In the realm of cope-tier integrated bracelet watches, these are some of the cleanest. They left off unnecessary dial text and bullshit like fake bolts on the case.
It would be nice if they had a color-matched datewheel (or, better still, a no-date option) but in this space, nothing's going to be perfect.

It just dawned on me; Tudor is actually better than Rolex.
Tudor is a master chronometer while Rolex is "superlative". What does that mean in practise? Rolex doesn't even do third party certification on them, instead they do their own testing and deem it "better".
I'm so glad I went with my BB54, after getting it, I don't even think about Rolex. In a world where Rolex screams status, Tudor whispers taste. A Rolex is the billboard of success, but Tudor? It’s the secret handshake of those who know better. You pay less, yet get a sibling forged in the same fires—Swiss precision, timeless design, and none of the "look-at-me" hysteria. A Tudor is a poet's watch; a Rolex, a salesman’s pitch. Why spend double to impress strangers when you could spend less and impress yourself?

There's a difference between the collection they say they want and the collections they actually have. This guy >>18784130 just happened to buy them. Going by back of the envelope math, assuming everything was purchased used, puts that trio at about 20 grand US. That's a lot of money to spend on watches for 99.9% of the population.

Just like here, no one owns shit. They're probably posting the same Orients and Casios.

Bittercel, the kid you can recognize from his constantly spamming the word "shitter" in all-lowercase posts that aren't replying to everyone, has spent the last couple years, since covid, at least, obsessed with some poster who owned a Reverso. That guy called out Bittercel for being a jealous little bitter incel and coined the name "Bittercel".

He basically disappeared a few weeks later, around the time traffic dropped when everyone started coming out of lockdown. Bittercel stuck around, desperately hoping to call that guy "Recelso" because that's what passes for a clever comeback.

>why the speed master though? it's an ugly watch
"ugly" is subjective. Some people like that its straightforward in its design without resorting to silly gimmicks or needlessly going upmarket. Matte black dial, white painted hands.
Now, for contrast, think of how the 1016 Explorer looked compared to today's luxo version.
In the case of the Speedmaster as well, it's also effectively unchanged since the 1960s, in terms of case dimensions. What worked in the 60s, works today.

Sure, some people jerk themselves off about the moon bullshit, but for everyone else, it's a solid sports chronograph with 60s styling at a pretty reasonable price. There's not much else out there like it. Some of the Zeniths, perhaps, but those all have that dreadful 4:30 date window.

I think in >>18784130 's example, it pairs really nicely with the flashy Yacht-Master. One is more understated, the other is sparkling platinum and high-polish.

>>
>>18784199
You mean why does everyone buy a speedmaster? It's a lot of things. The space travel story and fantasy surrounding the watch that went to the moon is compelling for a lot of people, despite how played out it is for most normal people who are kind of tired of hearing it and think Omega should give it a rest. The other thing is for such a well made chronograph with such a legend surrounding it, it was really cheap even at retail for many years and they made a lot of them so you can still get really good ones used for pretty cheap to this day. So it was really good value for a historical name brand watch that did something cool with a really popular complication, it was kind of a no brainer for someone who likes watches, it almost felt undervalued. But all the price hikes and Omega putting out 27 special releases all throughout the year has made it feel tired.

Does it seem like there are two* tiers of Rolexes?

From what it looks like, the OP, Explorer I (and maybe Explorer II) and Submariner are the lower tier. The watches basically anyone can have.
Then the GMT Master, Day Date, Daytona, and Yacht-Master constitute the upper tier.

*The Datejust appears to be its own tier that basically everyone wears.
>>
>>18784849
Kind of but not really? The daydate is basically just the gold datejust now, most datejust sizes don't have a full gold option anymore, and anything in precious metal is going to be premium obviously. Yachtmasters are expensive and nice for what they are I guess but they're ot super popular, I'd bet if you wanted one and had the money you could get an allocation without much hassle.

It's really just hype pieces versus bot hype pieces. Every OP is just the same steel watch, but particular dial colors can be really fuckin hard to get and sell for multiple times retail on the secondary market. GMT is kind of the same way, only certain colors in steel specifically with jubilee bracelet are really hard to get. The only model that's hype across the board is daytona.
>>
>>18784854
>Yachtmasters are expensive and nice for what they are I guess but they're ot super popular, I'd bet if you wanted one and had the money you could get an allocation without much hassle
Depends on the specific version. The titanium one is very difficult to get.

