Guys what features should a frame by frame video player have besides the basics? All the ones on Android are buggy and thus I can't reliably jump between frames and I can't carry my pc every to use keyframe mP so I have decided to just vibecode my own app to be specialized for my needs.

i'd say the ability to change video speeds but via frame rates rather than the generic x0.25 x0.5 x0.75 x2
that and manually jumping 1 frame front or back

I give up, drawing with vectors is hard as shit.
What else can I do to make my drawings look smooth? When I try to draw on a raster layer my lines come up a jittery and squiggly.
    >>
    >>8042142
anon-san the quality you describing as "smooth" is just a highrez drawing with anti-aliasing
its the merge thing pixels do to obsecure the inherent limitation of square grid screens by reserving ~1-2 pixel threshold around hard color changes with a mix/merge of the two colors
The higher the resolution of the image the smoother/more seamless the transition from one color to another
i'd reccommend doubling your current project resolution it should ease some of that jittering
also use a brush with anti-aliasing preset but beware it will maket bucket tool coloring a real pain
i'd reccomend watching the dong chang channel's breakdown of anime compositing.
tldr of the japanese method is they use brushes without anti-aliasing and do the coloring in that state.
Then they add the anti-aliasing in post via smoothing filters to achieve that finished smooth look
ultimately it all comes down to File resolution
high rez = more space to obsecure color merge hence crispier lines
lower rez = less space hence choppier/jarring lines

I may have never animated anything before but I know even less about Blender. What I'm thinking of is using every excuse to avoid having to draw him in full body poses with his full equipment. So, I'll include a bunch of skewed angles, scenes from the past with regular clothes, and also keep the camera away whenever he is sprinting so that the protagonist can both look faster and less detailed. He also broods a lot so I can just draw him standing there doing nothing and it fits his character.

Hey Kott, I was listening to this song and I had to do your girl dancing to it, of course she dances infinitely better in my head lol, but I had to do a quickie with her. I wanted her to move her sexy ass too, but, it was going to be at least twice the amount of time and effort (even when doing it as simple and crude as this), so her swinging ass will stay in my head xD.

Am I crazy as an animator for being excited to see AI being used like this?
    https://x.com/knightama/status/2103574269133468003

This to me feels like what the movie Klaus did, where the entire movie was handdrawn 2d animation, but they created a program that could apply shadowing to a frame when you manually put in the right calculations for where it should be. They applied shadowing that way for every frame of animation, and it created consistent and detailed shadowing that would simply not have been possible to do by hand without the process taking 10 years. Using AI in this way, feels like an automated way of doing what SPA Studios did with shadowing in Klaus.

If this was refined and made mainstream, it could mean SO much time and money that would usually be spent on outsourcing work to Indians and Koreans would be saved from the budget of 2d animation. Not only that, indie animators would be able to make much longer animations by themselves without needing to rely on investor demands to afford outsourcing.

    >>
    >>8050806
Aside from the AI post still having that gross uncanny feeling and how I don't want to look at it long enough to see what extra shit it's doing to cause that, while earlier on I myself suggested that something like this might be useful (although in far more limited form) diffusion as a concept feels like a dead end to me.

I think something closer to a 'digital robot' (I'm no /g/fag I don't know proper the terms) would be more the direction I'd prefer to see. Where it's something that can navigate a canvas or timeline with limited output ability, using the fill tool to colour things based on a model sheet. An auto clicker with a guidance system.
    >>
    >>8050811
these two are not comparing the same frame
    >>
    >>8048399
I agree. Why go for a director anyway? Usually the best worker is not the director but some grunt/low-ranking manager, that's just how it is, you don't ask the owner of a coal mining business about how to mine coal properly. Somebody can be really exceptional manager and still lack knowledge about the actual work, which is what you want when you study animation. I know that he was a grunt at some point as well but he did not become famous thanks to being the best animator around

My biggest issue with AI isn't that the results look like shit, it's that the users are retarded and I don't trust them. they regularly leave abhorrent bullshit and glaring errors in that not only any human artist would have fixed or not made in the first place, but the model itself would probably fix if you told it to and gave it ten minutes and maybe five extra bucks in tokens.

