I've seen many arguments that Americans stole the idea behind cowboys and cowboy culture from mexico. Sure. But did it originate in mexico or Spain? Or somewhere else?
    >>
    >>18765653
No they didnt invent riding on a horse or herding cattle.
    >>
    >>18765653
Kek. Here's your original "cow" "boy/nigger". The Indian-Euro/Semite fags will see something other people did then just name it and claim they invented it, that's how they claim the horse and chariot.
    >>
    >>18765653
Anyone claiming to have "invented" what is essentially just a glorified shiteating job is full of shit themselves.
Anyone who droves cattle is a "cowboy", that's literally the whole basis of the job and culture.
Anyways, pic related was my "horse", I actually talk the talk and walked the walk. Any Australians who have been out bush will recognize it lel.
    >>
    >>18765893
    >cowboy is a job
Sure but we are talking about "cowboys" not cowboys. A cowboy wears a gun belt, gets in shootouts, and rides a horse retard.
    >>
    >>18765897
Ah so a fictional character then? Ok, Hollywood 1920s or so.
    >>
    >>18765901
    >cowboys in history NEVER EVER fought or shot guns it is 100% impossible all cowboys in the 19th century were pacifists
    Retard
    >>
    >>18765902
Who said that? You seem hyper emotional.
    >>
A lot of classic Texas cowboy culture naturally came from Mexico—“buckaroo” is Anglocized “vaquero” and the gear, lingo and ranching culture is Mexican. Of course there were a lot of whites and blacks moving west who had their own cattle herding cultures that came into the mix. Even Cajuns from Southwest Louisiana gave us “yippie-ty-o” from an old folk song.
    >>
    >>18765897
In that case, it's obviously a largely American invention with significant Mexican overlap, since virtually all iconic westerns and locales refer to Hispanic culture in some form or other but are largely still designed to appeal to American tastes and perspectives
    >>
    >>18765653
Managing herds of cattle was invented by white people. You can piss and moan and bitch about it to your heart's content but you are wrong and a stupid lying faggot.
    >>
A Cowboy is a job title anon. Cowboys were just ranchers. The reason we romanticize cowboys is because of their role on the American Frontier where they often dealt with violent outlaws threatening their ranches and source of livelihood. Yes, you can argue that Mexicans contributed to our modern perception of Cowboys insofar as Mexicans were among the most violent and threatening outlaws on the American Frontier
    >>
    >>18765653
Both cultures inspired it. No reason to be dualistic about it.

    >>
Pastoralism was invented at the advent of agriculture. Cowboy hats might be influenced by those of the Mexicans somewhat.

Why are brown people so obsessed with claiming to invent things? It's usually something either self-evident or irrelevant too.
    >>
It makes Americans seethe, because the pop-culture image of the cowboy is one of the few "unique" things they lay claim to, but in actuality, you are correct: a lot of that imagery came from Mexico/Mexican rancheros. They are moving the goalposts and trying some dishonest wordplay on what a "cowboy" actually is, because they really don't want to give the Mexicans their due. There is some psychological complex why they don't

When writing about the Mexican American War, Ulysses S Grant has to explain what a "lasso, corral, and chaps" are because his audience back on the East Coast had never heard those terms before
    >>
    >>18766415
if the mexicans did invent cowboys why don't all the cowboy stories end with them flaying each other's faces off
    >>
Spain introduced the fundamental elements, which were then adapted in the Americas to the specificities of the terrain (the horned saddle, the lasso, chaps, etc.). However, this took place during the 17th and 18th centuries. Mexico, as a country, did not yet exist. New Spain was Spanish territory. If someone was born in the northern part of the viceroyalty—where the vaquero culture developed—they would have identified as neovizcaíno, neogallego, tejano, californio... never as Mexican.

    >>
    >>18765653
    >>18766415
You fags need to define your terms. If you mean cowboy to be pastoralist cattle farmers, Cowboy predates the americas by centuries. If you mean cowboy is the gunslinger rancher riding with his posse across the west, he is more fiction than real, but in as much as there is truth, he’s nearly all American in parts across time and locations. If you mean something else you need to explain yourself

The whole "stolen" thing is dumb. There were cattle trails where cows raised on ranches in South Texas were herded north. That area used to be Spanish and then Mexican and then Anglos populated it and broke away from Mexico, but that culture was influenced a lot by the Spanish-Mexican cattle ranching which proliferated throughout Mexico in the 1600s and 1700s.

Also this idea is totally non-controversial in Texas which is culturally associated with cowboys. We take a year of Texas history in middle school and it goes pretty deep. The emphasis on civics is one of the nice things about the public education system here. Also there's a big emphasis that Texas was a MEXICAN province that broke away from MEXICO. Now a lot of the Anglos always intended to do that in reality but they played politics, so you had the founding fathers of the republic before that declaring themselves to be loyal Mexican citizens, speaking Spanish in official correspondence, etc.

Honestly I think people in some other states who don't really have this cultural background get into culture wars about white people vs. Mexicans. There are also liberals (many from other states) who think the Texas war of independence was about slavery, which is projecting some weird Union vs. Confederacy or red states vs. blue states thing onto something that was very different. You can't really teach Texas history without teaching Mexican history. The actual flag we flew at the Alamo was also a Mexican flag with the founding date of the federal Mexican constitution on it.

spanish person here. spanish people invented it. i had a friend whom ancestors were "vaqueros" in southern spain. i myself have vaquero ancestors as well, but i think southern spain vaqueros are more related to what later would be the north-american cowboy

    >>
    >>18765933
    >A lot of classic Texas cowboy culture naturally came from Mexico—“buckaroo” is Anglocized “vaquero” and the gear, lingo and ranching culture is Mexican.
No. Everything was done by Spain.

