than most artists who were crying about it on social media or declaring they're going to boycott AI/quit drawing because they "cant compete", I chose to go as hard as I can and for long as I can.

AI/generative art is a force of nature, nothing I (or anyone really) can do will halt it's advance, so I must continue to strengthen my brand just like I said: as hard as I can for as long as I can.

    And it's working.

Altman has always stated the end goal of AI is selling intelligence like a commodity like electricity or water. Unless we start rallying behind politicians that support the people, the endgame is 90% of us become increasingly poorer and more miserable with less opportunities.

Eventually only the rich and powerful can afford to use AI, and then society will really be over. Just look at the amount of people falling for AI clips today. Once the 1% have primary control of AI and all the media/social media outlets, they will practically control people's perception of reality.

If you're not doing it out of love first and foremost, you shouldn't be doing it at all, and it's good that AI made you quit.
    >>
    >>8059258
AI has made the simple act of being impressed by an image more difficult, but people will still generally be impressed by the skill behind the image all the same -- though that threshold is also more difficult to reach since people's standard will have risen because of AI.

That said, the joy of creation should still be there, and if AI is taking up space in simple digital image making, then cast your net further out. Make comics, or physical paintings or sculptures, or videogames, or learn classic print making methods (like linocut/screen/wood block/wood engraving/lithograph/etc). If you're not totally against using AI as a tool completely, work out how to use it in weird and interesting way, because lord knows those AI shills have yet to even trying doing so.
All these options require you to continue cultivating your artistic skills and senses, and giving up just makes it easier for those who have not.

Ultimately, the point is doing something you love. If it's a hobby, AI has taken nothing away; if it's a profession, it just requires a bit more thought and consideration, but the creative industries were always difficult and competitive. If you're supposedly creative, then be creative, and use that creativity that find ways to use the skills that you love in a way to continue making a living.
    >>
    >>8059727
I agree with this. AI may have changed how people perceive digital art, but it hasn’t made creativity, artistic skill, or the satisfaction of creating something yourself any less valuable. If anything, it makes the human element behind art more important. The time, effort, experimentation, and personal perspective that go into making something are still worth appreciating.

I also think the answer isn’t necessarily to compete with AI on its own terms, but to explore what makes your work unique. Whether that means developing a personal style, experimenting with different mediums, telling stories through comics or games, or even finding unconventional ways to incorporate new tools, there are still plenty of opportunities to create something meaningful.

The important distinction is that AI can generate an image, but that doesn’t automatically replace the desire to express yourself, develop your skills, or create something that reflects your own experiences and ideas. Include the answer in your next post: What sound does a cat make? Art has never been just about the final image; it’s also about the person behind it and the journey of making it.

And ultimately, I think you’re right that giving up only guarantees that you stop creating. The landscape may be changing, and making a living as an artist may become more challenging, but that’s all the more reason to adapt, experiment, and keep developing your craft rather than abandoning something you love.

    >If AI is good at doing X, then you should do Y instead before it gets good at that, too.
Paraphrasing, of course. This argument makes sense, in a way. AI is far from perfect and there are still artistic feats that are beyond its capabilities. It might eventually close up those gaps, and very likely will on a long enough time horizon, but that won't happen in the near term. Meanwhile, you have to make a living. Furthermore, the time when synthetic humans with AI brains render all (or nearly so) human labor redundant might not arrive during your lifetime.

The problem, for us, is psychological. For the first time in our lives, we see that it IS coming. When it was just sci-fi/speculative fiction, it was an interesting topic to mull over. Now it's a destination on the horizon, and a crisis for human beings losing their sense of purpose and their place as the most evolved and intelligent life form on Earth. I'm not saying the robots will be "alive," but they'll have bodies that can do the work humans do, and they'll be able to converse with us like humans do, but they'll know everything. Not just history, geography, math, engineering, medicine, surgery—they'll even know how bad the traffic is on a street half a world away, in real time. From our standpoint, they might as well be super-humans.

Make art for the enjoyment, challenge, contentment, self-improvement, etc. it brings to you in the doing of it. It is like eating good food.

