Yes, Wikipedia has experienced a measurable drop in search traffic from Google, largely driven by the expansion of Google’s AI Overviews and "zero-click" search features. Recent data reveals that while Google is not explicitly banning Wikipedia, algorithmic shifts and layout changes have fundamentally changed how users access its information.
Why didn't you donate more to Jimmy?
All the sources can be assembled and evaluated by AI, why do you want them to be filtered through a mentally ill meat proxy?
google makes it seem as though the ONLY place where there are ANY people online is reddityou search for any concept, strawberries, and the results are like TIL There Are White Strawberries, ELI5 Why Are Strawberries So Cute /r/youcantactuallydrinkfromit Anyone Else Notice Strawberries Dont Come With A Straw it is fucking beyond belief that there is a single person that would willingly use or even go to reddit once but the fact that google makes the TOP link of almost ANY search a reddit result is definitely some kind of conspiracy to make people HATE other people and to only use AI instead from here on out
>>110188235Back in 2024 after getting sick of seeing reddit echo chamber opinions on the election, I used the forums tab on Google search to find more, and was pretty surprised by the amount of active fourms and stuff. Granted it would seem depending on the topic this may not be the case, but election news is pretty all encompassing, and it's something that the kind of oldfag boomers who never got the memo to leave their 00's hobby fourms for reddit or twitter, so there was a lot of extra discussion. It was interesting. Unfortunately for like regular searches, I never find that many other place on a specific topic. Reddit always seems to be the most prolific. As you said I'm really beginning to dislike browsing the internate lately because of it, and just yesterday I was thinking yeah I should just get an ai to do ALL my internet browsing and only use the ai from her eon out. But the issue with that is that it can sometimes (most times) miss infor for whatever reason, so yeah. I have tried it once when I had an agent download all mention of a nootropic on reddit and put together a report.
>>110187725Saw this coming. I rarely need to click through to an actual site now. Most the time an Ai summary is enough. Any 'informative' site is doomed.

>>110187746Wikipedia doesn't run ads, less traffic is better for them, in the short term.
Far better to have a response compiled from multiple sources than rely on the single Marxist controlled Wikipedia page that disallows any wrongthink
>>110188536What I hate about reddit is their sub conversation system instead of one big thread you can fully read just by scrolling down
>>110189088Yeah Wikipedia deserves to die for being libprog slop marketing itself heavily as unbiased factual summaries anyway. Maybe if they hadn't gotten so greedy people would care.
>>110189070they run ads on fandom, which the wikimedia foundation owns and operates
>>110187725womp wompI'm sure they'll be fine with all the money they have in the bank and all the revenue they're making off investments (as a non-profit company)
>>110187725Last I checked, Wikipedia literally has a rule that basically ays "If the rules stop you from making a good edit, ignore them". Guess what, this rule is constantly ignored by backseat moderators and power users because it threatens their power.
>>110188235>>110188536>>110191535reddit derangement syndrome
>>110187725>google AI "steals" info from a source and posts a summary>wikipedia editor "steals" info from a source and posts a summarywhat's the difference?
>>110192423Wikipedia is not in the business of collecting data about you by baiting you with 'free services'
>>110187725ironic that people still support wikipedia even after what they did to their cofounder...that is documented on wikipedia itself
>>110187725Wikipedia is the last bastion of sanity in this world of AI and is therefore above criticism.
>>110187725I always go directly to Wikipedia when I want that rather than through a search engine. Essentially, they are saying they're experiencing a drop in traffic from NPCs.
>>110192479No longer applies now that wokies editorials have infiltrared the ranks to skew their bias to shift the narrative in favour of being on the "right" side of history. You're better off going to topic specific wikis.
>>110187725They need to go back to the old Vector skin. This new mobile-like abomination is making the site unusable.>just make le account and change itkill yourself (in minecraft)

>>110192404Well yeah something would be wrong with you if you didn't get deranged from reading reddit
>>110187725The troons must be seething
>>110193454When aren't they
>>110192579They were saying the exact same thing about the monobook skin when it was new.
>>110188235Walled gardens are the future of the internet. Synthetic data collapses the output distribution of LLMs, so organic data becomes a vluable commodity. You grow a community of people who post, and you sell access to their postings. We asked for this.
wikipedia has been my homepage in browser for 2 decades now and that's not changing anytime soon. When I want to know something / look something up I just click home and search on wikipedia. I started using duckduckgo as well.
>>110192479>sanity>anything that goes against the wokist narrative gets reverted and the article is set to semi protectedSanity requires caring about the truth instead of drinking the propaganda koolaid. AI overview vs wiki is just shit vs shit. at least the AI overview compiles its response based off of multiple sites so it sometimes doesn't regurgitate the koolaid.
>>110191597Fandom is wikimedia? Lmao another reason to hate these cunts.
>>110194545Vector 2022 has been around for a few years now. It is objectively worse than Vector. I still can't get used to it. It hides important buttons in weird places, moves TOC to the side which is fucking retarded, and displays 50% less text on the screen than proper Vector. It's a dumpster fire.Monobook is better than Vector 2022, unironically. Using V22 feels like you're using a worse version of the ancient Timeless skin. It is a complete embarrassment and everyone that worked on it should kill themselves (in minecraft).
>>110194667>noooooooooooo, please don't deboonk my fringe schizo theories
>>110187725I basically never use Wikipedia anymore. I'd rather get innocent hallucinations than malicious propaganda
>>110192423The difference is wikipedia editor will nitpick information that fits his bias and say that everything that doesn't is "irrelevant"
>>110187725The credibility of what you find on Wikipedia is on par with what an LLM generates (both aren't credible sources of information), so in that case it's up to what's more convenient to use, and LLMs win that match up easily.
>>110187725>Google’s AI Overviews... Which are hallucinated dogshit most of the time. Gemmy Flash 2.5 is abysmal when it comes to factual accuracy
>>110187725Let it die.
>>110194951Why hasn't the "2016 election Russian interference conspiracy theory" page been taken down then?

>>110188194Because ai favors some sources to others, because meatbags trained them. You are a meatbag as well, so stop being a low iq j33t and use your brain for once

>>110187725LLMs are just better at quickly finding answers to your questions, especially when you're searching for something you only have a vague recollection of.i still use wikipedia but it's 50/50 nowadays between that and various chatbots.as for bias, i always avoided anything political for this reason, articles on science and tech are generally fine.
>>110187725Shaping query results, breaking wildcards and more than 10 years enshittification. No it's great AI, our features have changed how people understand information
>>110192629It's a vintage cringe
>>110187725Isn't that good for them? They're always begging for donations but now they save server capacity since Google can scrape them once and serve summaries of those articles to everyone.
>>110187725People don't search for topics on the search bar on Wikipedia.org?
