    How good are lateral raises?

Should you be doing them in most routines? Specialized routines? No routines?

They're good if you like technical controlled lifting. If you like heavy MINDSET! lifting they suck because of having to pay attention to traps taking over. Though there are ways to circumvent that.

They can be replaced by other lifts if you understand the anatomy. You're not gonna have a weird narrow canyon where your lateral delt is if you already train anterior/posterior deltoids.

    >be me, former natty dyel with lame delts
    >start spamming lateral raises
    >ffw years
    >be me, natty semi-dyel with somewhat decent delts
Do what you will with this information

You gotta do them heavy af. Doing those 10lb raises most guys do does fuck all nothing. Do them heavy af. Get to minimum 30lbs and youll see shoulder size go up

Was doing OHP, progress was slow. Changed to lateral raises, my shoulders started growing

Seated laterals on an incline bench where you round a bit in the bottom and use a slight bit of momentum to get out of the hole and then lean back onto the bench fully are awesome. Smooths out the strength curve. If you have a good seated lateral machine that's also great.

Also it's kinda gay but try using straps on db laterals. It makes it feel like the db is an extension of your arm instead of something you're holding. Alternatively you can wrap a figure 8 strap around the db and put your forearm through it.

here is natty delt after 3 years of training. he is 5'8, <170kg, but able to shoulder press 40kg/90lbs dumbbells for reps and does high volume side lateral raises. make sure u don't skip on rear delt for a complete heart shaped delt.

don't listen to this dude, let your traps take part in the func it's no biggie and anything else is unnatural.

shoulder presses? no less than 60 -70lbs if using dumbbells. if using machine, focus more on rom and control.

for raises, it's almost always low weight, higher reps. pick a weight you can do about 20 to begin.
