Nope. Just like the 3090, the 5090 was never intended to have more than the shipped vram capacity so I doubt there are memory straps for higher density vram, or even dual rank clamshell support in the vbios.
The 4090 was the exception where a leaked engineering vbios that supported clamshell memory was available to mod in 48gb of vram

Anyone has experience fixing or paying someone to fix a missing pin/pad on a cpu? Got my hands on this 5950x and it works fine for the most part but it seems to make the computer blackscreen and then freeze randomly. Most often when gaming.

I'm wondering if it is fixable because I think it's missing the whole pad, not just the pin.

Pic related is the cpu laying on top of a paper towel with thermalpaste residue, didn't notice it looked kinda gross when I took the picuture.

Their past BF sales always had Alienware qdoled discounts, they even did it on their aw3423dw back when it was the only qdoled on the market and they had no reason to discount it
>>
>>110139386

paying someone to fix a missing pin would likely be more expensive than getting a new CPU.

albeit, one would need a donor CPU for a pin and skilled hands made of diamond.

it is fixable, however at a minimum a donor CPU, HD magnifier camera, hot air station with tweezers and the nerve of a calm cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

tRRDS 8, tRRDL 8 or greater if you set tFAW 32.
People will tell you that tFAW can be set lower, but they don't understand that you'll be creating stalls in certain cases.
tFAW 32 and tRRDS 8 sets the memory and IMC to behave deterministically.

the thing is i feel empty when im around money. i used to go to rich people's homes as a kid because my mom cleaned homes for a living and in the back of my mind it always felt a bit soulless.

i would not want to live in a gated community or even a "nice" neighborhood. im just like who is it all for? i dont need a big house you can only occupy so much of it anyway.

is it a poor cope yes. but think about what a laptop does. a laptop encompasses basically all of humanity's art forms. you can do it all on a cheap ass device. cheap being relative. i mean you really don't need much to be happy and that's objectively true.

one of the ways i look at money is like this. you know how in runescape you had rune armor? it got the job done. but then you had the gilded rune armor which is exponentially more expensive but admittedly u do look much cooler. but functionally they are the same. same stats.

that's how i view irl. expensive is nice and flashy but it really isn't better at all.

A new report from Yonhap News suggests that 70% of Samsung’s DRAM supply and a full 100% of the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips that are set to be produced next year are already reserved. The report also specifies “fierce competition” for the remaining 30% of Samsung’s DRAM orders.

No the 7900XTX is straight up better than the 9070xt in gaming. It has memory bandwidth on par with the RTX 5080 and graphics score to boot.
>>
The only thing the 9070xt does better than the 7900xtx, now that FSR4 is no longer exclusive to RDNA4, is ray tracing. If you're buying ayymd you probably don't care about RT so you are better off with the 7900xtx due to the extra vram and better raster.
>>
RDNA5 in 2028 is so fucking late for a tsmc N3 product, they really should launch this in 2027 if they don't want ti DoA
if they release it in 28 I'll just wait for RDNA6 at that point in 29 or early 30, it'll probably be in tsmc N2, might even wait for RDNA7 if it's 1NM or 1.4NM

raytracing gets easier and easier to render with software updates, I think raytracing got memed pretty hard because it was running only on UE5 and UE5 had complete dogshit performance for years, but not epic started releasing updates that make the engine perform better and better raytracing is kinda getting unmasked now, maybe even the 7900xtx could run it well in the near future
>>
>>110145843
There will be midrange rdna5 in 2027 but i agree n3 in 2027 even feels outdated.

>>110145855
Ray tracing gets memed cos the majority of games are still targetting 2020 consoles with rdna2 architecture so RT barely looks different from default. This will all change when the next gen consoles based on rdna5 release.

If you're using mods that alter how your character looks like, im guessing dlss won't like that and will cause visual glitches since it wasn't trained using your modified character model?
>>
>>110146723
In hindsight, I feel stupid for feeling stupid for upgrading to a 5090 that I didn't really need at $3600 four months ago. Turns out that FOMOing into hardware is always the correct choice.