Part of the problem with the Yacht-Masters is that, while the're not as popular as Submariners, they also make far fewer of them per year, so they're harder to get. Same with the Sea-Dweller.
>Why is there a waiting list for this? No one wants this watch!

But >>18784849 is correct in that Rolex does have market segmentation within its own lineup, just like most companies.

OPs and Explorers are for the young professional who wants to buy his first "nice" watch. DJs, Subs and ExplorerII/GMTs are when they want to step up mid-career. Daytonas, DDs and YMs, along with the precious metal versions of the mid-tier sports watches, are for when they're wealthy.
>>
>>18784767
>>18784847
Mido are the worst choice you could make.

Either spend more or less, but that $1500 tier is the worst choice possible. Too cheap to be a good brand, too expensive to be money you can waste.
It's like Certina, failed entry luxury brands.
>>
Got a brand new Tsuki-Yomi for cheap to use as my daily beater/reliable watch when society collapses. What watch should I get next for actual fashion?
>>
>>18784867
Do you have any specific criticisms of the ocean star 39? The reaso. I'm interested in this watch in particular is because it's actually a little under 39mm, more like 38mm and change, and even with the date it's only 10.5mm thick, and I'm very specifically in the market for a watch with a timing bezel 38mm or less that's under 11mm thick. The dial is interesting, too. What other watch is better for what I'm looking for?

I've also been seriously considering buying a bathyscaph for the same reasons, but I hate the markers on the regular ones so I'd basically be waiting for a limited run with better markers and hands. It also bothers me a little, not too much, that the movement is only 3hz and doesn't hack. Seems really weird for such an expensive watch.
>>

>>18784890
>Do you have any specific criticisms of the ocean star 39?

Interesting. Can you give me a list of famous zombie brands? I'm a bit of a newfag, started visiting /wt/ only a year ago.
>>
>>18784915
Breitling was acquired but they never stopped producing watches.
>>18784914
Some people have different ideas of exactly what it means, but generally it's a brand that went out of business and later was put back into service. Sone people believe that it should exclude brands that were resurrected under certain circumstances, for example a Lange & sone went out of business but was revived by the grandchildren of the people who were running it when it died so there's still some lineage there. There are other brands like Nivada Grenchen which died and were resurrected by some random guy, but they honor the history of the original brand by producing modernized new versions of the watches they used to make when they died. There are other brands like Ball, which are literally just a zombified name and the stuff they're doing today has literally nothing to do with the company's history.

Nivada, Vulcain, Universal Geneve, (Tag) Heuer, Smiths, Blancpain, Lange & Sohne, Moser, Zodiac, Junghans..

Cristopher Wart is definitely a brand worth paying attention to. They have improved a lot in a relatively short amount of time. I wonder what comes next.

The best thing about them is, they are selling you a watch. Not a story, not prestige, not legacy, just a watch. I think that is good. We need brands like this. Brands that are prestige today used to be like this at some point.

The watchmaker to whom I take my watches for servicing (he has been working continuously since the 1960s) said all mechanical watches produced today are a scam. The movements are inferior and of lower quality than ANY of those produced between the 1950s and the 1990s, and for every thousand bucks they charge you, they’ve spent about 150 on production. Once the price goes above 1500 bucks, you are literally just paying for their marketing operations and brand name and nothing else. He also said that everyone he knows who has even an inkling of knowledge about watches buys vintage.

>>
>>18785592
>it’s not the way you thought it was going to turn out when you posted your little story about the watchmaker, but that’s life
100% not what I thought, retarded braggart

I posted what I posted with the full awareness that it would enrage ten retards and perhaps give one or two other posters something to think about. Your shitty little Rolex is losing value at the speed of light. Niggers are buying clones for a fraction of the price — and so are rich white people — and here you are, in this absolute shithole, posting AI-generated images of Rolexes that look exactly like any generic, mass-produced CAD-shitter from Tissot, Seiko or San Martin. The only thing they’re good for is that their movements are highly accurate, sure, but internally they’re just rip-offs of designs pioneered by high-end watchmakers back in the 60s. If you had even the slightest clue about the subject, if you actually knew what you were looking at when you pop open a watch case, you’d realize le Swiss maison charging you 900 euros to service your piece of crap is the biggest scam in history. Even if you’ve got the money, you’re still essentially taking a massive, juicy shlong right up your unlubricated ass.

