No, they're not magnets or infohashes; they're just plain old URLs that have been encoded. We're doing this to keep bots and scripts from recognizing them as URLs and harvesting/reporting them. The recap posts at the top of the threads have GIFs or WEBMs explaining how to use them. Also, some of the encoded links *may* have multiple layers - like ogres ... or onions! You might have to "peel" them more than once to get to the good part.

On the topic from last thread about how annas archive and such compresses books. They never used to do that, I'd get high quality uncompressed books from annas, etc but I think maybe around last year or so books started to become horribly compressed (could this possibly be to prevent ai scrappers or to poison data?). 99% of books with pictures are garbage quality now unfortunately. Is there a place we can upload books (that isn't links that expire/get taken down) that won't compress them? I've even had the compression issue with zlibrary and libgen.

They seem to think that anime is just simplified cartooning with a coat of fine art on top, but they happen to be much more skilled than the west so people still get confused thinking that it's somehow more anime.
It's insane that skill itself is somehow not enough to get into legit anime for most people.
    >>8040867
But anon used Japanese words in his post, showing familiarity with online Japanese learner circles meme culture, thus showing his desire to draw anime. It's kinda useless to learn from someone who cannot draw the thing, no?

    >>8040891
I mean that film bros can't actually write well. For them it's all either about pushing their own worldview or about trying to connect things to some vague oversimplified system like "hero's journey" or their own pet theory instead of mastering writing fundamentals like development of theme, mood, characterization, etc.
If you want to learn writing in current year your best bet is to learn Japanese and analyze the best JP writers' work (not kidding with this at all).
    >>
    >>8040859
It's not books just released in the past year, its books from before ai got its footing getting compressed too. I am worried because I used to get hq books no problem and now all of a sudden I have to dig around to find a good copy. And sometimes the only copy available of an expensive book is compressed and basically unusable.
    >>
    >>8040896
There's got to be a better plan than spending a decade learning another language just to START analyzing stories.
    >>
    >>8040896
    >(not kidding with this at all)
    Yes, you are.
    >>
    >>8040906
Sadly there is not. It's basically a necessity if you want to get to a good level in current year.
You can do a lot with it even within ~2 years of learning depending on your speed. It's not as hard as people make it out to be here and doesn't require any intelligence (analyzing stories is much much harder). If you're serious about writing it's just going to keep paying off in the long run.
Anyone who is interested in writing and even somewhat adjacent to JP media and doesn't learn the language always keeps paying the price, it's like a permanent debuff to what you can do.

    >>8040911
Nope. Just like with art, Japan has the best living writers and funnily for very similar mutually dependent reasons. Not a whole lot you guys can do about that.
    >>
    >>8040896
    >analyze the best JP writers' work
Who? Murakami? Do you really think that much is lost in translation?
    >>
    >>8040926
Don't want to derail it and make it about tastes because I know how people here tend to be, I mean the most skilled otaku media writers generally, though there are definitely a lot of older JP writers who are very good too.
If they were extremely good translations it would be less of an issue, but anything that isn't super plot focused tanks very hard in quality when translated poorly to the point you're barely reading the same work.
    >>
    >>8040935
    >a lot of older JP writers who are very good too
    like who? name 10
    >>
    >>8040896
to be fair writing from the fundamentals is like trying to step on air, fair game to normies not engaging with that.
    >WHAT!!! B-BUT!!!????
    i really think this.
    >>
    >>8040935
This is a strange troll. Anyways, here's a serious response.
I thought the point of >>8040896 was about learning Japanese-style plottings and transplanting them to works in English or your native language. In that case, wordplays, word choices, artful syntax, that can't really be translated are irrelevant. Reading translations are enough.

Btw if you see /pro/ JP writer's recommendations, they will list gaijin books: Robert McKee, Syd Field, Save the Cat, and so on. Even K. M. Weiland. All those meme books are translated and sell well on amazon.co.jp.

Often you can just change the 'x' to a '-' (so exhentai to e-hentai) and it'll work. Of course, there are certain galleries where it's inaccessible from e-hentai, with that gallery being one of them, unfortunately.
But if you see an exhentai gallery, try changing it e-hentai, I found it works more often than not.

I like to keep all the links - even the dead ones - in there, specifically because if you're looking for a given book, the fact that it shows up in the recap file means that somebody here had it at one point, at least, and, after I started adding the dates for the OPs, *when* the book was floating around.

    Hi, resident retard here.

Is there a recommended beginner anime book like there is with, "fun with a pencil"
Or for starting is it recommended just to draw from reference from anime/manga I like.

    >drawing old men will continue until morale improves
    >>
    >>8059023
Good anime books for beginners are harder to come by. Most assume you have a good foundation of copying your favorite manga/anime. The interviews from mangaka I've read say that's how they started. So copy any anime artbook or sketchbook you like. Plenty to choose from on E-Hentai.
As for actual instructional book recommendations, I like Date Naoto - The Complete Guide to Drawing Manga & Anime, has lots of good advice.
And the Sketching Manga-Style series, learning to sketch your own ideas is a lot different to just copying.
    >>
    >>8059023
Most high detailed manga/anime artist Kentro, Takehiko, Makoto etc learn art from life first, then do "anime" style drawing. But thats only if you want to be on that level. then you have artist like One (one punch man), just doing it or the love of the game. I prefer Bridgman.

