I'm not an artist, I use AI at work. it's definitely not "just a tool" for programming. it does my whole job for me. I COULD use it as just a tool, but that's a waste of time when I can just let it cook by itself. I imagine the same is true with AI art generators. where do you draw the line? what part is drudge work that you automate and what part is artistically meaningful?

There's an artist on X, goes by SamyazaSpeaks, I think he is quite good. My favorite of his is "The Biblical Experience", especially the first 2/3 where its working off of existing renaissance art classics. The final 1/3, which gets into technically future events, falls off hard in quality purely on metrics of AI visuals, but for understandable reasons as it depicts the eschaton...

I tend to agree that the overwhelming majority of AI content is quite bad right now, and what is counted as "good" is getting a pass by having barely a high school level of aesthetic sophistication. BUT, i dont think it will remain that way forever, not necessarily at least.
