Jainism is a very performative religion, unfortunately. Their extreme pacifism obviously can't be reconciled with the necessities of human life, so they can only exist as a minority leeching on non-Jain hosts. They also still kill plenty of living beings, but in theatrical ways to make themselves look more merciful, like the boiling water before drinking it things. You're still killing the microbes, so what exactly is the point? It is only done to draw attention.