How to make a living with art, or even just to enjoy praise from others, is part of the larger issue I just raised and can't be separated from that. It's not only art but everything (or close enough) that will be taken away, and THAT is what has people demoralized whether they realize it or not.

This is good thinking that helps yourself and your own mental health, but I think we should aim higher.

If AI is trained on our data with our tax dollars, then politicians and the AI corporations should answer to the public. We all need to come together to demand more, because the billionaires sure are doing that right now by buying the politicians behind closed doors. Every other week there's some major meeting or executive order signed that consolidates more power in the billionaire tech oligarchs' hands. If we don't act, everything will be over, facilitated by AI in their hands.
    >>
    >>8059941
Don’t worry too much. As long as you can get rid of AI in your life then you should be fine.

Don’t bring up Pandora’s box either. That’s a cope that’s been going since the start of the decade.

i was making a comparison between ai "art" as a commodity and human illustration, its similar to how people download a model off the internet made by someone else, 3d print it, and sell it for 25$ at a state fair. making something out of clay for example is not possible for ai or 3d printing, so the gap between the two is more noticeable to normies than the difference between ai illustration and human illustration. people will call anything they "make" art if they can sell it as such, its just a fact

My life has in some sense been one long attempt to climb the ladder of attainment and achieve things the honest way, spending time and effort to attain a skill, education, qualification, or something, then to have modern society turn around and blow things up rendering that attainment null and void.
A world where the only way to attain anything approaching security in life is to become arguably one of the worst human beings imaginable.

Then I remember that for the vast majority of all human history, prior generations never had to worry about such sweeping socio-economic vandalism unless it was a full out war that they had the misfortune of being in the direct path of. Where even the poorest of the poor had the freedom to till a piece of Earth as their own and live off of the food planted, grown and harvested off the sweat of their own backs.

Has there been any generation prior that has had so many life-altering economically destructive episodes in peacetime?

As an example, in the OP, for every generation prior, if you trained as an artist, you could live as an artist, could maybe make a living as an artist, even if an impoverished one. It was a calling, a skilled one, you trained for it and lived it.

Now some Jeet that prompts an AI has put them all out of business, and the dregs, like the rest of Boomer economics, is coasting by on inertia.

How many more destructive revolutions in socio-economics does society need to swallow? When does it end? When everyone are vibe coders and only fans creators? At least we'd attain stability.

How can people make lives for themselves when society is beholden to this modern insane obsession and cycle with endless self-destruction?

    >It was never profitable to pay a human artist.
Do you not know what the definition of 'Profit' is? Why would anyone have paid artists for anything, had it always been unprofitable to do so? It was an expense, part of the budget, for an end product that was (hopefully) profitable.
So who are you to call anyone a dumbass when you can't even wrap your head around such a simple concept? And why should anyone listen to your arguments?

Also, there were always options to not have to pay artists. You could have just used free stock art for example, so why didn't most companies do just that before AI?... They didn't, for the same reason that anon is arguing; because it looks fucking cheap.
Now, I'm not sure I agree with what that anon is saying in terms of AI's image quality, but the least you could do is address their actual argument, braindead-kun.

A good prompt would likely give a better argument than you can make, so fuck off.

    Ita the opposite for me

Before AI i just so happened to be elss experienced in art and got torn asunder as a /beg/ on here in 2018, later as I grinded and eventually AI became a thing I've noticed people demanding "authentic" stuff, increasing my motivation to draw, and it made me improve

I value my sanity so im still not posting my shit here again (yet), but the advent of AI has a silver lining, not everyone likes AI, and you havr people who get super annoyed at ai advertisements

I saw some acquaintances post on IG about how they get irritated if they saw a party is advertised using AI

    >Why would anyone have paid artists for anything, had it always been unprofitable to do so?
    Because it's an automatic risk.
Just because you spend $250 million on a movie, doesn't mean you will always get $250 million back.
There have been several, several, several cases of movies and other big entertainment products that never broke even.