Dlss1.4 to 4.5 are generalized models that work for any kind of art style
Dlss5 is Instagram realism slop and dlss1 was trained per game
>>

honestly the most sensible and correct opinion on the ai shit in general. the demand for shit and prices are not coming down, so get while the gettin is good baby!! the ai bubble probably will delfate like you said, but the tech is here to stay. there’s a lot of protest against ai in the artistic spaces but in japan and other countries gen. ai is embraced. animators are going to be using it, artists will have digital ai tools at their disposal across the board. it’s more of an integrated tool at this point and it also has rapidly had a place in our society. the negativity will always be there but it will just keep getting more normalized that ai is in our society and culture. it’s massively overhyped right now yes but it will still be around

and also prices won’t be coming down HAH i just nabbed a 5070ti slim for 1300. hurt my bank account yes but like i said, get it while its good baby
>>
>>110147298
Sorry I shoulve specified dlss1.4 to 4.5
I just had this idea that since to obtain the vector files they make a supercomputer play the videogame it wouldn't work correctly with a modded game because the supercomputer didn't play the game using the modded character
>Dlss5 is Instagram realism slop
Honestly they shoulve called it differently
>dlss1 was trained per game
Ohhh so they don't do this anymore? Is that why people easily mod dlss4 into games that don't have it officially?
>>
i just ordered a 5070ti for my new gpu, replacing the 2070 super. i was in this thread for days not sure what to do but i fuckin pulled the trigger and got the pny 5070ti slim. now my system will consist of a 270k plus, 32gb of ddr5 6000, and an asus proart mobo. my next step is to upgrade the ram to 64gb and get a 12tb hdd for storage. in the future i may switch to amd and get their proart mobo if it suits my interests (video editing mainly) but we’ll see.

in the meantime how much could i reasonably sell some old parts for? i have an old pc combo of z97 pro gamer mobo, Intel Core i7-4790K 4 core, and 16gb ddr5. i also have the 2070 super gpu, and a broken mobo socket msi z890 carbon wifi MB. any ideas are appreciated

>If you're using mods that alter how your character looks like, im guessing dlss won't like that and will cause visual glitches since it wasn't trained using your modified character model?
Doesn't seem to effect anything. Dlss5 seems to be a generic filter that deals with whatever is put infront of it (some people have got it working though lossless scaling.)

At this point you can't let yourself feel stupid or let others tell you are stupid for buying xyz.

There is a sickness of performative reddit males that loath anything resembling enthusiast purchases and you should be miserable if you didn't buy based on consensus.
The same retards that called anything but a 5800x3d/ddr4/3070 purchase dumb in 2024 are now crying about DDR5 and GPU prices.

the 3070 was dumb tho. all it's features just take up more of it's limited vram.

Switch it with any other midrange GPU and you get the point.
You sure aren't allowed a xx90 and damn sure not a xx80

Did people really preach the 3070? back then the whole crypto shenanigans were happening so all GPUs were expensive, pretty sure people preached the 3060 because of 12gb of vram and cheaper price. Pretty sure is not just my imagination because the 3060 is super popular in steam charts

Going to Microcenter tomorrow and buying all the stuff I need to build a new PC. First one I've built since 2016. What's the go-to keyboard these days?

Any decent keyboard brands? Don't want Logitech or gamer bait like Corsair.

I don't have a specific model recommendation but look for any keyboard that has magnetic switches instead of mechanical/membrane
>>
>>110147533
How's the feel compared to mechanical? I'm coming from cherry brown from some brand I can't remember. No doubt some unbranded chinkclone.

the cushion on my new libernovo omni SE $700 home "office" chair is made out of a material that's really soft and nice for my ass but it absolutely soaks up my farts, it's been a day and it already has a wonderfully pungent fragrance

it's also really comfy
I recommend :)

Use models that fit in your gpu with room to spare. The biggest upgrade you could do is slap another gpu in the system to give the models extra vram with llama.cpp
>>
>>110147439
3070s are cheap used and they run most everything at 2k. I use mine with occulink connected to my little mini pc. I think i paid $325 or something for it. For some games I'll run at 1080p then upscale with lossless scaling.

what resolution is your target between 1080p and 1440p? do you have a monitor already?

