Imagine 10,000 american christians went to colonize another planet but they forgot their bibles at home. What would their Christianity look like after a generation? Would it degrade and distort through oral tradition? Would they ditch it and create a new religion in isolation? What is the "main" thing they would culturally remember?

    That's just Mormonism.
Mormons go to churches like mine under the pretense that they are accepted fellow Christians when nobody holds communion with them.
They are seen as more alien than Hindus. Our priests says that anyone caught conversing with them is going to burn in Hell and get violated by Satan forever, and they will be denied burial rites. So thankfully people avoid them like the plague.

god would never allow that, someone would find a KJV among the books they brought with them

Why not simply commit it to memory?

Could they write down what they remember or does it have to stay an oral tradition?

God allowed people to go without the KJV for all the many eons until it was written in 1611. Most Non-English speakers don't even know it exists.

Anon, a generation is twenty years. It would look pretty much the same as when they started. Assuming no upsets.
Btw, what kind of American protestant? Are they proportional to U.S protestant demographics? They aren't a denomination.
    >What is the "main" thing they would culturally remember?
Jesus is awesome. Beyond that you'd need to provide specific info on denominations and what such.
