I've been doing chin ups for like 5 years now, and never really progressed. I've been occasionally been able to do up to 10 reps when I'm in good shape and in a exceptional mood, but baseline is about 5 reps and no matter what I always revert to that.

Lately it's been too hard on my tendons. How do I fix this? Spend some time just doing dead hangs?

Well you put your arms to the side like this, then do pull ups like a real man
    >>
You do lat pull down machine starting at 75% of your body weight and progress like any other lift until you pass your body weight (the cable pulls you up out of the seat).

For tendons, switch the grip like >>77584187 and get stronger lats so you use less bicep.

i just fixed 3 ton hook scale - chinks forgot to secure the screen and digits got scrambled, and i tested it, i pushed on it with one arm and pulled with the other and it showed 80 kilos
is dat good excemercise for lats ?
    >>
    >>77584202
The pull up grip actually tweaked my forearm tendons as it feels like there is more twist there than with a supinated chin up grip
    >>
I do "beautiful reps" which means slow and perfect form, so I dont have this issue
    >>
    >>77584184
The real thing that'll get your back strength up is also doing all kinds of rows over a long time. Don't eat or lift too much or often or you'll actually get worse gains.
    >>
    >>77584270
You barely use the muscle that'll get your pullup stronger and rely on other muscles. Isolation is underrated. I was gonna start doing pre exhaustion training fir my compounds actually but am worried I am too much weaker on the second lift.
    >>
    >>77584184
    Pull-ups are superior
    >>
Your tendons are fucked because you’re hanging with a supinated grip, seems fairly obvious why that isn’t good.

Now as for how to progress with PULL ups, it’s just like any other lift. Do it a lot. Regularly attempt to increase weight.

whole training method detailed here. but in case you're retarded the tl;dr is break your shit up into 5 sets and if you can't complete them, after failure, do negatives instead.

I'm gonna stare the obvious since everyone here seems to be retarded:
    Lose weight, fatty.
    >>
    >>77584184
Slow negatives. I got from 6 reps to 10 reps consistently in a year by doing those. Make sure you're moving through the shoulders correctly. Pull them back in the movement but not too far back. Maybe stick to pulldowns if you're having a hard time with that.

Pulldowns would help too. Use a weight you can used 10 clean reps (no hip extension) with and work your way up until you can do bodyweight + 20 lbs on the machine.
    >>
    >>77584255
I swear i hit different muscles when i do this
    >>
    >>77584498
You probably feel the stabilizer muscles more which get underworked if you speed rep them and continue with compromised form.
    >>
    >>77584184
Either you're old or retarded. I, a skinny fat pregnant dog was able to reach 20 pulls up within 2 years. 75kg, 183cm, was spamming pull ups with added weight.
    >>
Negatives. I swear it's like magic. I won't make any progress doing any pullup progression, then I'll incorporate negatives after failure and the results are astounding. Take it with a grain of salt, I've never progressed to weighted (no interest in it) so I'm not exactly elite. Negatives after failure are synonymous with progress. Only problem is I find them insanely exhausting.

    >>77584184
after your sets, do a set of isometric holds:

    - 3x 10s at the highest point
    - 3x 10s at the mid point
    - 3x 10s at the lowest point (not dead hang, shoulders should be pulled down and basic tension should be there, its not grip training)

end each rep with a very slow and controlled negative.

you will shake like you have the strongest orgasm initially towards the 10s mark, after a week or two, the shaking will stop and your nervous system will adapt.
your strength increase will be out of this world.
    >>
It sounds counterintuitive, but add weight. Instead of doing high reps like you do sometimes, stick to something like 3x5 and add a 2.5 lb plate when you progress.
    >>
    >>77584184
5 years? have you been training grip at all because you should have more strength than that, or maybe you’re fat
    >>
Speaking of pull ups, I saw a young girl completely mog me and do a muscle up today. I was weak as fuck until I was 20, and theres kids out here doing this shit

    >just weigh nothing

    xD
    just kidding
if u take note it's a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MOVEMENT, more of a body row than pullup, cause chins and pullups are remtamerdened
    >>
    >>77585081
this is how i do pullups in my dreams
    >>

    >needs straps to do pull ups
Kek. Why cant strongmen do a single non assisted full ROM pullup?

    Fucking idiot
    >>
    >>77585167
well yeah he is a power shitter he has STR maxed but AGI on 0

he has no control of his core, he barely uses it
    >>
    >>77584498
And it probably is. If you stay shrugged up and elbows close to your torso you won't get much lat
    >>
    >>77584333
    This is sexist bullshit. Checked.
    >>
    >>77585366
    >strongmen competitors don't use core
    Okay, retard.
    >>
One thing I’ve been doing is doing pull ups very controlled and slow motion and pausing at the top for a few seconds. It makes them an absolute fuck ton harder but so much more effective
    >>
    >>77584333
So it's not 50 pullups in one set? 10x5 is babby level, only fatties and sick people can't do that
    >>
    >>77586014
the idea is to get to 50 pullups in one set, actually. look at the very end of the training program. this is what you're doing when you reach the end. that's a 2 minute rest between sets. think you can reach that in your lifetime?

I had the same issue. Instead of doing "more," I statred doing "better."

By better I mean I started doing full dead hang through full chest to bar. Explosive style. No kipping, just fast, hard pulls. Do fewer reps, fewer sets. Just make the reps faster, deeper, harder.
    >>
    >>77584184
scapular retraction is usually what limits pullups/chins so train that
    >>
    >>77584187

    >>
    >>77584184
Here's how you do 10 pull ups: do 5 pull ups, then do 5 more. It might seem like I'm being facetious, but that's the "trick." Even if you fail after the fifth pull up, get back on up on the bar until you've done 10. Then do it again the next day and the day after that.
