It doesnt have enough bw for dense models anyway, but you acn run a huge moe model and stream the experts as needed.
>>
>>110187906
Obviously but even outside of AI that's just retarded.

The Mac Pro from 7 years ago could do 1.5TB of RAM, they still haven't achieved this on ARM.

Just SSH into your desktop at home. You have a desktop, right, anon?
>>
>>110188440
Just buy a Mac Studio with the M5 Ultra chip (36-core CPU, 80‑core GPU), it has a more powerful chip and much better cooling

that would require peripherals to use and isn't exactly portable. it also costs $4k more

>>110188453
SSH to my desktop halfway across the world doesn't sound feasible. wouldn't my PC have to be running 24/7?
>>
>>110188518
>wouldn't my PC have to be running 24/7?
Yes, and? You could configure it to run in low power mode until you actually make it do something.
>>
>>110188518
>isn't exactly portable
I'm implying that you would connect to it remotely
>it also costs $4k more
Fair enough, could downgrade the chip to M5 Max (18-core CPU, 40-core GPU). Still probably too expensive? Perhaps a MacBook is a better choice.

>SSH to my desktop halfway across the world doesn't sound feasible. wouldn't my PC have to be running 24/7?
no. I habe a small computer running 24/h, very low wattage. I can ssh into that computer and turn on my desktop with GPUs, and then ssh into that one or use remote desktop. In my case I use wake on lan to turn on remotely, it can be finnicky sometimes, there's also smart plugs that let you power cycle and turn the pc on with just 1 bios setting. check /hsg/
>>
>>110188642
That's a good setup, but you're replying to someone looking to justify a $4K+ consumer faptop. This might be a little bit above his IQ bracket.
>>
>>110188765
as opposed to what? what other options are out there? $3k windows laptop that requires an enormous powerbrick and to be plugged in 24/7?

ironically, it's my high IQ that got me my job and plenty of income to afford spending $4k on a laptop, unlike you lil nigga

I have my setup >>110188642 + a m1 air + a newer macbook pro. I like to take the old air on travel. It's lighter and don't care if it breaks, etc.

If I had to choose only 1 computer for everything then it would be the maxxed out macbook pro yeah.

The advantage in the 128gb range IMO is running the ~30b models with large contexts. Until you jump to 256, you're not getting that much of an upgrade with your models, at least not without sacrificing context.
>>
>>110187659
Who's the market for a portable AI workstation? Just remote into a personal or cloud server and spend the rest on a Macbook Pro Base model.

For image generation and voice/music work, the M6 is plenty fast. It can generate pics using Anima in less than 15 seconds.