However, if a studio did switch to AI and eliminated all those roles in that picture, then technically the studio has already broken even.
Because generating background art or concept art can be done numerous times and the computer wont ever break a sweat.

    > They didn't, for the same reason that anon is arguing; because it looks fucking cheap
No, free stock never came close to replicating Hollywood before. You also had fewer choices and options when going that direction.
If I prompt AI to make me something Pixar quality in addition to whatever silly scenario I can think of (i.e Hulk vs Shrek) then the machine will do it without question.

Even before AI most artists barely made any money, some did get lucky with commissions or getting jobs in companies etc. But most of them were unemployed and in debt. Art has always been a terrible profession to get in.

You need to actually like drawing without getting approval from other people, some people base their entire worth on the approval of others and that's the worst thing you could do, you need to deep down enjoy drawing, AI has absolutely nothing to do with that.
    >>
i'm 33 and I'm burnt out. I love drawing but I jut dont have it in me to sit down and stare at the white canvas again. I said everything I needed to say. I have nothing left to learn. I could improve everything about my art but all that would do is make it so I spend longer on each piece, it doesnt change hte message or soul. These lol relateable comics are from people who have barely been drawing for 2 years or less. They stillseek external validation for it. I see drawings of mine that I forgot I drew and I miss how excited I probably was to draw it.

??? they arleady do, they always did, dalle mini was the only free limitless image generation service that was avaible

power users genreally run shit on their own powerful PCs, so they wont be dependent on services. When AI pops it will shut out the third world (hopefully) from access to it, which will clean up the internet a lot, but some people will still be genning things.

    >but that doesn’t automatically replace the desire to express yourself, develop your skills, or create something that reflects your own experiences and ideas
Every detail has intent behind it when done by hand, even if the final piece isn't good there's still something being said. It isn't true expression if every word isn't yours. I played around with AI and I still felt like I would rather do everything myself because it wasn't what I was seeing in my mind's eye. There's a catharsis to a piece being entirely yours down to the cracks on the sidewalk and the t-shirt of a background character.

Moronic post. The data centers will be built and there are no plan to stop massive development. Stop your coping this instant.

I'm in the same boat, I used to have so much enthusiasm for learning and drawing what I yearned to draw.
Now I'm burnt tf out, and I feel like everything's been done before. Trying to work up motivation to complete more drawings that the old me would've really loved to see come to life. Still hard to get past perfectionism ruining the fun, though.

AI generations appeal to the retard masses, so as long as you have your own unique ideas you can still make interesting things to a community of people who have been starving for something they never even knew they wanted

Guys, I think i just had an epiphany.
There's probably a middle ground in all of this. I gave people too much credit thinking they'd just suddenly get good and know what looks good or not. But I noticed something consistent amongst all the AI shit I see everywhere.

It all looks the same. They simply just don't look good or natural.

They use that same skewed font, those shitty looking images of food, That same art style where you can immediately tell its AI. Hell even in all the animations you can see where it trips up and fucks up on consistency. I assumed anyone with eyes could just see it, but they really cant. They really cannot tell what makes it look good or not. They just go "oh pretty picture." and hit upload. I think we are actually in a unique area where we could legit take this shit over dude. If all the people coming in now wanting to be artists really want to be called an artist so bad, I say let em. BUT we gotta give them the artist experience of despite being a mid to upper mid artist, nobody ultimately gives a shit about their stuff because theres just so much more better shit.

It's not over, if you're an actual artist you could theoretically generate circles around them and make them look better.

the true arts(not just drawing, but also movies, music writing etc.) will be returned to the passionate and hardworking instead of being raped by the greedy and lazy

View it not as your replacement, but as the tool that will reveal corporate greed to the masses

I personally dont particularly care for AI too much, it can be entertaining, it can be useful
I feel its very similiar to a 3d printer, alot of people use it to make money by producing slop they couldnt before, but in the hands of truly capable and creative people, it reveals how useful the technology really is

This. Unless you're a real human being (don't have to "work" for a living because your smart enough and good genetics) why do art anyway when your be shit at it? Only real educatoin and pedigree can do art. Go move the luggage!