Cowboy culture comes from Spain (vaqueros), even the mustang horses are a derivative of "mesteños" (mustsang is how they spoke that word in english) which is the Spanish breed that was taken by Spain to the US West.

Also missiones, patios, rodeos, presidios, etc, all of it was brought by Spain.
    >>
    >>18767282
what we invented was the way american cowboy deal with their cows. es de corte español. a lot of cowsheperds usually have different tools in regards to how to manage their cows, while what we invented (or rather, was inventend in the south of spain) is a mode of "cowboyship" that would develop into the american cowboy
    >>
    >>18767301
That’s a predecessor, not an inventor.

    >>
    >>18767283
It comes from Spain, but from Spain it jumped to Mexico and from Mexico to the current United States.

In the Mexican Septentrion, haciendas, mines, presidios and missions had already been consolidated by the middle and end of the 17th century, generally populated with criollos from the Center and Bajio of New Spain, even settling in places such as Santa Fe de Nuevo Mexico and having fiscal and legal obligations in Mexico City. The founding of many of the current border cities are from this time, so we can trace the first cultural influence of the current southwestern United States in this region and that time.
    >>
    >>18767314
Good argument. You won here today. I just wanted you to know that.
    >>
    >>18765653
What does it mean to steal an idea about being cowboys? Is there some other way to herd cattle in the western states and Mexico? What distinctions do you make between Mexican, Spanish, and American cowboys? Do you recognize any differences? What about North African and Anatolian cowboys? Do they play any role in your construct of cowboy culture?

    > he is more fiction than real, but...he’s nearly all American in parts across time and locations
Retard. The idea of the "Wild West" being some lily white, good 'ol boys, aww-shucks type of Americans comes form 1950s John Wayne slop. The reality was the genesis of "cowboy culture" that is so prevalent in modern day America comes from Mexican rancheros, and when the USA conquered vast swaths of Mexico, the culture became diffused, and took other forms in other places, but the reality is: its origins lay in Mexico.
Read this and tell me how many Spanish origin words do you see:
    >The buckaroos at the rodeo ate barbecue after they showed us tricks with their lasso. They drove the broncos into the corral after the stampede. They pretend to be desperados by wearing a bandana.

The Spanish were raising cattle in the plains and praries of Nortb America before any white man ever got close to the Mississippi
    >>
    >>18767283
Mexican Vaqueros were different from the Spanish ones. They are the ones that would later be called cowboys by Anglos and Germans that moved into Texas. The Mexican outlaws also were the ones that inspired wild west stories.

Mexican culture in general was already very different from Spanish culture within a century.
    >>
    >>18767565
No but they actually would escape slave masters in the south and go to Mexico to be free. Then they would get employed by Mexican cowboys and become black cowboys themselves.

Some white chud will disagree with this. They also will tell you its not true that Mexico had a black president long before any other country.
    >>
    >>18767633
And cowboy films were only possible because Spain brought horses to areas where the indians lived in the USA West and taught them to ride them and use firearms. Yes, it was Spaniards who allowed the Indians to be experts in riding horses and with this they could fight back.

Another funny words that the English used as translated of Spanish are:

    -Alligator---->Lagarto.
    -Buckaroo--->Vaquero.
    -Canyon---->Cañon
    -Nigger----->Negro.

They heard how the Spaniards said those Spanish words and they spoke them in English and used the phonemas to write them down as new words.

    >>18768018
"Mexicans" were Spaniards until 1830s. Everything "mexican" was created by Spaniards. And the vaquero-cowboy culture in Mexico is just Spaniards bringing them all of it and criollos (Spaniards born there) copying it.

True. No other nation stopped completely the Conquest of a continent to deliberate about whether it was right to do so and if it was right to give a new religion to the inhabitants of this new continent. Spain did it in 1530: "debate de valladolid".

The highest moral a nation has achieved ever considering that white americans were still hanging blacks on trees in 1930s.

What you are doing, I mentioned earlier: >>18766415
    >they are moving the goalposts and trying some dishonest wordplay on what a "cowboy" actually is,
Yes, yes....good job, oh Wise One. Horses were brought from Spain in the 15th century.

    >They heard how the Spaniards said those Spanish words
Er...no. Lol. American settlers heard Mexicans working on the rancheros say those words.

    >"Mexicans" were Spaniards until 1830s
False. Mestizos were not considered Spanish, even in the 1500s. Try again.

    > Everything "mexican" was created by Spaniards.
False. Mexican/Creolo/Mesitzo culture was already clearly divided even in the 1500s. Try again.

    >>18768036
You imply the Spanish kings even cared. Im pretty sure they just realized the situation was uncontrollable. The decline of Spain was a slow burn and this was a big part of it

You still don´t say that ANY person under the Spanish Empire was "Spanish". And yes, everything in the Spanish Empire was brought by Spain and developed by Spanish in America that later were named as "mexicans". Mexicans could not develope this culture by themselves because it was brought by Spain.

    >>18768049
True. The more people read about the greatness of the Spanish Empire the more they would realize how incredible it was. The protestants out of envy created the fake Black Legend using a traitor and liar (Bartolomé de las Casas) as the source.

Whether mexican or spanish, the origins of cowboy culture stem directly from what developed in northern New Spain and from people generally raised in that territory. We can't say it's an exact copy of what came from Andalusia because the geography of the Septentrion was very different from that of Europe, and adaptations and innovations had to be made to sustain it in North America and serve the local silver economy, presidios, and haciendas.
