Patrice Lumumba was a really bad statesman. He made stupid threats that he wasnt ready to follow through on and couldnt see the obvious threats right under him. He was overthrown by his own men, sought refuge from the UN, and was safeguarded by them before being kidnapped by his own military before being executed. All this after he made a really stupid political blunder of threatening to work with the Soviet Union thus cementing him as a viable threat to the United States which served literally no purpose. Also he wasnt assassinated by the CIA like commie conspiracytards love to claim. The Church report makes it clear that they toyed around with the idea of using poison toothpaste, but that they had no real way to getting to him after he was under UN protection. In either case, he was shot to death by Congo soldiers, not poisoned by anything. Oh, and for all their talk of self determination, the UN went after President Moïse Tshombe for the crime of wanting to establish trade deals with the Belgians on his own terms.

>>18761651Lumumba was like the Che Guevara of Africans in the 1960s but they got him before he could really enact any socialist legislation so hes sort of their idol for what Socialist Congo could look like
>>18762963He's a martyr not an idol. He achieved nothing during his life. A useful symbol against imperialism even though he killed more blacks than the belgians did. Had he lived he would have ended up just as corrupt and retarded as any other african statesman
