/hairmaxxing/ general - hair is love, hair is health! If you are experiencing thinning of recession, it might not be "Androgenetic" Alopecia, your hair is a representation of your health. There are no bald animals in nature, unless they are in severely stressful environments, and humans are no exception. The hair loss industry does not want you to know any of these because it does not generate them any money, same corporations who sell ShamPOO (it's on the name) are the same ones who sell Fin, Dut and Minoxidil.Scalp Inflammation -> Mobilization of DHT -> Scalp Tightness -> Oxygen/Nutried deprivation -> Hair LossGenetics do play a role, but it's not like some people do not have their T transformed into DHT and others not, rather they happen to be more resistant to it, but what if there is DHT mobilization to the scalp at all?Holy TrinityFix Your Diet: Protein powerhouses raw meats, eggs and raw dairy, hair needs cistheine and methionine to grow, you will obtain these aminoacids from these foods. Avoid processed garbage food and gluten.Quit Shampoo: It stresses your scalp by stripping it from its natural oils leading to overproduction, ever wondered why it does get greasy after a few days? There are natural alternatives you can use, that not only nourish the hair, but do not have all the toxic garbage shampoo has. (Raw eggs, rye flour, etc.) Your ancestors never had to rely on shampoo, you do not have to either.Daily Sunlight: People with AGA and Alopecia Areata tend to be deficient in Vitamin D, and promotes growth during the anagen phase of the hair. 20 minutes of daily sunlight should be enough, you can do it during morning/dusk where UV concentration is the lowest, if you eat the proper foods, you will be less likely to get sunburnt."There are not any scientific studies or evidence." No shit, there will not be any research if there is not any economic incentive to do so.
Evaluate your lifestyle before going into any of these toxic substances that treat the symptoms but not the root cause of the issue. Could it be diet, sleep, stress, you name it.Everything you apply into your scalp or skin eventually gets absorbed and goes systematical into your body, this includes toxic substances like minoxidil or shampoo.ExtraLower your cortisol, high cortisol will push more hair follicles into the telogen phase, these follicles shrink and produce thinner and weaker hairs.Sleep using a silk/satin bonette or pillowcase, reduces friction drastically when you sleep if you move a lot while sleeping, this prevents breakage and frizz.Scalp massages, not only they relieve headaches, tension but also promote hair thickness by stimulating the blood vessels of your scalp. Massage Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00r5XhQMPNYRosemary Oil, like Minoxidil, it stimulates hair growth, but unlike it, you don't lose whatever growth you achieved if you stop using it. Minoxidil was originally prescribed as a drug for people with cardiac problems, until they noticed it had *some* effects on hair growth. Synthetic products might provide you with faster results, most people that quit Min and Fin eventually lose everything they gained, what easy come, easy goes! But by /hairmaxxing/ you will not only regrowth over time, but will be able to keep it with no side effects.

I am monitoring this thread as I have started a hair journey after wasting many years not learning anything about taking care of hair or trying to have lush pretty hair. I will post cautiously as there's an angry hairlet who spews abuse in all the hair threads for some reason, almost certainly a resentful baldiehttps://youtu.be/FANkpodfgxk?si=c-iLkPqFQOuwuV6c
>>18786496>whispy, split ends, caked in some kind of residuePic unrelated,?
>>18786517Just be aware that the big difference is in classic treatments. You might inch out a few more gains with adjunct alternative treatments but you'll end up wasting a lot of time (and hair) if you skip the basics.
>>18786608I think I have things figured out pretty well. Diet, carefully chosen shampoo and condish, once a week mask, regular scalp massage, leave-in conditioners (a light one for most days and a cream for occasional days when I take a different styling approach), gentle brushing and using a flimsy wet brush, smooth pillowcases, etc.I started thinking I would grow my hair without a second thought but then over the months I have gradually learned a lot and tried lots of different products until I found what seems to work for me
>>18786516>WTF does that mean?Taking care of your hair and growing it out into a head of hair that will get you compliments will boost your confidence which in turn will make you feel better about yourself which will make you love yourself more.
