Why are the Gilded Age presidents so obscure and forgotten? Fortunately the miniseries Death By Lightning shown a little spotlight on Garfield and Arthur, but besides that they tend to be pretty forgettable outside of Grant simply because of the Civil War.

Era of strong Congress and weak legislative branch.

My theory is because the time period they lived in was too complicated for most normies to understand. There really wasn't any big flashy dramatic war or any stories their grandparents could have told them about how cool JFK was or some shit

The Gilded Age was basically a bunch of bored trust fund kids protesting immigrant laborers getting their hand chopped off in a factory machine or something. The progressive movement sounds noble at first until you read that none of its activists were actually the poor schwump getting his hand chopped off, it was the factory owner's guilt tripping nephew at Harvard.

    >Many were disillusioned that the Civil War had failed to reignite a spirit of idealism among Americans and the climate of the postwar years was more about getting rich at all costs. There were complaints that contemporary politicians were uninspiring and the age of great political minds such as Jefferson, Madison, Clay, and Webster was gone.

None of them have same aura as Jefferson "Rock of Richmond" Davis

back then people idealized early America a lot ala >>18766452 and said ah back in the day it was an era of strong, pure, and honest small farmers and craftsmen instead of megacorps. of course they ignored the fact that labor conditions in Jefferson's day were usually just as shitty, even if they had small mills instead of giant factories, and there were child laborers and it was illegal to strike in almost every jurisdiction.

    >Why are the Gilded Age presidents so obscure and forgotten?
That's because the real Presidents of the Gilded age were Vanderbilt, Carnegie, and Rockefeller

Are we able to compare what was going on with the Gilded Age and corruption/kowtowing to corporations to what's happening now?