But hey, we know how this goes: all you really want is to sit here endlessly posting photos of hideous, 42mm-cased watches that you’ll never actually own. So, once the truth has been laid out, the inevitable response is always: "poorfaggot, luxury watches are a status symbol, lmao." Keep it up, you loser.

It's neither. By design it is intended to be as close to anonymous as possible. It just works. Not super well but not super poorly either.

Sinn fans can be a little cringe-y, though, because they're the kind of autists who only care about specs and don't understand the concept of styling.

Based on Sinn's pricing, though, you might as well get a Chinese watch with identical specs.

Am I the only one here who sees Casio's glory as questionable?
Like wow, it's a cheap and effective way to tell time, cool. You know what else is cheap? Not buying a watch at all and just checking your phone. Another cheap thing is a smartwatch. It is plastic like a Casio and it also has a bunch of functions, way more in fact.
So what niche does Casio occupy now? It's mostly just slop.
>>
>>18785727
>So what niche does Casio occupy now?
if you're in an area where your phone and/or smartwatch aren't available.
for example, i go on camping trips that last several days and are in areas of bad cell service. something like a G-Shock is pretty handy.
but as a watch for wearing every day? no. they're no longer needed.
>>
>>18785727
If you ever owned a Casio you would understand.
I had casios forgotten for more than a decade (from teenage years) and still running when found. I had casios as an adult and they are just amazing when you need a beater. They're fun, they're cheap, they are reliable and they don't break easily. They scratch that it when you want a fun watch without spending an arm, bit you don't want to buy some shitty slop.
>>
>>18785731
Oh, so they're basically like funko pops, something colorful for kidults to collect?
>>

I literally do have a 15 year old Casio Marine Gear that I forgot for many years and the battery is still running. It's cool in some way, but as this guy said >>18785728 Casio's real uses are very situational now.
Also, if I want to get something cheap to scratch an itch, Aliexpress watches do that better than Casio. Those watches look and feel way closer to what you truly want, so why get a plastic Casio?

What chinese brand is producing tegimented steel watch cases and bracelets with 200m water resistance?
>>
>>18785799
You don't want Tegimented steel. Tegimented is just Sinn's name for hardening treatment, though, let's be honest, if it were that important, other brands would also do it. The problem with it is that the layer of hardened steel is very thin, only a few microns, so if you knock the watch, you'll still dent it or scuff it. Then you're left with a watch that is impossible to refinish.

Biking on cobbpestones and stuff like this is really bad for the longevity of a watch movement. Your watchmaker can definitely tell the difference between a watch that was babied and a watch that a biker rode with on bumpy roads for many years.

Are you going to kill a seiko 5 doing this? Probably not. They're designed to be abused and neglected for years. And a seiko isn't really expensive or rare enough to care much anyway.

They could do better. They could stop with the silly children themed watch design with all trhe unnecessary text all over them. They could make their design sleeker, more elegant. They could use better materials, stainless steel and sapphire. If they wanted they could dominate the luxury digital watch segment which is pretty much non existent so far. They could take the whole watches thing more seriously. But they don't have to because they make heaps of money already and they don't care.

They only good watch is the one that gets you laid. If a $5 Spongebob watch gets you pussy where a $60,000 Patek will only get you a pat on the back, the former is inherently better than the latter.

It doesn't look good on the plastic strap but on the bracelet, the lug to lug becomes 57.5mm because the first link of the bracelet is non-articulating.

And yeah the lack of complications is a bummer, but I use a timer on an almost daily basis so it's by far and away the most important feature for me.

Regardless I'll definitely be stopping by a Casio store to try it on in person before buying. At 37~42,000 yen it's nowhere near as high as I was expecting either, in terms of pricepoint.

The Casio metal fits larger wrists where the strap doesn't so 168 is better for twigs or not than 91

This is an uncommon model so I haven't seen specific pricing but it has a LOT of tubes so it'll probably be close to $1k from what I can find. Not worth it on a watch I paid about $1,300 for. It's still readable in the dark with eyes adjusted so I'm not too worried about it yet, but if it ever hits the point where the lume is useless I might just have somebody put Luminova or whatever over the tubes.

AE1200 on bracelet is the most complete digital watch for white-collar professionals

G-shock if you do a lot of manual work or sports. Go Tough Solar if you never want to worry about the battery.

the marker spam makes no sense but the watch is still kinda based

Best high quality beater watch that'll last me a lifetime but isn't as obnoxious as a g-shock and with a stock bracelet that isn't as short as the F91W since I don't have manlet wrists? Analog or digital doesn't matter
