Why is listening to actual FM radio on a cell phone considered such a foreign idea? I do it all the time, far better than Spotify garbage since it doesn't rely on cellular data.
The last time I unwillingly listened to the radio it was like 5 minutes of content and 20 minutes of ads on every station
Mandatory unskippable ads.
>>110197007thats why you make an illegal fm station with your own playlist (using a hackrf or something similar)
>>110196979I used to do it but it required a headphone jack because the wired headphone is also the antenna.I use internet streams now but they add annoying ads that play every time you switch to a new tower so for music I switched to a paid Deezer account.
>>110197037>audio version of the advs>"please disable your adblocker ;(" just to see 20 ads for wegovifucking idiot, same shit
>>110197007and most of them are owned by clearchannel so the commercial breaks are all at the same time
>>110197045There was a shop on my route to work that did that.Blasting their crap over my favorite station. The shop was of course owned by Indians and they broadcast Hindu garbage.
My music tastes are too niche for any FM station to satisfy.
>>110197007>>110196979this question and the responses are all country and culture based + employment-based. A trucker in Bulgaria will listen to Radio Veronika – likellyhood is like 90% for the average trucker, so you may as well say that they all do. Now, an office cuck in the same country will listen to western gay podcasts like the JRE. There is no real reason between the 2 - the JRE is just a western "enlightened cuck" version of the Veronika podcasts and just like you will listen to some metal from time to time, just so the trucker will listen to chalga. if you never listened to radio it means that you do not drive and your interest set is a bit western. Hell, unemployed students also watch Twitch for hours per day and it is the exact same thing as Radio for truckers and Podcasts for Office cucks.
>>110197083I forgot the Youtube watchers who... know how to classify them, but there are some people who watch 8 hours of videos per day. and what about the whores that scroll social media for 12 hours per day? they do it even at home.
>>110196979Radio has been playong the same music for 40 years it feels like
>>110197083>Radio VeronikaHOLY SOUL
>>110196979Streaming a song (2-4MB) is practically free. Ad blockers are trivial for YT Music and the algorithm is just as bad as Spotify. You can't put ad blockers on commercial radio.
>>110196979Spotify can personalize your radio stations to your tastes though.
>>110196979Commercial radio is pure cancer
>>110196979because most phones don't have fm radio suppoet lert alone a headphone jack anymore
>>110196979Wait do phones really have FM tuners in them? Pretty sure that shit is streamed over http/https, thus uses data..
>>110199553yes, but they need headphones plugged in to act as an antenna
>>110199553Considering I can use it with Airplane mode on or out in the woods with zero bars, can listen to stations which don't live stream their shows online, and can even tune into my FM transmitter which is broadcasting the audio from a game on my laptop, I'm quite sure you're wrong.
>>110199602Oh gotcha, so this isn't a tech that currently has any bearing on reality.
>>110199606You're poor and I'm unimpressed.
>>110199623>wanting more features makes you poofok retard
It's not, all phones since the smartphone era have had FM radio (with headphones acting as the antenna).
>>110197059Why didn't you report them to the FCC? They'd have gotten fucked up the ass in court over that.
>>110196979My 2 years old Motorola has FM radio and I used to listen to some morning show on my way to work. Other uses for me is when I go hiking in remote areas and the mobile network is sparse or not working at all, but the radio still works. All my previous smartphone had FM radios.
>>110196979I used to carpool with a colleague who listens to radio when he drivesover the year I heard the same damn song multiple times during 40 minute commute Radios suck dick>but news what news ? local grandma was rescued by Lassie or someone reported seeing coppers on the highway?
>>110196979terrible music + constantly filled with boomer ads, same with cable TVi normally save my music locally so i dont need cellular data to begin with
>>110196979That’s cool bro. Just because you do it doesn’t mean the whole world has to do it homie. You know YouTube exists right? And you know free FM Radio doesn’t come on iPhones right? Which is the phone that everyone has. You gotta pay for that on Apple products.
>>110200965sounds like a pretty good reason not to use iphone esse
>>110199553Only international models have it, it's disabled on most north american models, and even if you do have it enabled chances are it only plays back mono sound.
>>110196979My phone can't into FM radio because it's shit (Scamsung) but listening with pic related is comfy. Nice dance music you got there on 101.1 mhz
>>110196979>listens to advertisements every 3 minutesdamn bro, you really showed them, big business cellular(BBC) in shambles
Do they even make 3rd party apps that can access the onboard radio chip? The built in one on my samsung is pretty bare bones and only plays back in mono. There used to be the nextradio app but it is long gone
>>110201978I think they are very hardware/device specific, so you're kind of stuck with the manufacturer provided app. I remember finding a Radio app on XDA for LineageOS and it was a hit or miss if it will work on your phone.
>>110202040>>110201978The phone manufacturer has to allow you to actually use the radio.
>>110201663Chinkshit?
>>110197007Not on my favorite channel
>with headphones acting as the antennaIs this a kind of technical requirement or a legal one?
>>110202707If you're in EU - it's a technical and legal requirement. Also you're allowed to use only 50 % of audio volume during a song, and 80 % during an advertisement. For the rest of the world - headphones work only as an antenna. No other regulations.
>>110197050i've been seeing way less disable adblock banners in the last 2 yearsmight be because chrome nerfed adblockers and websites do not feel the urge to engage in war nevertheless ublock is ahead
>>110196979FM radio hasn't been a feature in phones in almost a decade. Their chips still have radio capabilities but they don't bother to wire them when manufacturing the phones anymore. Imagine if the smartphones weren't so fucking gay and useless we could even have had models with built in SDR circuitry.
>>110197106>>110200960Sorry that you live in a shithole where nigger monkey music and pop crap is the only marketable music. Here we have plenty of stations that play anything from jazz to lounge to eurodance and rock. >>110197083Nah, I regularly listen to Jazz FM and NOVA when driving and I despise podcasts (and listening to people talk in general). You're a jaded retard and chalga stations are thankfully dying. When I was a kid there were like 5, now there's only one. Good riddance.