So I have long hair up to my waist. What I’ve noticed is it gets thinner and stringier the longer it is. How do I support my long hair so it doesn’t thin out the longer it gets? I want a full long lions mane, not stringy hair with split ends. I am thinking of purchasing rosemary oil for scalp and some argan oil for the body and roots because it’s getting tanglier and tanglier due to the dryness. Should I just lop it off? It’s tiresome running a comb through my hair morning and night and pulling/ripping through the tangled mess. My hair type is on the finer side and gets tangled easily. Did you know natural blonds have thinner finer hair but more follicles on the scalp? So blond hair is high maintainence naturally due to the high density and fragility of our hair.
>>18786496so much bs holy fuck, i really hope no one actually loses their hair listening to retards like you>"There are not any scientific studies or evidence.">No shit, there will not be any research if there is not any economic incentive to do so.so its all bs. we can only be certain of anything because of studies. and your grifting influences' n = 1 experiments are not that.you can do an n = 1 yourself, but have fun wasting a year or two testing moronic untested alt therapies while promoting yourself to a norword 3+ and then realising if you just took finasteride you wouldnt have to get a hair transplant
>>18786499and btw rosemary oil doesnt work, the study showing it was effective was bunk
>>18786629>fine thin hair that is prone to breakage Make sure your conditioner has dimethicone and amodimethicone, silicones coat the hairs and prevent breakage/tangling. Furthermore you can’t really have a “lion’s mane” because our hair textures look flat even grown out.
>>18786629>>18786808Hi I'm a hairstylist. The longer your hair is, the more it is exposed to mechanical damage. Essentially, the ends are looking straggly because they are the oldest and most damaged pieces of your hair. Here are my tips for actually growing hair long and keeping it healthy while doing so:You need good nutrition as OP stated. Lots of protein and water intake.Don't get regular trims. We hairstylists are NOT going through and dusting every single split you have. We're taking off everything. You need to buy a pair of shears (hair cutting scissors that you use on NOTHING but your hair) and go through section by section cutting only the pieces that look damaged above where that damage is. You do need shampoo, and conditioner. Wash when your hair starts to feel heavy and oyur scalp gets itchy. A very large piece of maintaining the actual length of your hair is lessening the mechanical damage: do not wear your hair down. Keep it up in loose buns, claw clips and braids. This will look incredibly gay if you're male.If you do wear your hair down try not to lean on it in the car, wear any bags or coat over it etc. Absolutely no heat. Do not pull the brush through your hair roughly. Start from the bottom and be gentle- there should be no sounds when you brush your hair.I'm attaching an image so you know what to cut if you do decide to trim it yourself.I can answer anyting else too lmk
Anyone else have long, curly hair? Women compliment mine a lot when I wear it untied. It's fucking brutal how easily it gets tangled and shitty compared to other hair types, though.
>>18786496
>>18786876>I can answer anyting else too lmkWhat are generally the hardest hair types to care for? Like is 4C really impossible to keep long?
>>18786876>I can answer anyting else too lmktysm anon.1) do u think my hair is 2c or 3a?2) brushing my hair makes the curls disappear and it gets frizzy and wavy :( is that damaged?
>>18786951I've never seen truly long C type hair. It shrinks so much that I don't think it even can be long in the way we typically think of it.Anything low porosity is hard to care for because you have to open the cuticle, use the right products (not too heavy) and then seal it again. If you wear your hair down too often any type will be hard to grow out- it's not really worth it to have super long hair if it looks like shit and straggly.>>18786968Based on the info in your comment, I'm leaning 3a if this is it brushed out.Frizz isn't necessarily damage. Brushing can cause damage if you aren't being gentle, though, especially for curly hair which clumps and holds onto eachother in little sections. grab some of your hair and look at the ends up close: any little white bulbs on the ends or splits are damage you'd want to trim. I'd suggest only brushing your kind of hair when wet- it'll help your curls form together nicer. Research beginner curl routines and how to refresh your curls. It'll probably also help you to get good products if you find out if your hair is low or high porosity.
