Those taboos should indeed still be followed (by Jews) but it doesn't give license to go around and antagonize others about it. What comes first is good treatment of others so that everything else can be done in love. There was also the reality that many people of Jewish background had other difficulties to attend to, e.g. the hated tax collector. It becomes especially important to approach them with open arms if there is ever hope for their repentance and practice of the faith.