    >>
    >>8059023
No, anime is not as form based as French Academic Realism. You need to study shapes, and lines. And most important you need to study different angels extra. You can't really turn the form like a loomis head, you need to learn different proportions for different angels.

Very, very nice material to study are Key Frame Anime Books. As the show you the raw lines, without shading and effects.
You can find such books if you search for "Anime Name" Groundwork.
    Pic related.
    >>

Oh come on. Learn basic anime Japanese. Again, please larp better.
    >>
    >>8059814
    >you need to learn different proportions for different angels
Is this the reason faux anime creators always miss the mark? They don't get that you need to learn new proportions basically for every angle and even the symbols themselves change if the angles are significantly different, it's not just rotating a stable object in 3D space because the object itself changes.
    >>
    >>8059814
which is why theres literally no 3d anime or figures whatsoever
    oh wait, another nodraw post!
    >>
    >>8059891
It's amazing the lengths people will go to ignorantly attack things that are obvious to anyone who can actually draw anime and that shouldn't even the controversial. Sometimes I think the west might be healing then I remember this type of reddit midwittery is still unfortunately the norm.

I would say so, it was hard for me to get. I learned French Academic art for a while, and they teach you the exact opposite?
    >>8059891
3d anime is utter shit, but even they use different models for different angels.
Modern anime are 35% 3d, 35% efx filters and effects. That's why most modern anime is shit.
    Better to read manga.

    >>
    >>8059925
Tell me you don't draw anime without telling me you don't draw anime. You don't even have to be an expert to realize that the existence of 3D anime (something that has to do quite a lot to actually look remotely good) doesn't imply that anything >>8059814 said about drawn 2D anime is wrong. It's just an IQ issue at that point or just a severe hatred of anime that blinds you to reality.

The book is a great scan. The workbook has fewer pages and the scan quality isn't nearly as good. I think part of the problem is the kind of paper the workbook is made from; you can see faint images of the next page's markings in the background of each page's scan.

Anyone have the Tsukimonogatari settei from setteidreams gatekeeping it on patreon?
    >>
    >>8067493
I checked the website, and it’s sad none of my favorite animes got leaked setteis. Rurouni 1998, HxH 1999, Digimon 1999, Hikaru no Go. And a lot of mislabelings too. Like putting Digimon 2020 remake’s settei under the original 1999 version. Is the website’s owner actually retarded, or just a grifter?
    >>
    >>8067504
    >or just a grifter?
I've learned to expect the worst from the "sakuga community" guys who don't actually draw, a lot of them think they are experts on anime but I don't know anything about the site owner specifically.
Also I actually did get someone in Japan to buy and scan a settei not on there but I don't want it to end up on that site, idk where to share it eventually. Is e-hentai good or is it possible they will download and gatekeep it?

    >>8070296
    This one is really recent.

I can’t help but think you’re just a 3rd-world bootlegger or some kind of print shop. Like some customer asked you for these books, and you asked around to get good digital copy.
If you are have even small interest of the book itself, you would know it hasn’t been released yet. Disgusting.
And similar things have happened so many times on these threads. I think my suspicion is correct.

    WAT
    >>
    >>8070358
3rd-worlders go to copy shops and ask them them to print bootlegs. Often they ask the shop to find a good digital copy themselves. Or the shop claims they can find it for them. Many normal people are not that good with piracy stuff.

    Not a difficult concept, anon.
    >>
    >>8070296
I’ve been checking this ILLUSTRATION MASTER CLASS series, because they kept showing as ads on amazon.co.jp. And because most of them are leaked on piracy sites.
Honestly pretty bad. They attached a “successful”illustrator or mangaka and use a super cool cover. But the content is really really basic stuff. Did the “famous” illustrator/mangaka author even wrote the book? I’m skeptical.

    >>
    >>8072220
Okkk i meant to post the pic below it, but anyways...

Sorry to say buddy, but if you watch anime and find any of the female characters attractive, you are more likely a pedophile than not. Even if the characters are not explicitly school girl aged, the entire art style is made to cater to the pedophile inclination. Nothing else explains the drought of adult looking women in japanese media - it's a nation of covert if not explicit pedophilia, even when women have big tits they give them childish faces. Most of the japanese artists we admire and talk about and cherish? Open pedophiles. Any we in the west are incorporating it into our taste and culture in turn.

Am I saying this just to make you mad? Yes, but can you truly deny there isn't a kernel of truth in this?
    >>
    >>8072240
Holy shit, kys, pedo. Imagine defending your pedophilia. So disgusting.

The economy inside EH has three currencies:

Hath - Users who sign up to operate EH's distributed processing system, "Hentai At Home" (hence the abbreviated term "HatH") earn Hath, which you can exchange for goodies or sell on the Hath Exchange for a lot of Credits. A single unit of Hath goes for about 2500 Credits!

Credits - You get a small amount of Credits every day, plus you can also earn them in the Hentaiverse game or get them from other users when they pay you a bounty.

Gallery Points - This is what we're really interested in. Gallery Points allow you to download galleries (duh?). GP comes from having galleries and torrents that other users download, but the fastest way to get them is to buy them with credits at EH's GP Exchange. The exchange rate is somewhere between 4:1 and 5:1.
