Has anyone here seriously tried 20 rep breathing squats? I know these were originally popularized in the silver era through muscle magazines and it seems like a lot of the classic guys used this technique. Eventually this led to Super Squats being written about as a whole training program. I've looked at old forum posts and reddit threads of people trying these but its hard to tell if any of these guys are actually serious lifters or just beginners trying some meme program.

I've never done squats with reps anywhere near this high and the idea of pushing far past what would normally be your max by standing there taking deep breaths between reps is pretty interesting to me. Has anyone here actually run these for a decent period of time, preferably someone who was already a strong lifter beforehand? I'm curious if the results are actually as good as people claim or if this is mostly old school bodybuilding lore that keeps getting repeated.

Here's part of my homegym for a picture.

YES,
IT IS DIFFICULT BUT FUN,
EAT CHEESE, EGGS, DRINK WHOLE MILK,
EAT, EAT EAT,
IT IS MORE MENTALLY CHALLENGING,
I STARTED FROM 100KG AND ADDED 5KG AT A TIME,
DONE IT MON, WED, FRI
I THINK BOOK SAYS SMALLER JUMPS,
140KG FOR 20,
TOOK OVER 3 MINUTES FOE THE 1 SET,
MY 1RM AT TIME WAS AROUND 210KG - 215KG,
WEIGHED ABOUT 92KG,
HOPE THAT HELPS

I've done:
3x5 @ 405,
3x10 @ 315, and
3x20 @ 225.

Currently, I'm doing:
405x5,
315x10, and
225x15 every other week.

It's a bit exhausting, but it will thicken up your thighs. It doesn't necessarily translate into a heavy single, because backing that bar out of the rack is the hard part.

It could be a fun challenge but that's all it is. I get genuine feelings of euphoria doing heavy 3x10 squats but 20 reps is too much, especially super squats where you're just resting with the bar on your back for 10 minutes so you can call it a "set."

I still don't get what the breathing is like, it's supposed to expand your ribcage somehow?
I do 20 rep hack squats doggcrapp style, the idea there is to get many hard reps off one set
