Anyone take a year or longer sabbatical before? I can afford it, have $1.5MM saved up, but I'm worried that it'll be hard to get another job that isn't complete shit in this market. Left my job a month ago and most of the way done raising a preseed round already. Market is white hot but I can tell it would be really hard if you didn't have a serious resume. I definitely cannot imagine staying at a big co writing code no matter what the pay is, but being a slop cannoneer is a lot more fun making your own product at least so far. The new grad unemployment stats from the fed are a 5 year moving average which at this point is still mostly data from the boom years. People still go into cs because the fundamental real metric of the state of the job market is price (salary), and until now there hasn’t been clear evidence that it’s going down. But the data is starting to come in about sub-senior level wages dropping. This will be the final nail in the coffin. Once it’s clear that salaries are falling will finally stop choosing cs as major. There already are many preemptively opting out, but in probably a year the whole thing will probably just be over.

So my coworker (indian) kept saying shit about our boss for being white, I (black) actually love the guy but this coworker wouldn't stop shit talking about how the guy is useless, that we should get rid of him, etc. Meanwhile my boss (the white dude) kept telling me how much he likes the coworker (indian) so I said fuck it and actually told him the truth eventually, he was devastated but also very thankful, and even said some other had approched him and told him something similar, ok I thought that was it and I could move on. NOPE. Seems by boss (white) talked with his boss (indian) and now I have a meeting with him (indian) about the matter. Now you might think, "just because they are both indian doesn't mean they will team up", but the coworker (indian) and bosses' boss (indian) go way back before either me or my boss joined. Am I fucked? Like what the hell

Why is quantification THE trend in resumes? If you give me a resume and every point is how you improved X by 75.6% and decreased Y by 11% and generated one billion dollars for the company I am going to think you are lying to me, and even if you are not, it tells me nothing about an engineer anyway; unless you're the CTO you mostly work on what you're told to work on. >>110143570Just don't talk to him. Act like he's not even there. Don't hop in to follow up on what he says, don't acknowledge that you even hear him. Now... whenever he is talking directly to you, just develop a set of one-liner canned responses that you use in rotation.>Thank you for sharing.>I hope you feel better now that you got that of your chest.>I hope saying that makes you feel powerful inside.>interesting perspective.>wow, you outdid yourself with that one.>I guess everybody loves their own opinion.say it. stare at him silently for 3 seconds. if he responds, watch him as he speaks, once he's finished back to your conversation. if he doesn't respond, after the 3 second stare, go back to your conversation.keep a neutral relaxed face the whole time. he's just a shreaking chimp with self-esteem issues. not your problem.
