    You can always hide the threads you don't want to see.

    And we already have one about classic paintings

    I've been filtering for years but that doesn't solve the issue. I'm at Filtered threads: 109 — Hidden threads: 17 right now. These threads would get a lot more visitors if we had our own SFW board like wsg, wsr, c, co, and so on.

    whitelist filter for 4chanx. place it in general. type in whatever terms you want to show up separated by vertical bars. everything else is automatically hidden

    example:
    /^((?!paint|art|architect|vehicle|cars|boats|subs|space|nasa).)*$/is;boards:hr;op:only;type:subject+comment;

    note, if you whitelist a term like "art" and someone posts a topic with the word "fart" in it itll get past your filter. and you cant use a whitelist filter along with a blacklist filter, at least i cant get it to work, so pick your poison

    it's a massive anachronism! Although the battle took place in 1503 against the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, the 19th-century painter Henri Philippoteaux mistakenly used the Bourbon flag of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, which wasn't created until 1734 (over 230 years later).

    Jan Brueghel the Younger, Satire on Tulip Mania, c. 1640

    The copy on Wikipedia is a shit resolution, so I emailed the museum and they sent me a high-res photo.

    Earlier this year I took one of the tours of Hearst Castle. During the middle of my tour I entered a room and sat down while the guide talked to us. Four inches away from my ear was this painting hanging on the wall. Not a copy or a print. The original. Just chillin' like it was nothing. I was blown away. I had seen it before many times in books and online. It was just there, hanging on the wall, doing nothing. It's different when you see a famous painting in a museum, versus on a random wall. It felt odd, but really cool. Like seeing an A-list celebrity sitting next to you.

    Glad you liked it. As another poster said this depicts Prince Friedrich-Wilhelm paying solemn respect to a fallen enemy general on August 4, 1870, early in the Franco-Prussian War.
    Friedrich-Wilhelm became Kaiser on June 15, 1888 but died of cancer in only 99 days. Anton von Werner painting this a year after his death.

    Pic related is a result of that war: "La Tache Noir" or "The Black Stain." Painted in 1887 by French artist Albert Bettannier this depicts French schoolboys learning about the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine after the Franco-Prussian War. The implication is that they will be the ones to get it back. Note the rack of rifles on the back wall. Full title:La Tache noire ou La leçon de géographie.

    I really do like Renoir, especially his later works with the wispy brushwork.
