Explain to me why human sacrifice is a bad thing? I see nothing wrong with ripping out the hearts of violent criminals who would have received the death penalty in modern societies anyways.

It's normie sadism, the same as faggots today who yearn for death penalty and prison rape for criminals

The narrative climax of Christianity is a literal human sacrifice so the idea is actually way more accepted in modernity than most realize.

    Ephesians 5:2
    >And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Anti-social elements of society are necessary to protect it from outside threats.

If you successfully weed out all the anti-social individuals, then all you have left is sheep.

While I've seen some inconsistent info on this, most sources generally seem to agree that sacrifice wasn't employed as a judicial punishment for criminals in at least Mexica society in the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan (though some judicial executions did have ritual elements)

So whatever executions the Mexica did (and they did do them, at least on paper a lot of crimes were punishable by execution, actually, from public drunkenness if you weren't super old, to adultery, or even defacing/damaging public land) would have been in addition to the sacrifices they did

But the plurality of victims of sacrifice were almost certainly captured enemy soldiers, so some amount of them were likely people who would have been killed in combat otherwise anyways, though with Mexica sacrifices in particular they were obviously usually the military aggressors, so that may not entirely or even mostly justify or absolve sacrificing enemy soldiers

That all said OP, yes, I agree that people arbitrarily make a big deal about Precolumbian (and African, sometimes even Bronze age near-eastern/asian) sacrifices, without batting an eye at deaths from religious purges, holy wars etc in Eurasia, or say ritualized headhunting and dismemberment in Feudal Japan, etc

The Spanish picked up on this, some friars actually theorized that the Mesoamericans were a lost tribe of Israel or otherwise previously practiced a form of Christianity due to similarities between Mesoamerican sacrifice, ritual cannibalism, and certain holidays to Christ's sacrifice, communion, and Corpus Christi, or thought/framed Quetzalcoatl as actually being Christ or Saint Thomas, and drew parallels between some Mesoamerican myths and Biblical narratives

Tho how much of that was earnest beliefs, or them just saying it to try to get people to convert is up for debate, some of the myths and legends they brought up as being similar may also have been distorted and altered by them to make that very comparison