>>18786978>any little white bulbs on the ends or splits are damage you'd want to trim.ohhhh yes that shit is broken, lots of right angles and splits D: also seems to be low porosity based on floating in water and taking 4+ hours to fully air dry. pic is only after running my fingers thru it, i stopped using a brush due to the issues i mentioned but it does get tangled more often which makes it likely to rip if i try to brush it while wet (vicious cycle?)thanks for the advice i guess my first priority is trimming the broken pieces then finding products that work? i cowash with argan oil daily and shampoo once a week, i've done it for years and struggle to change the routine even though i know it's not ideal. stupid autism.
>>18786876I have wavy hair on top but weird frizzy little curls on the sides. Is there anything I can do about this or am I fucked? Do I just need to grow it out?
>>18786517Just get on dutasteride, or finasteride if you cannot get the former, as soon as possible. That is literally it. You will save your hair this way.Try minoxidil topical or oral too, but unless you are a hyper-responder, it might not make a significant difference.Just do not believe the bullshit OP is writing about. Hairloss is very well studied and understood and available generic medications have not only been demonstrated to be safe over decades of research, but are proven to stop hairloss completely and forever.
>>18787014Yaah this weekend I'm setting up a consultation and I'm going to insist on tablet treatments because I bought topical 'nox about a year ago and just can't use it. my hair is wet in the morning and has product in it at night and neither is very compatible with topical 'dil. In any case, I will see what they say in my case. Currently my temples are are showing more than they used to but no crown baldness so it's a good time to start, basically a Norwood 1 but I don't want miss my chance to get ahead of it
>>18786876Thanks so much anon. I’m >>18786629and 100% Nordic heritage with 1A hair. Do you have any tips for taking care of extremely smooth, fragile 1A hair? I live in a dry cold climate and I notice it gets frizzy and staticky during cold season. What brushes do you recommend? What hair products do you recommend? I’ve heard of another Nordic anon with 1A hair using seawater salt sprays to add moisture to her hair to prevent frizz. I have a boar brush comb but since my hair is also dense on top of being fine, it doesn’t penetrate my scalp and barely does anything to untangle my tangles. I started using a Detangler brush explicitly used for fine thin hair and it has the same problem! Doesn’t penetrate my scalp and smooth the hair down, but rather makes a tangled rat’s nest by only smoothing down the top layers. I want to grow my hair up to my tail bone but already have so many split ends. It’s waist length as of now, but the split ends start beneath the nipples. Should I just cut it all off? When I put my hair in a braid, the braid’s tail thins starting around the nipple too, so there is definitely breakage happening around there. Look up Scarlett O’Hair, her hair is my goals but I’m pretty sure her hair isn’t as fine and thin as mine. She’s a redhead and im a natural blomd, redheads have thicker hair strands which are hardier.
>>18786763>assertion without evidence
>>18786876as a hairstylist, do you believe hairloss/mpb is diet, genetic, or stress related?
>>18787099Why would the opinion of a hairstylist matter lol. Also hair loss/mpb are 2 vastly different things.
>>18787155because they would presumebly be exposed to many different types of clients with different lifestyles that exhibit various stages of hairloss and they may have noticed a pattern.
>>18787156This stuff is already understood. There are several categories of hair loss, AGA being the most common. Lifestyle choices can accelerate any of the causes of hair loss.
>>18787158>This stuff is already understood.By who? There's conflicting information on every article or internet echochamber.
>>18787163Which form of hair loss is not understood? Be specific.
>>18787169>Be specific.nta but why don't you fuck off back to where you belong with this shit

do everything right and you'll still go bald. you're desperatly grasping at straws. when what we most need to do is reclaim a neutral hat for men who just want to wear a hat without signalling they're part of some niche subculture or walking meme.all men used to wear hats, and those were the glory days. but hairfags FUCKED us and now you're either a degenerate no hatter with your slutty fucking hair out in the open for all to see, or you wear a hat and get branded with the sociocultural implications of whatever style hat you wear.fuck this give us our hats back. civilization will collapse without a return to hats. WE CANT BREEED
Should I get a buzz cut? I'm tired of this shit.
