I just bought a 5K monitor after trying 4K, never going back to anything less at 27 inches.

That would depend on your screen size, and your viewing distance.

"retina quality" is a function of pixel density and view distance, and pixel density is a function of resolution and panel size.

You want 4K at 24", 5K at 27", 6K at 32" for retina PPI at desk distance.

2 monitors at 1080p
Primary monitor at 1080p upscaled to 1440p through software
4K is a meme. 8K is a meme. Save your bandwidth. Save your GPU power. Anything to be said after that fact is cope.

I wasn’t expecting this many 4KGODS on /g/, complete opposite of /v/.

1080p. No reason to go higher yet
>TV still sub 1080p
>sport streams still 1080p
>movies still 1080p or comically large
>GPUs comically expensive for smooth 4k gaming
Maybe in 10 years. Fuck off

I see. I'm at 32" so that makes sense why I think it looks subjectively bad compared to my laptop

1440p

It works so I'm not upgrading until it breaks or become unusable. Would love more screen space, but it's whatever.
>>
>>110195960
I settled on QHD after much trial and error. It's a nice balance between pixel density and screen realestate.

>Primary monitor at 1080p upscaled to 1440p through software
wtf why? this is going to look dogshit on anything except gaming, but for gaming you're better off using dlaa/fsr/xess native or supersampling in games that offer that so what the fuck is the point of running such scaling 24/7?
>>
>>110195960
am I an uncurable NPC mouthbreather if I bought a WUXGA?
>>
>>110195960
I only buy/use 2560x1440 and 3440x1440. Still trying to find a quality panel + 4:3/16:10 monitor though.
>>
>>110196123
it also doesn't help that aside from 4k blu rays (which is only available for the biggest blockbuster movies), pretty much any 4k content out there is severely bitrate constrained and the difference between watching that stuff at native 4k and downsampled to 1080p isn't significant.
On jewtube for example. the 4k option is pretty much just what regular 1080p should look like, and 1080p is more like 480p.
>>
>>110196106
I'm using the same setup, 2x 1080p triumphs all.
>Primary monitor at 1080p upscaled to 1440p through software
Why? It makes the image look blurrier at best, I can't imagine doing that unless you really need the additional workspace.
>>
>>110198269
the opposite

Is 4k a lot different than 1440p on a 27”? Mostly for vidya.

For vidya no. If you literally only use it for vidya get 1440p.
If you use it for normal computer stuff though like videos, shitposting, fapping to porn then it is worth it to get 4k instead.
4k 32" is the sweet spot imo
>>

>That would depend on your screen size, and your viewing distance.
Shut up faggot. Most people using a computer monitor sit roughly about a meter or less away from the screen.

nope almost same shit from 20 inches away
And especially for gaming
Save 50% of GPU power by going 1440p, fidelity is same

5K for my main computer’s main monitor at 200% text zoom
4K for other monitors at 200% text zoom

you’re an NPC mouthbreather if you refer to it by a string of letters
the good news is that you can cure yourself if you just say two numbers and stick an x in the middle
>>

1080, faggots.
>>
>>110195960
1440@32. Figured if I'm paying for more pixels I better see the difference for sure. If 1080@24 is fine then so is this.
100% scaling is comfy.
