ה׳ לבדו פועל. לא ״פועל״ במובן שהאל הוא פועל אחד בין פועלים אחרים, אף שכוחו גדול מכוחם. ואף לא במובן שהאל פעל תחילה, הניע את הבריאה, ומכאן ואילך הנבראים פועלים מעצמם. ואף לא במובן שהאל רק מתיר, צופה או מתערב בסדר סיבתי שיש לו כוח עצמאי. לא. ה׳ לבדו פועל, כלומר אין שום דבר בעולם שיש לו כוח לפעול מעצמו. שכן כל הפועל אינו פועל אלא מפני שהאל מעניק לו את מציאותו, את כוחו ואת היותו בפועל. וכל המתרחש אינו מתרחש אלא מתוך תלותם המתמדת של כל הדברים בו יתברך. שכן אילו היה דבר כלשהו פועל באופן בלתי תלוי באל, היה נמצא מקור שני למציאות שבפועל, ולא היה האל הסיבה הראשונה לכל. לפיכך אין ההבחנה בין פעולת האל לפעולת הנבראים, אלא בין פעולה מכוח שנתקבל מזולתו לבין פעולה מכוח עצמו. הראשונה שייכת לנבראים, והשנייה לאל לבדו. ה׳ לבדו פועל.