>>18786762>then realising if you just took finasteride you wouldnt have to get a hair transplanti noticed i was balding at 18 and already had a norwood 2 by then, maybe even pushing 3 but with thick hairfin doesnt magically lower your hairlinesure i fucked up by not taking it for almost 10 years since then, but my hair loss was suprisingly slow up until recently. only now i also started thinning and dont care about the side effects as much so I plan to start taking it this week
>>18787180>>18787169No you're literally doing the meme of pretending to be retarded or to not understand the discourse. It's like you plebbit weirdos seek out any vaguely alternative conclusion to anything just to purposefully behave obtusely making any discussion beyond the given, accepted consensus impossible.
>>18787300???? What lmao. Hair loss as a symptom is well documented in the modern day. You can diagnose the cause of every form of hair loss with blood work and a scalp biopsy. Why won't you tell me which cause of hair loss is misunderstood?
Sorry, I'm back>>18787000I get these too. Its most likely just your baby hairs if you're talking about the temple area? Mine stick out a bit too because I also have wavy hair and after a shower I will use a small comb or spoolie with some light hold gel to comb them into place with the rest of my hair. You can only really do this on the temples though. So if it isn't, and by 'sides' you're referring to hair sticking through the regular hair on the side of the head, you then need to determine if its new growth or breakage.Breakage will be blunt on the end and feel coarse on the end where it snapped. New growth will be tapered and smooth feeling. If it's breakage, trim the ends then care for it carefully. If new growth just let it be and continue to care for it gently.>>18787029I am similar but with 2a hair- very fine and very fragile. Any heat used on my hair and I will immediately notice splits and breakage. Avoid it at all cost.Dry air mixed with less moisture in your hair can make it prone to being really frizzy in winter when you're wearing thick natural fibers especially. I live in braids in the winter. I would switch to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for these months and use a hair oil over night- experiment with one you use before bed that your hair will absorb over night. If it looks a little greasy when you first apply, that's okay as long as it absorbs and is gone when you wake up, if you wake up still greasy looking it's not the right oil.My hair which is pretty fine and low porosity really enjoys the hydrasource biolage line. I use the shampoo and conditioner then add some oil and leave in from the same brand and line when it is damp. After it dries I will add more hair oil before bed. I don't reccomend seasalt spray because salt will dry your hair out. We use it in the salon to clean toner bottles so imagine what that does to your hair. Its more used to create texture.(ran out of room, continuing...)
>>18787493take a photo of yourself from the back with your hair down in a shirt or dress contrasting your hair color. where you can see through your hair is where you need to cut, that is where it is thinned out from damage. If you're comfortable sharing it I can help determine where. If it looks solid still, you can follow this previous comment>>18786876buy some shears for hair and cut your splits yourself. Growing your hair is about cutting the least off possible which is why a lot of people with super long hair (and myself included as I grow it too) won't get it cut by a hairstylist. In the salon there isn't time to go through every strand individually the way you can at home- I only ask a coworker to cut the bottoms if I really trust them not to cut more than half an inch and if I can tell the ends are getting old and straggly and need it all around the same length.
>>18787158Hairstylist anon back and I agree w this comment in regard to >>18787099Hairstylists are taught about hairloss to help correct it aesthetically, but at the end of the day, It's a medical issue and I can't speak to it in terms of diagnoses or cause bc that'll be different person to person and like anon said, lifestyle will play a role. It's in the dermatological realm unless you want to stick a toupee on it lmao
>>18787029I forgot to reccomend you a brush.I personally really like framar standard detangling brushes or a wet brush pro beause I feel the 'bristles' are flexible enough to not damage anything if something gets caught. I'm iffy on boar bristles- I own one and don't use it- I've heard conflicting information on them. Some of my coworkers use them on extensions boasting theyre the most gentle, and they are good at spreading your sebum (natural hair oils) down shaft.I personally feel if they aren't immaculately clean that the density of the bristles can cause friction which can lead to damage over time. They also make my hair staticky personally unless my hair is greasy- I mostly find use for them in updos.I think the perfect brush is one that you feel detangles gently and that you find easy to clean weekly. (which is also important)
>>18787497also adding that your brush may be doing that if you're starting at your scalp.Start at the very bottom of your hair and slowly work up- almsot like you're very gently 'unlacing' any knots or bunches of hair. going from the scalp and pulling down will just rip your hair and tighten any knots.