Take the other weekly AI slop with the umbrella guy https://x.com/antrofrog_/status/2103854300799565967

most of the problems stem from the prompter being an illiterate ape with no soul or whimsy. He's using a model smart enough to have object permanence, not switch artstyles every four seconds, give the guy a third arm for no reason and such, and he could either fix all the bullshit still going on in the video in a few extra passes or work around it by changing shots for ones AI is capable of the same way a horror movie uses camera trick to hide the fact the monster looks like shit but this orangutan just ships this as is and hopes you're also too stupid to notice.

The sameway codefags have to write compilers despite nobody having needed to write a compiler himself since the 80s just to have an idea how computers actually work, I believe any AI artist who hasn't spent a few months drawing walk cycles and basic shit and looks for a job needs to be shot, skinned and sodomized in any order the animation director sees fit.

But if you start putting AI in stuff to "lower budgets" the unsodomized will unfortunately start getting jobs and fuck everything up. Even for indie shit, they'll saturate the market with slop. Take those fruit brainrots, I'm sure some of them are watchable because the guy spent ten minutes to write a plot instead of being a literal slave in a mauritanian content farm but nobody's watching all the slop just to get to his.

That is a very fair take and I agree, I also don't want AI ran by people who don't know shit about art and drawing taking over the animation industry. What I really want is for people who do know how to draw and animate, to be able to utilize AI for the things that's holding them back from making larger projects. I think training an AI on your own art and to follow your handdrawn keyframes and to perhaps also use colored and shaded keyframes as guides for it to color and shade the rest of the animation, would ethically and aesthetically be the best possible use of AI to streamline the creation process and cut down on the need for outsourcing such tasks.

My fear however, is that due to the widespread fear and disdain for AI usage in the west... the east is going to be the ones experimenting the most effective AI usage for animation. If the west aren't the first ones to set the standard for efficient and arguably ethical use of AI to make popular 2d animated movies and television shows, then those standards might instead be set by Japan/China/Korea who cares much less about ethical usage and more about efficient usage. Basically if we refuse to use AI because we don't want AI slop to dominate the market, then I think the Eastern countries will use AI slop to dominate the market on their terms and we will have to start copying what they're doing or we won't be able to compete with them.

    >>
    >>8052260
    >like t fuck you mean there is only one layer in the timrlinr
Feels like this is a very rudimentary mistake with animation programs that try to be intuitive for beginners. Base Procreate's animation tool drives me insane for the same reason
    >>
    >>8052291
I'm not trying to advertise AI, I don't even particularly like using AI in its current state because I think it's too limited (and quite frankly I don't think it's as fun to write prompts as it is to draw shit).

I just wanted to discuss the potential of AI in a near future being used to solve a longstanding problem in the 2d animation industry, which is the fact that shading/coloring/cleanup/inbetweens is extremely time consuming low-skill work. It's why Disney and Dreamworks abandoned 2d animation in favor of 3d, and outsourcing this kind of work is why indie animators can't make larger projects by themselves without needing an investor which comes with strings attached. I also fear that if western companies don't set the standard for efficient use of AI to make 2d animation cheaper while still maintaining the human element of keyframing and storyboarding etc... then the standard for AI usage for animation might instead be set by China/Korea/Japan which are much less concerned with ethics and much more focused on efficiency.

    >these niggers are insecure about the ai bubble popping
Quite the contrary, I think it will be great when the AI bubble pops because then companies will stop trying to force AI where it makes no fucking sense and making AI look retarded because it's not a magical fix all. It will then more appropriately be applied well in the areas it can actually be used efficiently and to help people achieve things that wasn't possible to do before. The Dot.Com bubble is a good example. Not every single website ever created is profitable and worth investing in or even has any good reason to exist, but that doesn't mean ALL websites are worthless.

making any animation longer than 24 frames requires the 300 dollar version of csp
for that reason alone krita mogs

I'm not completely against animation programs being paid, developers have to eat too after all. I just don't like when they're really fucking expensive, or on a subscription model. I also can't even comprehend the idea of selling a program that locks basic functionality behind an additional payment barrier. Guys, i draw comics, i'm not interested in animation. Would be nightmare for my ego. I often see animation frames and they are such great illustration, such a shame they only seen for a split second.
I love the clean style, little line variation, little hatching, eyes and hair is drawn differently compared to manga. Manga is less clean most of the time.
But i want to learn some of the anime (like anime key frames not pixiv anime) style to implement in my manga.
Is it just experience, do you have to animate to learn that, or what can i do?

