2026 feels different because AI is filling the knowledge/effort gap, seeing everything become slop, even projects that had been continuing development, speaks volumes about how much shittier the internet is about to get

He's obviously reffering to the web.

Just imagine how you'll be reminiscing about these shit-tier times in a short number of years. It only gets worse from here so start enjoying the now.
>>
>>110190928
The internet was huge in the 90s. The dot com bubble inflated and burst before most people even had broadband.
>>
>>110189673
2000-2005 is fairly overrated, the internet was basically empty (despite feeling crowded, but that has a lot to do with the relatively high amount of small isolated communities) and the very few people engaging with it were mostly dummies, corny ass cringelords or proto autists.
It was simpler and more chill but there was barely anything going on. Developing strong bonds with anonymous strangers was the norm.

2006-10 wasn't much better/different but there were a lot more hotspots to lurk. People say the normalfag invasion started here but most of them only hanged out in a handful of sites. It was all so fragmented it still felt like "surfing the web", like you actually discovered new sites on the regular.
What I remember the most from this era were the rules. Every forum and community developed a long list of rules and power tripping mods were everywhere. That didn't stop people from pursuing the purest form of lulz.

2011-2015 was the big shift. Social networks exploded, everyone started using the internet and there was general anarchy as big platform weren't fully built around ads and struggled to moderate themselves, so the web wasn't completely suffocated by corpo guidelines yet. But I distinctly remember a general anger, everybody argued for days about the stupidest crap. Everything was srs bsns, except it wasn't. .

2016-2020 was interesting because the internet fully consolidated around a bunch of corporatized socials, censorship exploded and the great sanitization started, yet a lot of people stopped taking everything so seriously. The lulz did make a big comeback and nothing was sacred anymore, but everything was suddenly overly political. Big polarization, both laughter and anger were as intense as it gets. Shit shifted so rapidly it was hard to keep up, hell 16-18 and 18-20 are basically two distinct eras. Very energetic times.

2021-25 was dull. Never reached the heights of the previous decade. Covid monopolized everything both online and offline and it's a distinct chapter by itself, but other than that, it all felt pretty tired and rehashed. It just doesn't stand out, it felt like a forced sequel to 16-20 were people desperately tried to pretend the "now" was new or exciting or important excepy nobody really put his heart into it. The general consensus likes to pretend everything got worse with time, but I'd say shit got progressively better in some ways.

>>110191292
Shit didn't affect anyone besides the investors who wasted money on trendchasers. The infrastructure buildout paved way for the broadband.

2000? The minimum internet era they can conceive of is 2000? That's the level of comprehension we're dealing with. They cannot even conceptualize the Internet existing before the year 2000.

Napster came out in summer of '99 bro. The internet was very usable and way more fun.

The WWW came out in Fall of 1994. The dotcom boom took off in 1997. The "internet" was HUGE at that time it was everywhere.
>>
>>110189673
Beyond the egregious exclusion of the 90's era I'd say 2006-2010 was probably peak internet. It was around 2006 when Youtube first allowed embedded videos on other sites and that was a huge game changer. There were basically no restrictions on anything at the time either. This was peak "modern internet" and when everything good that came of it happened. By 2010 things were going to shit as Facebook etc started eating everything.
>>
>>110191822
zoomers don't know of the internet before the web. most people of any age confuse the two terms all the time
>>
>>110191838
Sure but it's true that the internet wasn't shit before the Web. The thing is the web came out in 94 and was hopping for years before 2000. Before the web only academics mostly had internet access. More common was local BBS systems which were btfo by the web in weeks.
>>
>>110189943
>Internet was barely usable before 2000
Not even remotely true. I had plenty of good times between 1997-1999 once I had discovered plenty of parts of the web and learned how to do quite a bit more than the average person who was surfing the web back in those days. I will agree that 2000-2005 is the best tier. I certainly had my best online memories during that era. After 2005 is up for debate because I like so many others were caught up in the rise of social media, making YouTube videos, and other normie bullshit which caused me to go way off track of who I was supposed to be. Which of course started to correct itself once smartphones were everywhere and almost everyone started to end up online. I decided being on social media where my fucking parents, grandparents, and every single person I knew IRL was everywhere. I retreated HARD away from all of it, never looking back.

Pretty sure the image is about site visits, not server pinged

the internet was a great break from normal life. but then everyone joined, and there was no normal life to join back into. it's not a good way to continuously live, but back then it could easily be cycled.
nowadays you can hardly get a fucking cab without having to download an app.
a surprise app requirement to use a normal feature of your bank account.
the dates are from apps. if you dont have an instagram on your dating profile to check she will think that's sus.
people don't bother to even go outside or socialize because the cold drip of mild endorphin and dopamine has them in stasis, and even when they do snap out of it and do something else, they find no community, and just go right back to the fleeting complacency of the internets.
>>
>>110192138
Fuck normalniggers, zoomers and boomers. Let their brain rot and suffer for actively choosing to be retarded every single day. I'm gonna enjoy my peaceful walks outside without having to lay my eyes on their ugly faces.