>>18787493>Its most likely just your baby hairs if you're talking about the temple area?Yeah, temple area and nape of my neck. Cheers hairanon, will give this a try.
>>18786876What haircare products or tools (like curling irons, relaxers, brush types) are worth a premium, and which are fine if you go with the cheap/drug store option?
is there any other solution to scalp psoriasis other than ketoconazole shampoo and lowering stress? the shampoo does its job well but i'm basically forced to use it for life when i'd rather get rid of the condition entirely
i really enjoy how my hair looks right after i shower, how do i capture it? it's like a uniform messy spiky look with a bit more volume. i have 1A hair so when it dries up it returns to the normal chuddy bowl look
>>18787493>>18787494natural blond anon here, thank you so so much for replying! I’ll look into purchasing ultra moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for the winter months. Currently im using the shampoo/conditioner combo from L’Oreal Paris Ultra Shine because of the smoothing ingredients in it - I forget the exact name but is purple and smells like rosemary. I’ve used Marc Anthony coconut shampoo/con in the past but noticed (because my hair is so fine and I think it has high porosity at the scalp and low at the dry ends) my hair is absolutely wrecked by the moisturizing agents and is hella greasy. I have to shampoo every other day by doing this. I already don’t use heated products which is a pain in winter because it takes 4h to air dry my hair. Do you use a silk bonnet so your hair doesn’t make your pillowcase and face greasy? I do live in braids but since my hair is so long I’ve been experimenting with chopsticks in the hair. My hair right now has ~fairy tale~ ends so I should just lop it off and make it thick and straight instead of living my John Waterhouse watercolour painting fantasies. Sometimes I debate getting bangs but know it won’t fit my face shape (small upper and lower third with large mid third) sorry for hogging your attention but do you think curtain bangs would suit my face shape? And I will buy those recommended brushes thank you >>18787497 ! I already have a wet detangler brush and they suck, those are the ones that only smooth my hair surface level. Although they are very easy to clean and my scalp is naturally greasy so the sebum really builds up. Again, thanks so much anon!
>>18787668I think it also could have something to do with hair absorbing coconut oil the same way it does protein- my hair is very sensitive to protein and I can't use anything with coconut because it just gets extremely dry and brittle feeling from it- you might be the same! But yes it's almost certain unless your ends are freshly cut that the ends will have a different porosity level than the rest of your hair just from damage and expsosure over time to friction and heat. (usually more porous.)And I do mostly because I'm extremely neurotic about my hair! I use a silk/satin bonnet (doesnt matter which as long as its slippery) ontop of a satin pillowcase just incase my bonnet slips off/any baby hairs stick out from the band. I do find it helps keep the oil or any other product from getting to my pillow! One of the main comments I get from my clients though is that theirs always falls off and I haven't figured out a solution yet or any advice.. I really do think its one of the most important things to implement, you'll notice such an increase in your hair health from using one!And honestly it totally depends on your tastes! Some people love the fairy tale ends look.If you do, just go along the very bottoms and snip only the splits! Otherwise yes, I'd see where the thinnest spot is and cut about an inch above it. Curtain bangs are a safe option as they are typically universally flattering and easy to grow out should you decide you don't like them.If you think you need a little bit of loose strands around your face when you pull your hair up to give a more relaxed or romantic feel to your hair I think it's a great option!
>>18786876I have 3b-3c hair, what would you say is the best way to make it more malleable or softer at least, mine has been softer lately because ive taken care of it more but i would like it even softer