I have this board. It's hilariously overkill except it lacks a 10 gig nic.

>bifurcated x8 gen 5 slots, can handle 3 gen 5 m.2s to the cpu plus an extra gen 4
>3 more m.2 slots and an x4 slot available from the chipset
>6 sata ports *two are dogshit though

300 bucks is a ridiculous price for this. 500 total for the combo? Fuck you, lol
>>
>>110148137
It'll take >5 years for am5/6 to have a board of that quality at that price lmao
>>
>>110148163
I forgot to mention the x1 gen 4 slot above the gpu. I've got a Sata controller hooked in there but a gen4x1 10 gig nic suits it well if you really need it. The only downside to using this as productivity board is that it's a two dimm board but it's very fun to fuck around with
>>
>>110147717
I have that PSU. It's fine but the fan spooks me when it turns on, loud little fucker.

Superflower is releasing the new revision of that PSU like, now? It comes with an anti-melt dongle, like the TG wireguard. Maybe go for that, they appear literally identical on their spec sheets otherwise.

Hello anons, need some advice in purchasing 2nd hand desktops for education. Not an IT guy, just vidya as a hobby and my last build was in 2020 so my knowledge is barebones at the minimum.
The desktops are for IT and cybersecurity courses, I'm ignorant of the kind of workload and programs they'll be using them for.
Requirements are 64 gigs of ram, 1tb ssd and an i7 8th gen or higher cpu
Currently undecided looking at the CPU,
>8400 vs 8700
Price difference between the for 25 units would be $1200 here in SEA. Would the increase in performance worth it for the kind of applications those courses would use? Considering they're old CPUs and we don't have the luxury of upgrading them in 3-5 years until we get some ROI on them. Thank you.
>>
>>110149480
id say so
the 8700 is clocked ~10% higher and has hyperthreading which puts it at about 30-40% more performance than the 8400
>>
>>110149480
intel 4th gen to 8th gen have a big TIM under the IHS problem, if you're an actual enthusiast you'll want to delid those cpus and change the TIM for PTM
>>
>>110149496
Thanks anon. I guess that makes the 8700 worth considering then, specially since we won't be upgrading those pcs for some time.
The 64gig ram requirement is the really bank breaking one. I wonder if the programs they'll be using would really utilize all of those or benefit their use case (that I'm unaware of, as my 16 gig old gaming rig still runs just fine). Would save a lot of $$$ if 32 gig would cut it.
>>
>>110149582
I see. Don't think I'd go that far, these are 2nd hand units as it is and it would void the already limited warranty. Hopefully thermal paste they'll be putting in just werks.
>>
>>110149629
or u can get the 9th gen intel
>>
>>110149582
I have a 4690k that has been running pretty much 24/7 since I got it back in 2014 that still has perfect temps dough.
>>
>>110149663
Intel toothpaste is perfectly adequate if you run it at or below 1.2v vcore
>>
>>110149593
If you're sourcing the parts yourself, pairing 4 sticks of 16gb, 2666mhz ram on a h370/b360 board would be ideal for cost and stability
32gb sticks cost a lot and running just 2 will stress the CPUs memory controller harder since boards from that era are optimized for having all ram slots filled up (i.e. 2 dimms per channel)
>>
>>110149657
Was also looking at that but it would be an even harder ask budget wise as it would go from $10531.6 8400 all parts and assembly in vs $12575.05 9700 from different suppliers possibly without the peripherals too

>>110149698
Aye most of the quotations I've looked at have 16x4
for the 8700 build, they have an MSI Z370 board for it. That would be fine yeah?
>>
>>110149776
Z370 is better on paper but you won't be able to make use of its main feature, CPU overclocking, on a non-K Intel CPU
>>
>>110149791
Got it, I'll look for an h370 or b360 and those might be cheaper too. Thanks for the heads up anon
>>