I'm having a very hard time finding experiences of people who've used it online - I suppose partially so because it came out quite recently, but still 3 months should be enough for at least a little bit of organic internet traffic on the topic for a software of this kind, right?

How often will you guys catch an error on a single frame and say "fuck it" and not bother to fix it? I'm well past my perfectionist phase at this point to the point where if I notice a minor error only after scrubbing through the same frames a million times I won't bother addressing it since theres a 99.9% chance no one will catch it regardless. I can't be bothered anymore, this hobby already asks so much patience of a man.
    >>
    >>8058274
I tend to skip any errors when the final product is basically finished, and those usually tend to be minor hiccups rather than gaping blemishes
    >>
    >>8058274
    depends what kind of error,
if it's a scraggly line i don't bother but if it's egregious like a leg disappearing for a frame or a weird movement i'll always fix

Welp, I'll let ya'll in on a secret.
If you ever want your animations to give off vibes from the decade you were born here's one way that kinda worked for me, though it's gonna sound a bit extreme:

Animate the entire thing naked (for the most part.)

I'm serious, dont even wear glasses, etc.
    >Why?
Because you were born in that decade, meaning you didn't have clothes yet, so it's like you're returning to those roots, more or less (in my opinion).
You could also do it in the company of someone older than you who was around in that decade instead, but I found the former method to be just as effective if not more.

With that said here's a remake of an old Richard Williams animation I made last year.
    Cheers.

Realistically you don't. Go make some porn or something, I have never seen a happy American animator, that ship has sailed in 90s-early 00s. In the optimistic scenario where you do find a job you still end up a corpo-slave with mediocre pay, terrible working conditions and no stability whatsoever. Besides, you can see by the works in the thread that there's no industry animators around
    >>
    >>8062501
I think you just have to post online enough until someone likes you enough to comission work of you for their studio or you cold do porn a do round about route to that. I tried looking for animation jobs overseas and anything remote still requires you living near office so its practically impossible. And that's not mentioning that you're not just competing with their domestic talent and interns but also the best of the world and if you do get hired you're then a visa slave. If you're fortunate enough to be born in america though and really want to work in the industry just bite the bullet and go to LA or you can try one of those texas cheap not anime studios I guess. I think the French and Canadians probably have the best luck in terms of being born somewhere with jobs

I think square is better, or at least easier for composition in most case since it lets you have an upright character be fully in frame while taking up most of the screen while standard video rectangle can leave a lot of extra space on the sides.
Although maybe for the top one you should try having her head and mirror on the upper rule of thirds line rather the center line by having it zoomed in more or drawing them further up.

I assume it's 2s, so I would advise to change the frames in the middle to 1s to make it look like he is accelerating during the spin. Right now there's overly strong acceleration in the last half, while the actual spin is very slow

I would like to make at least one episode of pic related, although I would like to do several. It would be a lot of work. It's a comedy I thought up.

being associated with india is like digital mega AIDs never making that mistake again frfr
now i wonder just how much more progress i could've gained had i done this right from the start

    yes unironically
the xitter algorhythm segregates content by ip address and the majority of indian users are poltic-brained retards with nary a speck of appreciation for the arts
(especially after indian government forced all nsfw behind the paywall)
so i gotta boot into the ameri-japanese noosphere to get any enlightened folk to look at my output
its never quite as simple as post stuff = get famous
from where and when you post also plays a big role in gaining a following
think like how pewsiepie got a leg up by moving from country to country during his career boosting his reach across different ip ranges
the invisible hands of the market are quite visible actually

    nice animation too
    >>
    >>8067554
thank you, but seriously, i gotta ask, are you formally trained? the motions in your work are fluid and your backgrounds feel fleashed out and grounded. how long on average do you take? and do you have any socials? also welcome to /ic/ =)
    >>
    >>8067640
    >formally trained

lmao I wish, I did take on art classes during middle school, but for the most part, I was self-taught on animating characters, still a pain in le culo to draw people that don't look wonky as hell, but Paint's pixel-heavy nature is more easy to maneuver.

also arquitecture being a hobby defo did help in the background work

    >>8067402
